Buying your second BJD

May 4, 2009

1. I bought my first one in January and I've already narrowed my second one down to either Peak's Woods' Lady Bee 0r Doll Zone's Feilian 3.

2. I have bought my first BJD in 2008. One year later, I have bought my second BJD, in December 2009. But in February 2010 I have bought two little girls xD

3. I just bought my second last night. It's been 5 years since I bought my first and it will probably be another 5 years till I get another. My boyfriend chastises my for these expensive dolls. XD Plus I cosplay which is another expensive hobby. My reasoning is I got a massive tax return and didn't have any pressing bills. I have never regreted getting my first and will probably be getting several more ^_^

4. My first doll hasn't arrived yet but now, I'm actually saving up for the second one right now. I don't want my first one to be lonely. I want him to have a female companion. Initially, they already have the characters. They're my fraternal twins. Gahh I'm too addicted with BJDs right now O.O

5. XD I decided to buy my second doll before I had bought any at all. Now that I've bought my first and am waiting for him, I'm still planning dolls that I want.

6. I got my first about a month ago (ordered in February) and just ordered my second yesterday. And the third (brother for the second) will be ordered in the next few weeks. I'm rather lucky that finances are allowing for it right now, especially since I've already got plans for more. |D

7. I decided to get my second doll after my former-roomie/BFF moved away (still my BFF, but she lives in another state), and took her doll with her. My girl has no one to play with now that there's not another doll in the house! So I decided that she had to have a friend. I'm debating a third, but that one would be based on a pre-existing character. And it's not a sure thing. I might be happy with just two!

Then again... ;)

8. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD? What made you want another one?

Almost immediately! I saw one that I fell head over heels for - and then I found the sleeping version except they needed a brother and pretty soon I had 11 - and I adore every single one of them although few are here yet.I'm a (very) expectant mom!

Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll?

Yes. I collect dolls and have many large ones. For the longest time, I didn't think I had an interest in BJDs. But there was something so interesting about them I just had to learn. Google started my search. I read and read and read. As I did, I started to understand this isn't just about collecting dolls. This is about creativity and skill. I finally realized that I was itching to give this"new" type of doll a whirl. Instead, as I discovered and looked - and finally joined this Forum (which is a wonderful place, I might add.) Once I had my first doll, my ideas for a grouping (two of them actually) just keep swirling. There was no hesitation. I feel so lucky to have discovered this fantastic hobby.

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?

No! I've been through all of that - buyer's remorse, getting a doll, selling the doll, buying a "good deal", having trouble selling the "good deal", being taken in by the hype and feeling like I should buy one too, and being more excited with getting the box than appreciating what was in the box. I guess everyone has their own style learning what a photograph really "says" to them and discerning what it is that constitutes a "forever" doll. I was ready for this because of all my past mistakes. Now I buy what speaks to me, have definite opinions about artistic merit and ignore the hype. I think this is why this Forum is so special. Every doll is special to someone and that ideal is so well-supported here. And, I can see I'll be learning for years to come. Cool!

Surely no)))) He should be grateful to me that I bought a lover for him)))

9. Aww, I have been thinking another one before, but now I really want one. It's few months (actually... the 11th day comes four months) after I got Amalthea. She seems little lonely and I feel little bad about her. Z__z And of corse I don't have money.
But, I'm not sure what kind of doll I want. I'm quite sure, that I will buy another girl to be friends with Amalthea, but I've also thought about boy... And I want at least one pukipuki. D:

10. I never intended to have just one. I'm a collector by nature and the storyline I started out on needed at least my first's BFF:sweat. I just had to wait a couple of months until an appropriate sculpt came along.
I didn't expect to have THIS many this fast, but two years into the hobby and they take up 3/4 of my couch . . .

11. Back at the beginning of 2007 when I first got Beren I sternly admonished myself to just be content with one. I think that lasted maybe 4 months before ordering Dublin, I rationalized it to myself because Dublin was limited and I had to choose right then didn't I? By the time the year ended I had yet another doll (Anatoly) plus two floating heads so one can say I abandoned the idea of being satisfied with what I had. XD

Now that I've been in the hobby for a while that feeling of wanting all the candy in the candy store has subsided. I've gotten a better idea of what I want to own, and understand that thinking a doll is pretty doesn't necessarily mean I need or want to buy it.

12. I'm already thinking of buying my first two together, finances permitting (still debating this, though... I guess I'll see how I feel in a couple months). If not, I'm definitely buying the second as soon as I can :)

13. Hmm well I just bought my second, and I've had Allan for a year.. so.. a year? I got both the head and body for very good prices and ended up spending only $257 after shipping... both of my boys together cost less than many people's one :D I don't feel bad for Allan because this one is his little brother, so they will have a role in each other's character. I've been careful to sell the things I'm not using, so I don't feel like I am overdoing it, but I don't plan on buying any others... now I have things I really need to sock money away for so as soon as my boys have their correct eyes and hair and shoes, I will devote time to making the rest and saving my money.

I DID resist getting a second for a long time, because I didn't want to be impulsive, and I refuse myself to get snowballing... but now that my boys have characters I can actually build them into, I think my desire for more will be a lot less because I won't feel "seeking" a character... I think brothers are perfect and don't need anyone else in their little world <3

14. I would buy a second one if my wallet allowed it. But I have thought about a second one shortly after I bought my first one.

15. I have not gotten my Second Doll, most likely I haven't even gotten my first. But, when I do get my second doll, it'll be my first boy and it'll be VERY exciting...
I hope.

16. After I recieved Ena, it wasn't so difficult to decide she needs a boyfriend.
She looks so alone, so 3 of four months later I bought Golfin for her. It was love at first sight...

17. About 10 hours after opening Devon's box, I decided he needed a twin sister.

'Course I won't be able to afford her for a while~ but he will get her. :3

18. I bought my first resin BJD (slim mini size) after purchasing 4 vinyl BJD's..I knew I was hooked. That was with tax return money...and for most of the following year I thought I'd buy another slim mini sized doll with the next tax return...but just a few months prior I saw a Yo-SD. So cute, and a small doll that was that posable!!! For a while though I had been admiring the LittleFees so after seeing the Yo-SD I took the plunge and bought a LittleFee instead with my tax return. I really thought I'd just stick with one size doll initially...but you can't. Having a variety of dolls make them even more FUN! I now know I'm doomed to own who knows how many. Just wish I was better at saving my money through the year so I wouldn't have to wait to get my tax return to get a new doll...*sigh*...but alas...the dolls I have just beg for STUFF throughout the year!!!

19. I believe it’s been almost two months since I bought my first BJD and then did for my second. Right after my first a wish list exploded then expanded. I was pretty sure that I was hooked (and I figured it was both a good thing and bad thing considering I just followed through with another thing that I wanted for a long while now aside from cosplay/art/music to make me broke). I decided to save up and wait for whatever opportunities that would come out at me that’d tackle my wish list down.

Then I planned for my MSD (that I’m still waiting for apparently haha) to have a boyfriend, then looked out for “supposedly” two more sculpts that I’d get (planning for a total of only 4, but you never know, BJDs seem to duplicate themselves sometimes… I’m beginning to think).

I continued saving along and was browsing the MP while I was trying to save for something. Then I found a sculpt that I really fell for--mostly head, I might get a new body later--I loved the “bags” not really bags but..? Under his eyes. They contribute to the look I was hoping to bring out for my character. I’m not sure if it was at the “right” time, but certainly the CAD went up, so I saved a bit and it was in the same province as me so I saved shipping & the time to wait shouldn’t be that long. I love the sculpt and some other factors backed it up. So I ended up buying him after pondering for two days.

I’m not really sure if I regret my first purchase. I think I’ll know whether or not if I do once he really gets home, I suppose.

20. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD? Well, I got my first BJD in January '09. I was content with just him for a while, but kept thinking about the things I could do if I had more than one doll. Then I came up with some characters and found the perfect sculpts for them, so about a year and a half later, here I am again. xP

What made you want another one? I thought that the sculpt was gorgeous and it fitted the character I had in mind.

Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll? A year and a half. I waited a few months after seeing the sculpt I liked just to make sure that it was the one I wanted and all that.

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?
I'll tell you when she gets here, I guess... I'm a little bit worried incase I start neglecting one over the other, but I don't think that'll happen.
