Buying your second BJD

May 4, 2009

    1. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD?
I started looking for a second doll almost right after I received my first. I had known from the start I wanted more than one because I wanted a girl doll but also wanted to shell atleast one of my beloved boy characters too.

What made you want another one?
I have alot of characters who I've made and changed with over the years. I'm starting over with my doll collection and I found the perfect sculpt to be my one and only female character... but I still feel like a peice of me is missing not to have a boy doll anymore, and I want to have atleast my Luka shelled because he's very dear to me and also to my best friend (which is a bonus).

Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll?
I ordered and paid for my girl in July and I've been searching since for the perfect boy mould that will reflect my Luka but also look good with my girl. I think I may have found a mould that will work well but he's abit more expensive than the others in his range and I've no money right now to begin with. I'm going to try and start to save up (he's not limited thankfully) and see if my love for him sways over the next few monthes. This gives me time to bond with and enjoy my girl and do more research too. Plus I refuse to just pop him on the credit card and slowly pay it off. If I was going to do that I may as well have bought a doll instead of paying off the credit card to being with lol.

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?
      I don't feel bad, I usually pose the dolls together cuddling and such. I get the dolls for me and while I might feel bad if one gets abit more attention than the other I just remind myself they're dolls and they're fine. My characters all know I'm biased anyway 8D;

    2. My first was an AOD MSD, and I wanted an SD so I began to look for one of those for my second...and when I saw my Luts Senior Delf on eBay a few months later, I just fell completely in love with his gorgeous face and had to have him..

    3. My friends pestered me into my second one, after only a couple of months. Ended up selling him anyway, but by then, the floodgates were opened.
Otherwise, I like to think I would have been happy with my first, for a looooong time.

    4. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD?
I had originally planned on keeping at least one year between doll purchases, but that didn't happen. I think it was about 6-8 months between the first and second doll. I can't remember what the other time periods between dolls have been, but I have been known to wait anything from almost a year to just a couple of months between purchases.

What made you want another one?
In the case of the first and second doll, I had always planned on having at least the two, one boy and one girl. After that I just kept coming up with characters I wanted to have dolls for, and I recently found a doll I just wanted without having a set character already made.

Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll?
Like I said, the original plan had been to wait for a year. It was mostly a matter of wanting to make sure I had more than enough money to cover the purchase while still having a good amount left in the bank for emergencies. So yeah, I waited, but not as long as I planned :p

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?
      Not at all.

    5. When I got Ophelia(my first doll, and a Resinsoul Mei MSD), I was so happy with her. I had her for over a year before I broke under the pressure of seeing my friends SD's, and other dolls that were considered 'better quality' then her.. So as a highschool graduation present to myself, I bought Gabriel (a Doll-Love Lenon, SD). Now, in the midst of waiting for Gabe, I founded the BJD Arkansas Owners and Etc group. Which, if you've been in a large group of doll owners every so often, it tempts you into buying more dolls... So now I'm waiting on my THIRD doll, whom I plan to name Isaiah (A Dollzone Luke, MSD) who I ordered only about 2 months later.
But its here that I'm going to put my foot down and say that I'm not going to buy MYSELF any more dolls. As far as being gifted dolls however, I'll remain completely open! Hahahah

    6. I went after my second doll a month after I got my first (RS Ni) from an anime convention because she was lonely and needed a friend. I also wanted to do an Alice in Wonderland photoshoot since I felt my first bjd would make a precious Alice but its kind of hard when you only own 1 doll. Though I'm not planning to do a whole AiW cast, my "white rabbit" Pukifee is soon to be here within the month and then I can start dressing them accordingly. I also wanted a mischevious little demon boy to run amuck and play tricks on the other dolls and my in-coming pukifee is perfect~

The only length of time I waited before buying my in-coming Pukifee was the amount it took me to get to having %50 of his price in my paypal lol

Never felt bad about getting Anemone since it was a spur-of-the-moment gift hubby wanted to get me since we were at the convention on my birthday.

    7. At the time there were no other dolls that I was interested in having at the time accept for my first doll. My first doll was like... in my mind, he had no equal, he was what I wanted. Two weeks after I bought him I began to realised I wanted a girl, and mostly, I wanted him to have company, so I could have the two 'interact' like many other doll owners have theres. But I didn't like any of the girls I'd seen enough to go for them. :/ Then the full packaged Chloe MNF was released! Straight away I knew she was perfect, perfect for what I'd been looking for and also perfect for a very important character I've had for years.

This was about two weeks after I'd received my first BJD and about two weeks prior to that 1st doll being restrung. It was aprox a month after I decided to buy my first. I think it was just luck that the MNF was released at this time, I was prepared to wait much longer and as it is, I wont receive my second doll until Christmas anyway, plenty of time to bond with my first. :aheartbea

Even though I haven't received her yet, I know I won't regret, her emotional value ensures this. : )

    8. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD?
About a year aften I got the first one. My DOT Shall was a present from my boyfriend in my 41th birthday, but I wanted to buy a doll on my own, and save for her.

What made you want another one?
I want to have three dolls minimum, so I have two now and saving for the 3rd.

Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll?
Yes, I waited for a year, because I didn't want to hurt my boyfriend's feeling...

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?
I love my first doll, I think she is the most beautiful doll and her body is so perfect! The second one is OK, but the first will be always special... I make lots of photographies of both together... never the second alone...

    9. I don't even have ONE doll yet, so I'm probably not qualified to answer, but I'm planning on getting my first two at the same time to avoid feeling like the first one is lonely xD

    10. I got my first (and atm only) doll at ohayocon at the end of January, so about 7 months ago. I'm planning on getting a pipos ringo by at least mid September, and hopefully in a few paychecks my first msd girl <3
I always feel guilty that my girl is lonely. She sulks. It's awful. I'm hoping to take her out more as well. What I need to get is her brother, cause I really wanna do photo stories of the two. If I'm lucky I'll actually get him at my next Ohayocon, a full year after his twin!

Anyways, on topic- I waited more time than I thought I would, but it did give me time to think over what I really 'needed' as opposed to what I just wanted.

      I want more dolls, but right now only two are actually planned. I need a car too, so that will come right after the two dolls ^^;
If I'm lucky my parents will pitch in for the car cause they sure won't get me a doll, haha

    11. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD?
Well...as soon as I decided the character for my first one, really. Not sure of the date, but it wasn't long.
What made you want another one?
As I mentioned, when I decided on who my doll was, I realized she'd need her best friend.
Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll?
I waited for a couple of months... I wish I'd waited longer, but I had the money.
Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?
      Absolutely not. They're both awesome.

    12. I've considered to buy an MSD this time around since I have a SD13 sized doll, unless I see another SD that really catches my attention.

    13. I have a character set in mind so I planed a second doll before I even bought my first, I simply found the sculpt for the first one... well ... first. About two days after I ordered him though I found the sculpt for boy number two and now I am stashing away my pennies for him before my first has even shipped.

    14. When I started looking for my first I was planning on only buying one but as soon as I placed my order for my first doll I started to really want another one so he wouldn't be lonely. So I bought my second one only about a week after buying my first one.

    15. Well, I basically knew I want a socond one from the moment I decided to get ANY BJDs... However, I wanted to take it slow, enjoy my first doll for a while...
And then, on a german board, I was offered a head for practicing face-ups. The moment I held him in my hands I was captivated. Now, my first is not even shipped yet, but I already have the boyfriend's head at home. Now all I need to do is decide on a Body. But which to choose *sigh*

    16. I haven't ordered my first doll yet, but I know I'm going to want more as right now there's like twenty other dollso on my wislist. xD I'm hoping I'll love my 1st doll so much that I won't even think about getting a 2nd for a few months, in which time hopefully I'll have a hunder or two $$$ saved for him/her. :D

    17. About six months after I received my first one... my SD boy wanted to get little sister... :)

    18. Me? I always wanted a BJD family, so... xD
I do have chosen dolls, but for ordering I'd rather wait till Summer/next Autumn.
I'm planning on starting a small 'dogsitting' business in the summer, so that I can earn my own money and buy my second baby.

    19. gosh! well I planned to just get one but right now I'm pretty much going to end up with two around the same time. I've almost got my little yrie sorted, and i adore the silt~shaman so I will be getting that one when it appears. originally it was just the shaman, but the birdie windies have totally grown on me and it was a must buy. oh dearie me! I really must keep track of what I buy. i know myself too well that I cannot handle too many of these beautiful dolls but thats what they all say ^.~ then have like a billion later heheee.
      we shall see ^.^

I am going to do what my sister is doing, and only get like two a year max. but so far the next on my wish list is a DoC Si or Yu. from that point I have not really found any others i'd be buying so I will just have to hope soom do not release any more that I love for a while xD

    20. Wow, 6 months to a year seems to be the general wait. I waited 2-3 years but only because when I got my first doll it put me off the whole doll scene (didnt bond with Yder.) but after selling the heads and getting an IF head (which for the time being we shall call my 'first complete doll') I guess it's the same for me, 6months to a year and I just ordered my peakswood last month! SO EXCITED!
