Buying your second BJD

May 4, 2009

    1. That is so funny! Same with me... I fell in love with Leina from LeekeWorld and ordered her right away - even though she was a pre-order. When I was looking around for the right outfit for her, I stumbled upon a photo of Ojallin from Dollga, that was it! I had to get her too... so I went ahead and bought her and she arrived just last Thursday - I bought both dolls in the same week and I don't regret it one bit! I'm already looking for my third and forth....:sweat and waiting for Leina... :aheartbea

    2. I bought my first (two) in december and they arrived in january. I've been thinking for months already about a second doll, but the one I had in mind was quite expensive so it was saving-up a lot ... The concept of his character was also quite empty and I didn't manage to find a profile that fit him really wel.
And then, last weekend, I was at some fair and there I saw a b&g Sapphira, he was just gorgeous and I fell in love a bit xD. He also seemed to scream out a profile and links to my other dolls. It was as if he really was the one I was looking for whitout knowing it.

I didn't really like the looks of the doll on the company website, but whitout faceup he was awesome. After some owner pics he still is so I'm probably going to order him soon. He's quite near to where I live so it shouldn't take too long.
Now I only need to face the parents... xD

    3. I started thinking about getting a second doll not long after receiving my first. She just seemed so lonely up on my shelf. It took me over a year to finally be able to get my second doll, but once he came home I was very happy. The really interesting thing is that he actually helped me bond better with my first.

    4. My second doll came home less than three months after my first one, but I also note that second doll was bought on layaway-meaning I started paying for him not long after my first came home.

I'm not usually so free-spending, especially not on such big purchases, but when I'd ordered my first doll, since I had enough money at the time I actually had considered ordering both my first and second together seeing as they were both from the same company anyway, but was talked out of it in the end.

In the end I'm really not surprised I bought my second so quickly seeing as he's very quickly wriggled his way up to being my number one boy and although I still have and love my first doll, for me personally, I have that special connection and bond with my second doll that most people have with their first instead.

    5. I bought my second BJD BEFORE I got my first! No, really! I ordered my first on layaway, with the understanding it would be 6-8 weeks before she arrived. But I was so anxious/excited/impatient to actually have one of these beautiful dolls in hand, I ordered an in-stock doll shortly after. Glad I did, too, because it's now been over 2 months, and I still don't have my Mo! (She's paid for, but hasn't arrived from Dollzone yet. *sigh* )

    6. My decision on when or whether or not to buy a second doll depended on my money situation. I had always had plans of getting another doll, I just couldn't do it until I had enough money saved up. I didn't feel guilty about buying my second doll as I played with them equally. While I admit there are some times that I will focus on a particular doll for a short period of time, I never completely for get about my other dolls.

    7. I started to want my second the moment I chose my first! xDD

But I had to save for my first for a while, and had him for a month or so before I bought my second on a total whim because I saw him in the MP and just happened to have the money, even though I already had 4 other dolls planned out that I wanted to get next ^^; I don't regret either purchase though, I love 'em both! Though sometimes I do wish I had started with dolls embodying characters I had already created, instead of creating new characters for the dolls I have. But those characters can wait for their turn! xDD

    8. I got my second about 6 months after my first. It gave me time to save and bond with the first. I'd always wanted two so of course, I never felt bad.
I did feel a little bad spending time with just one of them though as the other would be left alone. I solved that problem though, I got a third! lol That way two will always be together if I have having cuddle time with whichever one I choose. ;) Good plan?

I say it's up to you really. When you feel ready, go for it!

    9. my first girl is not even here yet but i already reserved a MNM head ^^;
      even though i planned on waiting atleast a year before getting another doll .__.;;
but i will still have time to bond with my first girl while i save up money for my MNM's body, eyes, wig, clothes, faceup...
so it will be okay ^^

    10. When I first got into this hobby, I always knew that one of these beauties would never be enough. It took me almost a year, since my first discovery of BJD's to get Kori home. *huggles him*

But while I was still saving for him, my eye was always open to other dolls. I've since finalized my decision on a second doll a few months ago and am in the saving process as we speak. (though its going quite slowly Dx )

I don't think I'll regret getting a second...or third, ect. doll. I'm taking my time to make sure the mold I choose is exactly what I want. Pretty much I'm acting the same way I was when I first decided to get Kori. If anything, these dolls will only make me happier as time goes on.

And for technicalities sake, I'm estimating my second doll will arrive a year after Kori did. (Ponders over her lack of job and saving technique) I'm in no rush. :)

    11. Hehe, I actually ordered my 2nd doll just 3 days after my first. She is a limited edition, and the only other limited doll that had been left sold out, so I panicked and ordered her right away. She was (and still is) the prettiest girl sculpt in my eyes, and I don't regret it at all. My first doll still gets the most attention, actually, so I kinda feel bad for the others sometimes XP

    12. It's been close to a year but I've got a new doll(actually a head) on layaway. It wasn't that I didn't WANT a new doll but that I couldn't afford it working 1 day a week at Mcdonalds :'D But I've been saving since September for an anime con so I figured hey, why not get a new head? ^^

    13. I put DD Yoko on preorder the day after my Sayuri (DD Aoi) arrived. The only problem now is I have to wait until September for Yoko to arrive...

    14. It's very difficult not to want other dolls ... I don't know ... my first boy charmed me so much that I couldn't stop thinking to have another ... my actual plan for now is to have 3 ^^

I recently got my second boy ... almost a year after my first was received.

He's at home now thanks to a group order to my country, which gave me a great chance ... I can tell you it was a rushed decision but I don't regret it at all.

I was very nervous ... I know it's strange but ... I used to think I would feel sorry for my first boy.
Now that they're together I can tell you it's not that way ... none of them can be replaced n.n

I guess it is a matter of feelings and situations ...

    15. Before I even bought my first one, I had plans for about 6 dolls in total. I have almost 0 income so buying my second one will have to wait, but I always had had the intention of getting my dolls in pairs so that they wouldn't be lonely. Since Hayvn's all by herself, my friends and I give her lots of attention and make clothes for her, so it's not so bad. ^^

As for attention, I'm actually concerned the last few I want to get will get the least amount of attention because I kinda just want them for the sake of having them. o_O; Luxury's Luxury dolls if you will. XD

There is no right answer to "when" though. If you can afford to buy them, if you have the space, if you think that the two dolls can fairly share you, I say buy the second one. :)

    16. LOL, I've already ordered my second doll before my first has even arrived!
One reason I wanted the second is because the first doll I ordered (DOD E-an) is not a doll I plan to do much modifying with, aside from switching up eyes, wig, and clothes she's perfect! I wanted a doll I could "play" with. I want to experiment with face-ups and such and I really didn't want to that with my E-an. So I looked about and found a unique and cute little MSD (Bobobie Ariel) that can be modified in sooo many fun ways....and she reminds me of a fae! :)

    17. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD?
~ 1 year after my first

What made you want another one?
I wanted a girl to make pretty dresses for

Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll?
Yeah, even after I spotted the perfect doll it took me 2 months to hit that button.

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?
      Nope, never.

I don't think, personally, that there is ever a "right time" to buy a second doll. If you feel like it, found the perfect mold, and have sufficient funds to bring him/her home without having to starve for a month, then go for it.

    18. I ordered my second BJD 3 days after I ordered first (AND I got second-ordered BJD first - he was made more quickly). The reason for it - my second was a limited doll, and while I was seraching for first, I had several disappointments with limiteds already... So when I fell in love with a new limited doll I thought: "NO WAY I'll wait till I get first one as this beauty can get out of stock too".

    19. I decided to go ahead and buy my second about 6 months after my first because Dollshe stopped producing them- I didn't think it would be easy to find a husky after they sold out.
I did not feel guilty and the only regret I felt was when I looked at other dollshe boys I want. But those feelings soon went away.
I don't think people should feel guilty for their first doll's sake considering it is, after all, just a doll. However, I do think it is a good idea for a person to consider the purchase carefully for other reasons.

    20. The odd thing is that I didn't really bond with my first, but I was still very active in the hobby and kept track of all new dolls that were released. I happened to stumbled upon Souldoll Miryu and it was love at first sight. I just couldn't put her out of my mind, so I had to buy her  I think that was like 6 months after I bought my first.

I'm not sure that I ever fell out of love with her either, she's still one of my favourites.
