Buying your second BJD

May 4, 2009

    1. My first one, I spent 2+ years oggling at him, indecisive about the price and the necessity until I finally took the plunge. I waited for two months, and after he arrived in August, I was completely convinced that he was the only doll I'll ever get, save for maybe an older version. (Which I managed to snatch up sometime in september - the head, anyways)

...Yeah, right. Sometime in October, I was hit over the head with my sudden desire for a KDF.... Who was supposed to be a representation of an anime character. But then, he took on the personality and character of one of my own characters instead, becoming a cute little genius kid. So I ended up ordering him at the end of November.

He arrived two weeks later, successfully capturing my mother's heart, who was rather cool towards my first.

To be honest, I play with him a lot more than with Russel.... I dunno, he's so cute and childish, whereas Russel is tall and... more adult. Yeah, I feel kind of bad.... But that's a good thing, because this guilt pushed me to make him clothes!

    2. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD?

About a week or two after my first one arrived I saw a Fenyo head that no one seemed to want in the DoA Marketplace and thought "Hmmm..." A few weeks and a body arrival later and I had my Mina! :aheartbea

What made you want another one?
Meika needed a dolly friend. ;)

Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll?
Yeah, about two weeks or so.

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?
Nope! My girls got along swimmingly right from the start! :fangirl:

    3. Well, I ordered my first BJD last December, and I'm planning to order my second BJD during this summer...so I would say about seven months, more or less :) It took about a little over two months after receiving Faye that I've decided to add another doll to the picture though.

      -M

    4. One of the requirements for me buying my first BJD is that I have to promise to wait at least a year before buying my next one. I can look and oogle all I like, but I have to wait. I've also told my boyfriend this, so if my resolve starts to weaken, he can remind me.

This is a promise to myself, because I want to be cautious with my money, and truly enjoy my first doll before rushing out to buy another.

    5. I've decided on an every six months rule--as in, I can't buy another doll until six months have passed. That being said, Reiji was my second boy. I had a lot of trouble bonding with him at first... I think it's because I didn't have to wait for him... the anticipation of arrival is a wonderful way for me to bond, I realized, and he arrived the day after I ordered him, so I didn't get that. His stuff took ages to arrive, and I'm STILL learning about the dollie him... six months later. I still sometimes think about selling him, but I don't regret buying him in the first place.
      I decided to buy my third doll because of him, actually. He's a tiny thing, but I thought if I gave Reiji something to bond with himself, I'd like him more... if that makes any sense! ^^;

    6. I've had my first doll for about 2-3 years now, without feeling any need for more ^^ But I'm thinking now that I'd like to have a boy, after seeing all the dashing boys on DoA. It will probably be a long time before I buy one, if I do, just because I'm pretty picky. I think I would feel a lot less nervous doing face-ups and mods on my second doll though.

    7. When I decided that I wanted a doll, I knew that I would want to have at least two - one girl and one boy to dress up, or one to buy in default face up and one to make into a custom. Since I have my first doll which is a boy in default make up, then my second doll I'm saving for would be a girl preferably with custom face up, but default would still be ok.

    8. Once I realized, "He needs a boyfriend..."
      :sweat

    9. I bought my second within a week of receiving my first. :sweat

It was like "this is great! I need MOAR!"
A year and quite a few more dolls later, my first is still the one I'm the most bonded to. He was never "replaced" despite all the dolls I have now.

    10. I bought my second doll two months after I got my first. It was sort of an impulse buy, and I ended up selling him shortly afterwards.

Buying him helped me determine that I don't like SDs xD

    11. I really am laughing (i know it's lol) because so many people sound like me! i just have one and I thought, just spend time with her, get to know her, they cost too much, you have to pay this off...and now I'm already thinking she needs a friend or a doll, or a sister....
and it's been about 1 week I think.
i'm sure i won't make it 6 months (even though I have also given myself a time frame).
      and I don't care!
      lol

    12. I bought my second, third and I don't remember how many after that, really, in quick succession. I had no idea what kind of bjd I was looking for, or what I'd enjoy living with or customizing or what. In fact, it took awhile for me to loosen up and enjoy the hobby, but I went through a great many before I found any that I could remotely consider myself to have 'bonded' with. Right now I have just a few and like it that way, but a few years ago I had as many as 20 at a time! I can't imagine having that many at once now, haha. You'll find your way, don't worry about it. ^_^

    13. I bought my second almost a year to the day of ordering my first.

A year ago never would I have expected that I would be getting a second one, but as time passed I realised how much I wanted another one. I went for a girl this time (much to my mom's happiness... as she still can't understand why I got a boy to begin with.. *sigh*). So now with a girl I am able to expand my sewing skills...

Plus it turned out that she got here exactly 11 months to the day I got him... I'm still paying her off (thanks to a loan from my grandma *hugs*) but after that I'm definitely going to begin to save up for my first tiny... then after that... even I don't really know.

    14. i am expecting my 2nd doll in about 3 - 4 weeks. it will be a year since i got my first. i feel like that was long enough in between, so no, i don't feel guilty. BUT...i just ordered another head, and the body will follow very soon. so, the 3rd one i feel will come a little too quick after my 2nd, and i do feel a little bad. i think what i might do is when i get him, i will store him away for a couple months while i bond with my 2nd. but, i kind of like making myself wait - it makes each doll more special. :3

    15. Soon after receiving my first one I started thinking about a second one. Due to finances my dolls will be ordered once, maybe twice a year. I want at least one more.

      I don't feel bad for Briar. It's a sibling/playmate for her. :D

    16. My first one isn't home yet, and I am already looking for a second one XD
Both are Minifees. But the second one is just supposed to be a floating head I could modify and customize (because I won't EVER dare to start doing it on my first BJD 0_0) and maybe - someday - it will get a body and be my second doll for real...but that doesn't count yet, right? XD *feels less guilty*

    17. I wasn't planning on getting another doll until well after I had received my first. However, I had been looking around at dolls, dreaming about my future purchases while I was waiting for the first to ship and have now acquired a wishlist of dolls that I would love to have.

It just so happened that I found a Breakaway head for sale on the marketplace one day and knowing he is limited and I might not get another chance, I snatched him up. He was just a floating head for a few months, so I had some time to bond with my MSD before I started playing with him. He is complete now and I have to admit, I find him more impressive than my MSD. I've felt guilty about it before, but I think I give them pretty equal attention. They are both special in their own way. It's not hard when you have just two, so I was never that worried about it. It's the third I'm worried about.

I don't think I will be ordering a third doll for a while now.

    18. Well, basically, I just received my first, and I'm determined to buy the second, even though the thought of entering the same "carnival" the money raising for the first was, is terrifying D:
I'm of course, gonna take a small break until I will start raising money again, but I'm now even more sure that it will be fine XD

    19. Well, I bought my first two floating heads at the same time, but first one to have a body was Olivia. I guess that makes her my first. Few months after Olivia got a body, I bought one for Otto too! And not so long after that I snatched a dreaming lily-faceplate at the marketplace. And a week or so later I somehow had a Pong Pong on layaway ^^''

They just increase on their own, I swear! *sweatdrop*

    20. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD?

I started looking maybe six months after I bought Hito in early 2003. I didn't start looking for a companion for her until the end of 2003, but there weren't a lot of male sculpts that I thought worked for the character I had in mind...until Luts/CP El came out!

What made you want another one?
I already had a character in mind to be her companion and this sculpt was just what I had in mind. :)

Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll?

I saved up some cash over the span of about a month or so, then I ordered him.

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?
Definitely not. They go so well together! :)
