Buying your second BJD

May 4, 2009

    1. Because these dolls are so expensive it is important that you really do want that second doll before you buy. Not long after purchasing my first doll I wanted a second doll to complement the first. I usually purchase dolls in pairs so this was no surprise to me and hopefully this means I will not be tempted to purchase a third!

    2. Well the first doll i bought wasn't even the first one i decided i wanted, so i'll be getting a second the moment i have the money for it. Hopefully after chirstmas, fingers crossed.

    3. My first one isnt here yet and already I feel the need to bring him home a special friend XD God I feel like collecting these dolls turns into a serious addiction that no amount of rehab can save me from. I dont think Ill love Gale any less when I am able to get a new doll. I think I will always find him special but it will really be more fun to have more complex photoshoots and photostories. My room mate is getting one the same time as me so I will be able to get a better feel for it dor sure with her boy around. :)

    4. I just got my second doll last month. Which is about 2-3 years after my first. I decided it was time to buy another doll when I found Bobobie's Apollo! I totally fell in love with him. I really wanted a 1/3 doll (my first is 1/6), so I was just waiting until I found one I really liked. I don't regret the purchase of my second, I still give my first the same amount of love and attention he got before. X3

      I'm already planning for a third. XD;;

    5. I decided I wanted to buy the second one before I even bought the first, though I figured it'd probably take me a month or two to get around to pushing the buy button.

    6. I already knew right from the start I wanted more than one, so it was just a question of finding the next must-have doll and saving. Actually, I decided on a Yeon Ho, but along came Soom with their uber-cute Yrie that I had to have. So I had to push back YH in favor of a limited.

    7. Hmmm... I have "planned" it already but you'll never know. X3 I'll pamper Miyoubi when she gets here then I will buy Rhizome and then rest~

    8. I bought my second BJDs (I bought two at once) about six months after getting my first - as soon as I had enough money. I didn't feel bad for my first doll at all, especially because the second doll was my dream doll, and the doll that catapulted me into this hobby to begin with. If anything, I love the second doll more because of this. |D

    9. I knew almost from beginning on that I'd like to have a girl and a boy. So there was no long thinking about it and no guilty conscience.

When I started collecting them I bought 3 dolls in one year. Since that I usually deliberate much longer before I order a doll.

    10. It took me more than a year to order my second, but that's because there was something major going on in my life at that point.
After I got my second, I couldn't help thinking about buying a third...and a fourth...! If I could afford it, I might end up buying a doll twice a year, but I really shouldn't... Plus, there're a lot of things I need/want to make/buy for my two dolls right now...

    11. I wanted a second one the moment I saw my little one's face.
      Now I do ^^I swore I wouldn't get a thrid yet,,and I have -_-
Invoice for my third doll has come through,(my first Puki :whee:) and I've never regretted having any of them =)

    12. I bought my second BJD just a few days after my first arrived! I really liked my PukiFee so I bought a Lati Yellow...same size but a different doll!

    13. I have both my first and second doll on the way to me right now. I just had the opportunity to buy them both at this point, so I did. As simple as that. One might get more attention than the other, but that's what tends to happen with Soom monthly dolls :p (I'm getting a Soom Ai and a CH Hani). I don't think it'll be much of an issue though.

    14. The more-or-less concise answer: well, my second BJD was a matter of chance I suppose. I just happened to have the money and find a head mold I always liked - but never really put "officially" in my wishlist, since I thought it'd be rather difficult to ever come across one for sale. It's been 8 months after I bought my first; also, when I got my first boy I told myself I wouldn't be buying another until I'd customized him in a way I was completely satisfied with (because of my lack of determination; see below). And, well, I haven't been totally truthful to my word, since my boy is currently headless (his head is away for a face-up commission) and so, I can't really say I'm "finished" with him, but I felt I couldn't say no to my second boy... head.

My explanation/justification: one of my worst defects is my lack of determination. I can make up long-term plans, carefully lay them out, begin taking detailed notes in my organizer and then... five minutes later, I call it quits. Well, it was more or less like that with my soon-to-come second doll - or second doll head, at least: new year, new doll I told myself :), so I made a wishlist with three BJDs I really liked and began estimating costs, how long it'd take me to save, when I'd order them, etc... And then, I happened to check the marketplace and saw there was a Zaoll Luv head for sale. My month-long planning became a 10-minute contingency plan, to make sure I had the money on hand before I wrote the seller a PM telling I was interested. Hopefully my second doll... or head... will be arriving in a week time - and then I'll have to begin laying out plans I won't follow in the end I suppose, since my second BJD will be in dire need of a body.

    15. Ug... They're really expensive. And this is why I only wanted one doll. I figured if I only have one, I can spoil her rotten! But.. I kind of want a Tiny...or a twin. Or both! Maybe after I complete my first doll, I'll seriously consider getting a second. :) It'd be fun not waiting to see my friend to take group pictures. . .

    16. I ordered my second doll only a month after my first doll had arrived. I hadn't planned to buy another one so soon, but once I saw Galena, I knew I had to have her. The character I have planned for her was originally going to be shelled in my first doll (DOD Calla), but after a week of having my Calla, it became apparent that she was an entirely different character. I was planning for my second doll to be a boy, a companion for my first doll. I have no idea when that will actually happen though (other things need to be taken care of first.... yes... more important things... yes...).

    17. I haven't even got my first doll yet and I already want a second one.
I'm ordering a DZ Aimi later today and will be modeling her after a pre-existing OC, and I feel like if I'm going to have her then I ought to have her brother as well; but he'd have to be an SD because he's much taller than she is, and I just can't afford to buy both right now.

    18. I'm not too satisfied with my first one...i love the face but not the body...it's a slim type, though...but still looks weird...especially on the bust shape (^.^)''''...well, it was on sale, anyway...for the sale-price, she was ok, though...but...hmmm...i want something more serious next time...my really-really wish...

I'm planning on the second one and third...but one of them will be the body only as I love AE faces...so I will just purchase the body for hybrid purpose. I'm pretty confused which one to layaway first...the body or the 'full' basic doll (^.^)''''...

I want a different kind of body from slim type...yet, i still want an improve in term of 'figure', shape, poseability and quality.

So far I don't plan the fourth or fifth, etc...as long as there's no 'drastic' change in industrial measurement in MSD size, i'll be satisfying with my MSDs...(^.^)...

it would be also different if I want a smaller size, like 27cm...so far, i can hold myself. some asleep faces are adorable but i don't really want it...never dream of 60, though...I like one of SD size of asleep...I want to purchase the head only but it will be useless if I don't have the body...I haven't interested in the 60cm body or SD so far...i like MSD that it's just medium, not too big...

in case i want an SD, i must do again a research...siiiiggghhh...in MSD case, it was a 'long journey' in front of my monitor, asking this and that, watching some MSDs...reading a lot of info here so I can affirm myself what's the best...siiigggghhh...i'm not sure i want to do that again in short period...my eeeeeysss...drrrryyy and soooore...(=x=)

    19. I got my second doll as a gift, so it wasn't a decision I had to make myself! However, the second time I decided to BUY a doll was actually ALMOST three years after my first. And then after buying that one only a few months until my next. If I could afford it I know I would have more already, despite saying, "I don't want to be one of those people with a TON of dolls!" ... I have a feeling I will be. I wonder if it always happens that way? XD

    20. I just bought my second one. I've only had my first one for like, three months.
...And I still want moar. MOAR.
