It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying secondhand: Boxes and certificates...are they must haves for you?

Dec 30, 2012

    1. I don't think I'd mind. If it was a sculpt I genuinely wanted, I would just take it home, box and paperless all! I tend to make impulse decisions and regret them later though, so I couldn't recommend it my way. XD

    2. I would definitely want the papers, but I would be particular on the box depending on the company. For example, if it was a plain box, then no, I wouldn't care for it, but if it was a unique box, with the doll's picture on it, then yes, it would be nice to have.
It would also depend on the doll. For example, if it was a doll that's commonly recasted, then I wouldn't consider it unless it had it's papers.

    3. If it shipped safely, I wouldn't be concerned about the original box/certificate, but with the amount of recasting going on, I guess it's a must. :(

    4. Depends on how well I know the seller when it comes to certificates, as I very much do not want to buy a recast passed off legit. Boxes I don't care about, though. In fact, I already have a closet full of doll boxes XD

    5. Not necessarily important unless it's a sculpt known to be recasted. Then it's a must. However, I like to have them because I'm a collector.

    6. I don't save boxes but I save certificates. If I will chose between doll with original box and certificate and doll without this I'll chose the first one. Unfortunately box and certificate also can't guarantee the authenyicity of the doll, but it is safer

    7. I haven't bought very many dolls (only 2, actually), so I've never really had a proper opinion for the boxes or COAs. I suppose it's good to have them for the reason to prove to the original company that I have their product and need a replacement part, but for me my hobby is more of a personal collection rather than something I'm looking to sell later. I get a sculpt because that's the sculpt I want for a character, and most likely won't be selling it once I have them.

Besides...I'm always on the FB sales groups looking for cheap unwanted heads to practice face-ups on, and I think I've only gotten a COA ONCE with a head....so I guess that's why I don't really find it that important.

    8. I think that's not important.
I have 29 dolls and you'd imagine It's pretty difficult to keep all of the boxes. They would crowd half of the apartment.
I think I'm not the only one living in a small apartment with so many dolls, so I understand if a seller doesn't have a box or certificate. And I'm ok to purchase.
I still keep certificates to all of my dolls however, just in case)))

    9. The box isn't really a must-have for me, as it doesn't matter much and would only take up space in my room anyway, but it would be nice. Certificates on the other hand I think I care a lot more about and would want, I'm not entirely sure if it would be a deal breaker though, but it would probably mean I'll have to mull over the purchase more.

    10. Neither the box nor the certificate missing would deter me from purchasing a doll. That said, I'm looking for my first doll, so not thinking in terms of resale just yet. My feelings on this could change years down the road. :)

    11. I never minded if a doll had the box or papers before, but because the issue of recasts is more widespread now there are certain dolls I am wary about purchasing without them unless I am familiar with that doll or can trace to it's origins (eg. box opening thread, has default company face-up etc).

    12. Not having the box wouldn't bother me (especially since space is now an issue!) but certificates are a must. I keep them for all the dolls that came with them, especially if I need to sell them in the future. It gives future buyers peace of mind.

    13. With the increase of recasts out there I think the certificate is a must. The more proof you have the better. Last year I thought a recast head was legit because the seller had the company box in the pictures... apparently the seller did own the authentic doll and was taking pics of the recast heads next to the box and selling them to clueless people. Finding these kind of people is pretty sad... and it shows that there's no such thing as "too careful" when it comes to second-hand deals.

    14. All it's very important to me because it's part of the doll.
I'll hope receive the full packet when I buy a second-hand doll c:

    15. I can live without the box, but definitely prefer the original box. Certificates are a must-have though.

    16. I love getting the doll in their original box and the certificate of authenticity but I seem to end up buying the doll, body, or head without either box or papers..it just all depends on how much I want the doll..
.now when its advertised and it is seen in the posted pics that the doll comes in original box but the seller takes it upon them selves to ship it in a smaller box witout asking you first so you can pay the extra unexpected shipping that the seller miscalculated..that makes me mad..its not fair..and supposidly the original box was thrown away at the post office ...you should always get whats advertised..right?
man I really wanted the original box that time.

    17. It depends on the company. There are some where people scream "It's a counterfeit!" at you if you don't have the papers for it and that gets extremely annoying real fast so for those I insist on documentation. With others I'm more relaxed about it since there are less obnoxious people in the fandom for that particular company.

I do however want the metal head back plate that's attached no matter where a doll come from if it has it. I know they fall off but at least put it in a little baggie.

    18. I wouldn't mind, it's just a paper anyway. However, I kept mine and included together with the dolls that I sold later; I thought, the next owners might want to have the certificates!

    19. I don't care about papers, but the original box for my 60cm Obitsu was a pleasant surprise!

    20. Recasts are really such an issue now? I've been away from this hobby for years and have only recently gotten back into it. I've never cared about boxes and it's just very impractical to keep them. As for papers, I guess it depends on the reputation of the seller and just how common these recasts are. They weren't common at all back when I was collecting. What dolls are commonly recast?
