1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying more dolls when you still have unfinished ones

Feb 3, 2013

    1. None of my dolls are finished but I already have my 5th head on the way. I want to get all the dolls home first, then start working on them.

    2. I have quite a few unfinished dolls at the moment, but I don't consider that any reason to not buy any more. My mother makes my dolls's clothes, and she does not always have time to do that. Right now she is working on a commission for someone else, she also has quilting projects to work on, and sometimes it just takes a while to find the right fabric to make an outfit work. For my dolls which still need faceups and modding work done, I'm waiting for the specific people I want to commission to do my dolls' faceups to have open slots. I would rather buy a doll, when it is released, and add it to the backlog of dolls that need clothes/faceup/eyes/wigs/shoes, than not get the doll, and have to hunt for one second hand.

    3. In general I don't like buying a new doll if I have others laying around that don't have the "basics" (eyes, wig, body, face-up). The only time I've done this is when a doll has been limited or debuted at a special price. Honestly I don't like having heads in storage while I plan for the bodies but if the doll (in some cases) is special - it will trump me completing one that's been waiting a while.

    4. All of my dolls from the past three years have been projects which are not completed.... someday

    5. I'm struggling with this right now. My latest girl is what I consider unfinished (for me, that means she doesn't have her forever wig/eyes, aesthetic work complete, and a full outfit including shoes), and I'm constantly being tempted by new dolls. The secondhand market (both here and other groups) are killing me. There have been a few decent deals popping up lately, and it's taken all I can do not to start chunking cash at sellers...

It does help that I have a list organized of dolls I feel like I absolutely love the most, and I'm trying not to stray from them. Now, if one of my wishlist dolls pops up for a good deal, we may have problems. Luckily, my taste in dolls seems to be unusual.

I feel like if I buy a new doll while an unfinished one is sitting at home, it'll never be completed.

    6. Hmm...I guess you can say I do that, though, none of my dolls I've brought home we're blank slates(sans face-ups), but my dolls have to wait for new clothes in the mail and that takes a couple of weeks to arrive. In the meantime, they tend to stay dressed in extra outfits I've already got, as well as wigs. So, I guess none are ever naked or wigless...Oh, dear, I think I may sound confusing. I hope it makes sense, though. :sweat

    7. Only one of my 16 dolls here is finished, many do not have face ups or have very old face ups that need redoing and the 17th will soon arrive.
Hardly anyone has clothes and since I have decided to make all of my own alpaca and mohair wigs only three have their wigs. The irony is that I spend a lot of time putting together beautifully finished full sets for other people. The way I see it is there is never a moment of boredom with so much scope for creativity just waiting to get stuck into.
I have actually decided that this is irksome and am self imposing a strict no buying policy next year to try and consume less and create more now rather than in some whimsical non existent time frame!t does sometimes seem if you are really feeling the dolls you have are the right ones for you that they actually can become and grow as characters regardless of where you are up to with working on them. The other thing is that sometimes the ideas for them change many times before they ever do get a stitch to wear etc, its one of the plus sides I suppose.

    8. Untill now.. I have 8 incoming dolls while i have 12 at home... Sold 8 another, and still planning to get another one

      And i think i can't stop buying :(

    9. Yeeeeeeah I'm guilty of this. My poor Digit has no faceup still and her wig got poached by Julien since it was too big for her lol. Everyone else is pretty well complete, though they want more clothes just mix things up occasionally.

    10. I have a doll on order and another on layaway. The thought of them both arriving around the same time, blank and without their own clothes is kind of daunting... But mostly I'm sooooo excited :dance

    11. I have buy some bjd i have project style for each of them. But i will do it step by step .
