1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying Things For A Doll You Don't Have.

Jun 24, 2011

    1. I think it's totally fine to do this. It is not common everywhere and most of the time we have to order with super long waiting periods. Sounds kind of nice to be able to buy and take something home right away (Especially after I've had the experience of getting the doll first and starting with absolutely nothing to put them in!) XD I've also noticed that the value for bjds and their accessories seem to hold pretty well when they're well taken care of so it wouldn't be too difficult to post it here or on ebay if you had a change of heart. I would buy it :)

    2. I think it's completely normal to want to pick up some things for dolls you are awaiting, or even dolls you haven't bought yet. So what if you change your mind? You can always resell the items. I would probably just not go out and purchase the whole outfit, wig, shoes, eyes, everything before at least ordering the doll first. But I can understand wanting to buy a limited outfit or wig for a doll that you have just been toying with the idea of getting.

    3. I've done that. I've bought fabric and planned outfits for dolls I don't have yet. I've also gone and purchased various "future" materials, such as eyes and wigs, ahead of time. I currently have a floating head that may not be a complete doll for another couple of months, but she has a designated wig and pair of eyes. I even got my own can of spray sealant before my first doll arrived. No harm done in purchasing something for an anticipated doll, especially with resale being so easy in this hobby. If it turns out you don't want it, someone else will.

    4. I fell in love with 3 dresses (I couldn't catch the 4th on sale lol) And I will frame them for on the wall as art since I have no idea when I will be able to get the appropriately sized doll for them ><. Not even sure what doll it would be since technically the ones they were made for can't be bought now -_-
But I always buy at least one set of stuff for my doll before they arrive. I can't stand the idea of a doll nekkid and bald for who knows how long. ;p

    5. LOL. I do this all the time! Long before I purchased my Kaye Wiggs Layla I had a complete wardrobe for her and several custom wigs. Now I am doing the same thing in the forever hopeful desire of obtaining a resin Enchanted Doll. That most likely will never happen but I can dream about that day. The things I buy and make for that most elusive of grail dolls makes her seem more reachable and lessens the sadness I feel when I realize I probably will never have one.

    6. I'm highly considering doing this but mostly because there are some limited clothing items that I want for a doll I'm planning to get. I haven't ordered her yet and I'm afraid that when I do finally get her those things will be sold out. I do understand why you wouldn't buy things first though because you might change your mind. That's what keeps me from buying tons of clothes that I just think *might* work out some day. That and not having enough money  .

    7. lmao this is exactly what I will be doing soon ;p But it's Iplehouse stuff for future planned IH dolls. I am also worried that a couple of outfits with definitely be gone by the time I get around to that particular doll... or rather dolls. They are outfits for a particular theme... there is one I will likely never get because it came out way before I knew about IH. >< So if it's for a doll you know for certain you will have .... I say definitely BUY NOW it may not be there later ;p.

On the practical side... when I do get the dolls.... they will have at least one outfit ready and waiting ^^. Wigs and eyes are next in importance.... they can go barefoot at home lol.

    8. I've done this. I have two outfits, underwear, a 7-8 wig cap, eye putty, one pair of eyes and two wigs ready to greet my girl when she comes home. All I need now is a basic toothbrush for styling and I'm all set. (I've discovered these are stupidly hard to find. /flipdesk)

    9. Yes I have done this. I got to thrift stores and find thing that will fit my dolls and future dolls. I have also purchased wigs because I want a certain looks to my wish list dolls and I am afraid things will sell out.

    10. I've been trying not to do this so I don't cut into actual doll savings, but I have looked at LE wigs and thought "I NEED this, it will be gone soon" or saw something on sale in the marketplace and again, "I need this."
I'm making it a rule for myself to not buy things until the doll is already ordered. I still have to buy eyes for my unfinished doll right now, why am I looking at dresses in a size she can't even wear? D:

    11. I am very guilty of buying things not only for dolls I don't have, but clothes in entirely different sizes in hope I will own that size someday.

    12. I've bought things for my doll even though he's not here yet, and even though I already ordered those things when I ordered the doll! :sweat
But I think I'd only buy things for a doll I don't have if the doll has either already been ordered or if I was pretty certain that I'll be getting the doll. Of course I'll probably end up buying little things here or there that don't belong to any doll, just in case ;)

    13. I think it's a great idea to get clothes before you get the doll!
That way they don't have to sit around naked when you first get them and have a variety of clothes right off the bat. :3
It's also a good idea to get things in general if they don't come with a wig or you want really particular eyes.
Do a lot of research though or you end up with the wrong wig size like I did. xD

    14. I actually like to plan out everything for a doll, before actually buying it! That way, when the doll arrives, he/ she will already have clothing to wear, and a full head of hair :XD:

    15. I have four dolls on the way, and I definitely don't want to have them lying around naked! One doll, I've got everything for him already except a wig (turns out their heads were smaller than expected).

But the others, I don't have anything yet! I'm going to have to kick it into high gear to get them all ready.

I believe that if you plan on buying that doll for sure, then go crazy and get all that stuff you want. :) no harm done, if you don't get them, resell the stuff or put it on a different doll.

    16. I only buy stuff for dolls I've already ordered.

    17. Heh. That wig I mentioned, that I bought for my Bibiane more than 1.5 years ago? She came home this week and point-blank rejected it ... along with most others I had, deciding instead on a completely different style. That's what I get ...

My Stella, on the other hand, refuses to surrender the wig I bought for her under similar circumstances, and will thwart my every attempt to change it to a mohair one. It's like she was saying "nope, this is my wig, this has always been and will always be my wig, and you better deal with it, human." *_*

    18. I had originally said that I wouldn't buy things for one I hadn't ordered yet, but yesterday I found myself looking for wigs/eyes for the next doll I'm planning to get. *guilty* I guess technically they could fit my doll that's on order, and I did originally start looking to explore other color pallets for her....but realistically it's more for the new one. I guess I'll get the research out of the way now, so I can focus on my 1st when she arrives, and then buy the second later on. Wouldn't be fair to my first otherwise, right?

    19. I think of it as having a new dollie "shower". You have showers when expecting a new baby. You also prepare for new pets so why not for your dolls. Sometimes those OOAK outfits just scream "take me home" at you.

    20. I ordered an outfit with boots the same time I put my order in for my doll. She was coming naked anyway and needed clothes. I'm grateful I ordered the outfit and boots cus now the boots are SOLD OUT!!! I love shopping for clothes. It's a good way to give your dolls a new personality anyway. Now that I have my doll.....THERE'S NO STOPPING ME NOW!!!! LOL!!!
