1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Buying your second BJD

May 4, 2009

    1. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD? What made you want another one? Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll? Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?

I'm just confused about if now is the right time for me to place an order for my second BJD... almost 6 months now since I got Cecilia. I would like to hear everyone's opinions.

I originally didn't want a second BJD. However I was bitten by the 'I have to modify something" bug late last year. I had my first doll in September and felt a strong need to get her a companion and bought my second one in February of this year. So, it was a few months. I decided to get separate parts so that I could have a hybrid to mod. The only thing I've regretted so far with any of my dolls is that I don't really have time to make them clothes or mod stuff much.

All I can say is that you have to decide for yourself what is right- my buys were impulsive and there's a good chance that I may sell my hybrid after a while. You need to make sure you are getting the model you really want. Read all the reviews, see as many pictures as possible. Unless you are planning on selling later, don't just impulse buy.

    2. i think its been 3 years but im getting 2 soo i dont know if i regret anything other then not buy anothr one sooner or plying with mine more

    3. i actually had quite a few doll characters planned out before i thought about buying my first, it took me a while deciding who to get first (about a year of planning actually). and the same with my second, who arrived about 6 months later. and then a few months later i got my third xD that was 2 years ago now so im definitely due for another (have ordered my fourth a few weeks ago). but ive definitely been havin cravings the last 2 years, especially since i have another 20 dolls characters or so.. just have never been financially stable enough to afford it. :)
im quite the perfectionist, and i plan all my purchases meticulously, so i dont regret buying any of them.

    4. DERUKA : I wish I was like you because I'm so impulsive. I just fall in love with their faces and want them , luckily they are so expensive and can't just buy.

When I bought my first which is a MSd I had to go for a cheaper doll at and just couldn't wait anymore but I now I really like the sculpts of the bigger dolls but don't find that the big ones will fit in with the MSDS and anyway I have too much clothes for the smaller ones now to start buying for the big ones.
Should have been like you and not so impulsive.

    5. Like so many others who have replied already, I always knew I'd want 2 so I could have a boy and a girl. It took me years of deciding and a bit of spare inheritance money to make me take the plunge and buy my first doll. Two months after she arrived, I ordered my next. It did seem a bit soon but then again I was certain I wanted him so why wait just for the sake of it? I had a shortlist of dolls I wanted and I'd been admiring him for about four months so it wasn't exactly an impulse decision.
As for regrets, I'll never regeret my first doll, I love her so much. My second hasn't arrived yet so we'll have to wait and see!
I'm not seriously planning any more although if I won the lottery or something there are a couple of dolls I'd really like to own. I just don't think I'll be able to justify buying more for a long time now.

    6. I ordered my second girl...3 days after I ordered my first! xD But that was because I couldn't pass up the CustomHouse sale, and I was mostly ordering because I wanted to give a tiny to a friend of mine and CH dolls were adorable and within my budget. So why not take advantage of the free head and get a doll for myself while I was at it? I'm now looking for my 3rd doll, and slowly saving up for her.

    7. I've only wanted 2 bjds since I started in this hobby. I've got the first ( well... almost, I wanted a Volks Sasha and I got an F16 instead) but the second one is an Unoa. Everytime I have the money the doll isn't available and vice versa :\

    8. Once I got my first doll... I just knew I had to get another one, soon. (I mean since entering this hobby I knew I couldn't possibly have just one)
      I waited a few months because I wanted to adjust with having my first doll before ordering another... and also because I didn't want their birthdays to be so close. ^^;
I don't think I'll get another doll for a while, because I'm happy with having two - it's a good number. My dolls each have a friend, and they're not lonely. :D
And lastly, I'm going to spoil them first... and then save up for another doll. xD

    9. There was a particular doll that had caught my interest that I started to think of as my first doll's brother, but he was unobtainable at the time. So, when I later saw him under obtainable circumstances, I obtained him >.< This was around 6 months later.
I haven't started feeling bad for my first one because my second likes bringing my first into the picture.

    10. I tend to think of my dolls in couples and for the most part, I stick to that, though I do have an oddball in the group. My first 3 dolls arrived pretty close together and I feel bad about the misfit, Orientdoll Tae. He's shorter, more refined, almost delicate, compared to my other MSD's. Still, I don't think I'll sell him. I think he has things to teach me. :)

    11. I think the bigger sculpts have beautiful faces and the MSDs sweeter kid's faces , I guess it depends on one's taste and character you want.
I also love my Fenyo and would never consider selling her now and will just stick to MSDs. Now that the free head is coming it will be for a 60cm body but I doubt I will buy a body for it and most probably try to swap or sell.

DISCO BISCIT : With the back log ....I doubt we will be getting our Dollzone so quick as we expected.

    12. My plan is for two dolls a year - one in winter and one in summer. We'll see if I can stick to it. Since I sew for my dolls I try wait until I have made 12 outfits (one for each month) for a doll before I get another one. Usually I stick with that plan.

    13. I ordered my second a month after I had ordered my first.
D; I couldn't help it, she was limited and I just fell in love with that cute little chocolate face.
It was not planned, I wanted to wait at least 3 months... I failed... miserably.

    14. I ordered a head about a month after my first doll, but I'm currently considering ordering a second full doll, about 8 months after I got my first. The thing is, I don't feel like I should order a second doll until I talk to my fiance about them. He's very practically-minded and it may take some work to convince him that yes, I do need another. :) He may wonder why I don't just buy a body for my floating head... but she's content to wait while I scrimp and save for a LE.

    15. About a month or two after I received my first. At first I looked back on LUTS then I went "window-shopping" and now I'm looking at the doll company I was first introduced to: Bluefairy. ^^ Even my first doll likes her! I don't have the finances right now to get her though ;_;

    16. I had always planned to get two right from the start. My frist doll (who should be here next week :) ) will be Commander Spock from Star Trek. Since I was getting him, I wanted a Captain Kirk to go with him (I slash them, see) and so after I purchased Spock, I went on the hunt for a Kirk. So my second doll was always planned and, funny enough, is already purchased even though the first one isn't here yet. I'm just very impatient to start doing photostories and stuff with the two of them so I ordered Kirk last week. So I waited...41 days before I bought my second. :)

    17. I just completed putting my yuki together and I'm already in the process of buying a Dollfie Dream. I didn't think I would be getting more then one doll but I fell in love with DD right away. I did feel a bit guilty about jumping into buying again only a month after completing my first doll, so I'm making myself feel better about it buy buying it a bit at a time as apposed to all at once. So far I've only ordered a head and a wig. I guess the answer is different for every one but if you have the funds with out any pressing priorities, I don't see a problem with moving ahead to getting your next doll. You can buy as quickly or as slowly as you like :)

    18. Once I get my first, I will immediately start working toward my second; for the simple reason that the OCs they will represent belong together and I want them together as soon as possible. Trance (Male) and Rave (Female) have been together in my mind since their creation, living together in the deepest darkest pars of my mind for years, so when I get Trance out of my head and into my hands I want Rave to join him as soon as I can get her there.

Maybe that's selfish of me, but I feel like it would feel weird and just not right to have one without the other.

    19. About 5 minutes after the first one was out of the box, I decided I needed a dozen more. ;)

...now I have 14. This needs to stop.

    20. I've rushed through my first few dolls, if I want one, I don't hesitate to start saving up. Actually I'm not sure who or what I may want after my MnF Miyu gets here but I'm saving up anyway incase one comes along. I don't mind having to sell a doll if things don't work out though, so I tend to rush a little more. I want to try things out until I find the right doll and I hate waiting haha.
