It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Buying Things For A Doll You Don't Have.

Jun 24, 2011

    1. Haha yeah definitely , had those moments. Same, with my friends telling me "No!!! Don't!!" ..
I haven't bought the doll, but I really wanted to, and already prepared items for her.. kinda like, preparing first.. xD well no harm done~

    2. I'm not big on buying (if I'm saving for a doll pretty much everything goes towards buying the doll) but I like to make little things. I made Fior a sock hat three whole YEARS before I got her!

    3. Well, I don't have all the characters of my story yet, but sometimes I buy smth for "just in case". Because I cannot predict when I'll buy the doll, but I don't want to waste time on waiting some necessary things before I could start taking photos...

    4. I usually buy clothing after I have made a decision and ordered a doll. :) But sometime I also got wrong size, wrong style which I have to alter them myself or sell them off again. Now I'm really careful about buying them before they arrive, unless I know their after-face-up-look and right size for body which I get help from people in DOA :aheartbea

    5. Most of my problems come with buying general supplies- fabric, wigs, hair for wigs, whatever happens to be sitting on the shelf at Michael's that I totally super duper need but don't actually know what I'd use it for. It's even worse with art supplies, so now I have a rule that I can't buy things unless I know what they're for.

    6. I usually want to buy many things for dolls I don't have yet, but nowadays I try to avoid actually buying them. Earlier I have bought something, like eyes and wigs, so I already have them when the doll comes. For example I have eyes and two wigs for one SD girl I'm buying... sometimes.

Nowadays I try to avoid buying things before I have at least ordered the doll because my mind can change, and then the items I have bought don't fit anymore.. For example, that SD girl I'm buying. I bought her one wig, then decided she's going to have different hair color and bought new wig. Then I bought eyes for her, but then I changed my mind about what doll I want. And the doll I want now has smaller eyes than the doll I wanted before, so I probably can't use the eyes I have. Now I have decided that I won't buy anything for her before I have really ordered the doll. When I have ordered and paid my doll then I can buy all the accessories I want! ^^

As for clothes, I buy them really rarely. I like to do them myself. It's sometimes difficult to make clothes before I have the doll in my hands but if some of my friends happen to have a doll which is same size than the doll I'm getting, I can borrow that doll and make cloth(es) for my doll. Or sometimes I can make some loose shirt or something so my doll have something to wear when she/he arrives :)

    7. I love plotting out my future doll's items! I can't stand getting the doll in the mail finally after 8 months (Lati ~.~) and not having any of their wardrobe, hair, eyes, etc prepared for them. They just feel incomplete and it's tough to bond unless I've prepared beforehand.

    8. Personally I want to do this a lot... especially if there is a sculpt I like for a character, and then I see a wig or eyes etc that work perfectly, it's very frustrating! But on the other hand I bought some little doll house mugs a while before I finally got a dolls house for my birthday XD I think because I had something for one, it stopped me getting distracted or not having interest in doll houses for months or years before the interest came back... since there are some sculpts I really want, there's a temptation to get a small thing for a character and tell myself "You have to get that character because you have this", which is important since I want a certain group of 7 of my charcters... and so far only have 1 of them XD but about 4 sculpts i like for the others

    9. I think it's just wise to plan a bit ahead. ;) If you see something that you know you will have use for later or if you for some reason won't you can sell it easily, why not buy it?

    10. I would never allow a doll to come home and 'sit around nekkid' waiting for it'a 'look'... Iplehouse had a good sale... I bought an outfit a couple of days ago (and shoes), for a doll I haven't ordered yet lol.... And he is a "full-set", but I will be ordering him this week though ;p later I will be buying some semi limited outfits for dolls I have no idea when I'll be able to get lol.

    11. I tend to buy stuff for the dolls on my wish list. That way when I finally get the doll they have clothes and accessories.

    12. I don't have my first doll yet, but I know I want a 1/3 size for sure so I have started buying things I don't know how to make (1 wig/1 pair of shoes as of right now) and also grabbing any fabric I think might make her interesting clothes.

    13. I'm not superstitious, so I don't think it can be bad in any case. I bought some clothes while waiting for my first doll. That even gave me the feeling that the things were going on. I looked for clothes and items, I ordered, then one by one all the parcels arrived - it was more like a miracle.

    14. I don't think there's anything wrong with it! I pretty much spent the year before I got my first doll obsessing over what may look good with an SD sized doll and bought mini plushies and everything :XD:. I was super glad I did though, I was super prepared for her arrival. I don't know why your friends would say such a thing but I do also agree that it's sort of like giving yourself a reinforcement to buy the doll that you already intend to buy. As long as you're buying the doll, then there's no problem. :)

    15. the only danger of buying in a 'general' size is you can have 20 1/3 sized dolls and everyone of them can be a totally different size and unable to wear what the others wear... you should at least know which particular doll you want...

example: if you decided on an Iplehouse 1/3 you could be out a ton of money if you didn't buy 'from' Iplehouse... their dolls are ones that can be hard to fit and only die-hards can point out where to find NON company stuff that would fit them...

and shoes are the worst... so be careful about what you spend if money is tight. you don't want a bunch of things your doll can't wear laying around.

    16. I must admit I ordered wigs and clothes before buying even my first doll. I had been researching and looking at things for weeks for hours every day! I noticed that many things sell out fast and it can be hard getting everything you want from a store in one go...
At that time, I already know what kind of dolls I wanted, what kind of clothing style they would wear and such so I just picked whatever I liked in their size.
I think it's nice that when you get a new doll you can right away dress them and put a nice wig on and all that, opposed to having them naked >_<
Especially looking at how long it can take to recieve your orders! I don't want my dolls to be naked and bare for months!

Since I want more than 1 SD boy, if something doesn't fit one of them, it might fit the other... and you never really know what fits anyways (I did however read through threads that helped on finding clothes that fitted my target bodies!)...also the second hand market is so active that selling the clothes is always an option, if they really do not at all fit........

    17. No way - I can't afford to buy a bunch of stuff my doll can't wear. Sometimes measurements are off or the doll company doesn't post enough of the dolls measurements. I tend to like dolls with funky measurements.

Or worse - what if I change my mind or something bad happens and I can't get the doll? Then I've got a ton of clothes for this dolly that will never exist in my collection.

    18. I am a newbie to the hobby, but once I ordered my first doll I wanted to have a wig and clothes on hand for her when she arrived. I might not have bought anything before I placed the order, but it's your call.

    19. I think it's totally fine to buy things for a doll you don't have yet (with moderation). It's super easy to get caught up in all the cute items available only to be surprised when the doll does show up, your concept changed or the items just don't suit the doll or they just don't fit size wise for whatever reason. In general I always like to have at least something basic they can wear + eyes, wig until I actually figure out what looks best. No harm in buying a simple shirt/hoodie & pair of pants/leggings/skirt….

EDIT: And I am referring to situations where people have already ordered the doll…not situations where the doll is still wish list or yet to be purchased.

    20. I ordered a wig for a doll I have no idea when I'm going to get, but I know I want it -- and the wig was not only perfect, but limited. I have several little odds and ends packed away like that for future dolls. I certainly don't see anything wrong with it, unless you're making yourself broke doing it.
