1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying Things For A Doll You Don't Have.

Jun 24, 2011

    1. I think it's a great idea to order stuff beforehand, as long as you know what doll (male or female?) and what size you are getting. You should probably have a good idea what style you are going for also. Right now, I am waiting for a doll I purchased here on the marketplace and also waiting on a wig, shoes and outfit. There is always a possibility that when you receive a doll she/he can give you an entirely different "feeling" so what you ordered may be all wrong. I think though, for the most part, we all will have more then one doll so the items will get used!

    2. I personally wouldn't buy clothes or anything else for a doll that I don't have yet...While there's nothing wrong buying those first before the doll itself, I'm just concerned about the fit...So I usually wait until I have the doll on order, then I go and shop for the clothes. Sometimes I wait until the doll arrived, just so I know their real size measurements. Coz really...buying something that won't fit isn't fun, especially with pricey shipping and all...

    3. For a dollmore Trinity i don't have... on dress and cloak  that's all that's in there.... what am i getting myself into.. fyi i have not ordered her yet even... not sure when I will even ><

    4. If I have a specific doll planned and see something I want for them, even if the doll hasn't been ordered yet, I will buy it.
I especially do this for items on sale or second hand items that may not be available later.

Usually after I've ordered a doll, I start buying clothes, eyes, and wig while I'm waiting, so everything will be ready once I do the faceup.

    5. I have about ten virtual shopping trolleys FILLED with things for my doll...who hasn't even been finished or shipped yet  I think it's good to look at clothes and wigs and eyes, regardless of whether you actually have the doll you're looking at these things for or not!

    6. After I've ordered a doll, I start looking for clothes, eyes, and wig. But I buy only clothes (if I sure they will fit). Eyes and wig l choose after doll arrives.

    7. I dont have a doll yet but its i am ordering hopefully soonish, I already bought some cheap shoes to modify and some eyes for a different doll I plan on getting after the first one x'D

    8. Normally I wait until the doll has arrived before I buy anything for it, but I just recently purchased a whole outfit for a doll that won't ship for another couple months. I am pretty sure of the fit from advice here, and I felt I needed to get the outfit in case it sold out before the doll came as it is perfect for his character.

    9. I'm already starting to make clothing for a doll i dont have so i think its just fine

    10. I don't see anything wrong with it. My husband was initially the same way, reminding me that the doll hadn't even arrived yet and here I was buying stuff for her. He doesn't mention it much anymore, possibly because I have dolls present, or possibly because he knows that I research the hell out of everything before I do it. :XD:

    11. Yes I do own items intended for a doll I don't own yet. There are certain items I just have to snap up if they are perfect for a doll I intend to purchase later on. This is especially true if I come across items that are a specific style that aren't easy to come by and i'm worried that if I miss the opportunity and those items sell and none become available again i'll be annoyed with myself that I didn't get them when I had the opportunity. It also gives me an extra incentive to make sure I do in fact get said doll in the future.

    12. I have been debating if I should do it for a doll I want actually. I don't find anything wrong with it, in a way it's like a 'promise' to yourself that you're going to get that doll eventually.
(I did it for a game, promising myself I'd eventually get the system for it, and it compelled me to save more diligently actually. So in the end it could also be a positive thing, I think, if it inspires/is an incentive for you, to get the doll you want to put it on. :) )

    13. THE PROMISE this is me! I got my hands on a 'limited' outfit for a dollmore Trinity... the largest doll I own is 75cm and boys! lol so ya unless i find a very tall 3-4 year old the outfit is pointless... This was my way of 'committing to buy the doll' XD

    14. Right after I put in my order for my doll I started to craft things for her. I don't see how getting ahead of it could be a bad thing. If you really are serious about having a doll there is no reason to not pick up what you want when you see it as it might not be available to you in the future.

    15. I've bought a wig and outfit for my pending MK Cris (who might not be here until early July). I did the same for Alex (my Ringdoll Sol), when I was waiting for him. I like to be prepared, so they don't have to sit around naked or remain in their box, when they arrive.

As for buying for a doll that I've not even bought, or made a payment on, I've not had one yet. I'm looking into buying a Dollshe Saint, maybe in a few months, but I'm holding off looking for bits for him. I need to know it's an assured purchase, before I put more money into it for a first outfit. I have a habit of cancelling big purchases, when I begin to doubt them, or changing my mind; I once ended up with eyes & boots for a MSD that never came (because I cancelled the order to get Alex instead).

    16. I am really against doing this -- the money spent on items could go towards the doll. Buying clothes for dolls I haven't ordered yet just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

So of course I did it last week.

To be fair, I kind of am hoping another doll I own will be able to wear the suit (but I really bought it for the one I didn't own)....also, I bought the head later that day. But I only bought the head because I got really lucky and found it for sale. And i have no idea what body I'll get for him. And I had literally only started thinking of making that character into a doll that morning. This hobby lol
At least I made it nine years before I bought clothes before dolls!

    17. I did this before my Mystic Kids QingCen arrived, got him a wig, eyes, and jewelry (in fact I bought a lot of these things before I even picked a sculpt for the character I had in mind). And I'm really glad that I did, because even though he's still blank and has no clothes, it's much easier to visualize him as the character when he has some of those accouterments on him.

    18. Back when I first found out about the hobby and decided to get a doll I bought lots of clothes which were all SD girls clothes...and I ended up buying a MSD boy :sweat so I ended up selling the lot I had bought, so now I'm a little cautious about buying things for dolls I haven't at least ordered. But I see no harm in buying some clothes in advance if you know what doll it will be for and and planning to buy them. I've bought some clothes for the next doll I am planning to get but I'm hesitant to buy his wig and eyes in case something happens and I end up not being about to get him.

    19. I'm super into miniatures so sometimes the clothes themselves are enough to make me happy, even with no doll to put them on :sweat That being said, I don't let myself actually purchase anything over $10 for dolls that I don't already own/have ordered....if something's super cute and cheap I generally want to go for it though! What if it disappeared forever and I couldn't find it again once I DID have a doll it would be perfect for :o ?!! For the most part though I keep everything I want but don't have a use for in etsy/ebay/etc wishlists and hope that it'll still be available later on.

    20. Yes, I always do this. ^^; I have a doll on my wishlist, and I know it might take a year or two to get them. But then I order something for my other dolls, and to save shipping or waiting time or something else ridiculous, I end up ordering a wig or eyes for them. Just yesterday I bought a perfect fabric to make clothes for the doll that's third on my wishlist...
