Buying secondhand: Boxes and certificates...are they must haves for you?

Dec 30, 2012

    1. I would prefer the everything is intake. Due to all the recast dramas, I think with the certificates, boxes and all could at least more convincing than only the doll it self.

    2. i dont care so much about the box, but when i do buy second hand i have to have the certificate.
so i know it's the real deal and not a fake, and i also i like to display the certificates with the little cards and photos
the companies send you when you buy from them:)

    3. I don't mind about boxes, but for such a big-ticket purchase I would much, much rather buy a doll with some kind of certificate or papers. There are a lot of shady people around and it makes me more comfortable to have a guarantee of an item's authenticity

    4. I care a litttle bit about the boxes, if they are not original is not going to be a tragedy but I would prefer to have the original box too. Anyway when I do buy second hand "a must have" for me is the certificate to know that wich I am buying it's real and not a fake, and also I like when the seller send me the certificates with the little cards and photos that the companies send when you buy items.

    5. Nah. They are not must haves for me, I always throw them away but I'll keep them from now on (if I ever buy another BJD) because the last time I sold a BJD, the buyer was asking for the box and the certificate, luckily, I had the box but no certificate ~_~

    6. The box is fine to have without because I can understand it would take up a lot of space. A certificate, or whatever documents came with the doll would be much appreciated. Actually, I would prefer it assuming the company is known for giving those papers. Last I checked DOD doesn't give any when they ship a doll.

    7. I don't need the box, but the paperwork is important to me. Some dolls don't even come with paperwork and that is ok, but if they do I would like to have it.

    8. the only doll ive ever had a real certificate for was a lati yellow doll i bought second hand.

Other than than. When ive ordered through volks. They sent a flimsy piece of paper with her sculpt on it, but official paper saying when it was ordered or anything with a stamp.

So i dont really care about paperwork, but if im buying a msd+ sized doll i want them to be in a box, even if its a different doll box.

Tinies i dont care if they are just packaged really really well in a shipping box

    9. I'd prefer both but it's no big issue if the doll I bought arrived with neither. Or at least with either the box or coa.
And like someone else that posted before me I have the issue of not having a coa for a body. I don't know if it's normal with Popo doll to not include papers when only buying the body... Maybe it's the same when getting the whole doll. :-/

    10. Both would be nice but not having the box would be fine with me. It's the paperwork that's more important for me.

    11. It kind of depends on the price, if I'm buying a doll secondhand that costs more then $800 or $300+ for a head, I think that it'd be good to have papers. I've seen too many recasts sell as legit, and I wouldn't want to be ripped off, especially if it's an insanely limited doll.
As for in general, I don't care. as SuniMoon said before, some companies don't have them. Not to forget there are times those little pieces of paper get lost or accidently thrown out. Not to talk down to any one who does, but I don't think a majority of people hang their doll's certificate on their wall as proof of ownership. Also there are plenty of people who don't keep the giant boxes that their dolls come in. So, I don't think that their necessary, but they are nice to have

    12. I'd definitely prefer having a certificate, just to be sure. I'm still a bloody beginner with anything doll-related, so I'm being extra careful :blush If I ever were to re-sell a doll, I guess it would be harder without the certificate, so ... yeah, I'd definitely like to get the certificate with the doll. Then again, if I found a must-have doll second hand from a trustworthy seller without a certificate, I'd probably buy them anyway.
Boxes don't matter to me at all, as long as the doll is packed safely I don't care what they're being shipped in. If there was an option of shipping them unstrung, I'd definitely go for that to save on both storage space and shipping. :)

    13. Boxes - nope, especially with big dolls. I have a very small flat and am running out of space, so not having the original box would actually be a plus (unless it's really small, say Pukifee or Pukipuki). I also don't have certificates for all dolls, since I bought some second-hand and they came without. Even my unstrung Unidoll came withouth a certificate and that one, I bought directly from Unidoll back when they were still in business.

    14. Obviously not all companies produce certificates, and sometimes if the doll is being split the certificate might go out with a different part, but when I know that there was one originally and I'm purchasing a whole doll, I do prefer to have that included in the sale.

I like being able to receive the original box as well, but I appreciate that for many people space is a major issue, so I don't consider it worrying if that's not a possibility. It's just one of those things where, all other things being equal, I'd go for the one with the box.

    15. It's not bothering me if i can't have the original box, since most of the time it's badly damaged (thanks to the care of the post office). But i appreciate to have doll's papers when it's available with the company. That proves me the origin of the doll.

    16. Honestly yes, I really want those kinds of things, so when I have been interested in MP dolls, I always asked first.

    17. Id'd be more inclined to purchase a doll with it's box; i could care less about some lousy papers. I like having a place to put them should they need to be stored, when it all comes down to it. It's why I keep all the boxes for my figurines and video games. When you buy a video game, you don't throw the container it came in out. I know they're different, but it's the best way I can think of to explain this right now. Hahahah.

    18. I've bought 3 Kid Delf dolls in the last 2 years directly from Luts, and the only "paperwork" was a guide for stringing. No certificate. I do keep the stringing guides with the dolls in case I sell them, because that would be useful for the new owner.

    19. No, I don't really care either way. When I have a doll that does come with a certificate, I always keep them. If I were to sell a doll and had it's certificate, I would of course send it on to the new owner.

    20. Na not at all, in fact the less the better. It will only become clutter or get thrown away anyway.
