Buying your second BJD

May 4, 2009

    1. Hmm, I got my first (Kaiden) in January of 2008...

Then decided he needed a friend (Hunter), and well, since Pipos brought out the LE Bao, I had to buy him then. That was in February of 2008...

      (and then came the rest)

Then I happened to find a damaged CP DE Soo head on the MP, April -ish of 2008.

Then Kaye made the Kazekids Pepper sculpt (Mercy), and that was in April of 2008...

Sadie and Jaxon's head came along in November of 2008...

Anndd Rivven came along in May of 2009.

    2. I bought my first in December, while waiting for him I got my second on April 2nd (he didn't arrive until April 14th). There was something about her, I just couldn't stop thinking about her no matter what I did... I justified buying her by saying that the dress I bought would fit her. Now I'm waiting for her, there has been no bonding issues with my first boy. After all... she won't arrive until for a few months ^^.

Actually, I'm already saving for my third (with the help and conspiracy of my husband) and we are planning a fourth. I have a feeling that we'll end up with an Army of Resin babies and enough clothing between all of them that they can mix, match and share.

    3. When I first got into the hobby I thought that I would get one and that would be that. But A month after I received my first one I decided that he needed a friend. And so two months later I bought another one. It was all down hill for my money after that. Lol. But I think you've wait long enough, if anything it's funner having more then just one. ^_^

    4. well, i bought my first bjd june 2008 and it did not took me long to order my second one, she arrived in november 2008.
i never did feel bad for my first doll Jamie.

    5. I decided to get my second doll about 2 weeks after I received my first doll. I really wasn't happy with my first purchase, mainly because the doll I received looked so different from his promo pictures. I really regretted the purchase, but I'm much happier with my second doll now. So no, I didn't feel bad for the first one, since he left before my second doll got home.

    6. I just got another $1700 from my school so I figured it was time to buy my second one :sweat I'm bidding on her on ebay right now and praying that I win. It's only between me and someone else. :x She's so adorable!

    7. Well i received my first doll on wednesday and I just ordered her a friend. She looked lonely, so to me it made sense.
I just have to try and hide the purchase from my parents now... I dunno how I'm going to manage that as she'll arrive when I'm at school.
      =]

    8. I got a second doll a little over a year after my first one. I wanted to make sure my first one was settled in with a decent wardrobe and such before I received my second as a birthday present from my parents.
      However, I sold them both around the same time, and now I'm back to one and deciding on another second. ^^;

    9. 6 months, huh? I didn't last 3 months before getting another doll. :doh

But then again, to me, one of the most enjoyable aspects of the hobby is creating a character. A doll is something like a blank template. By changing an outfit, a wig or a pair of eyes, I can change the entire personality of a doll. Adding another doll to a collection gives you that much more to work with! With several dolls, the possibilities are simply endless. Regret never figured into it at all. :whee:

    10. Andarton here on the boards had been collecting BJDs for awhile, and before we started living together, I would always marvel at them when I was visiting him. Back then, I was afraid to touch them - they looked so marvelous, like they'd be fragile! He was always assuring me it was okay, but it wasn't until we moved in together that I really started feeling comfortable with them.

Once he introduced me to the boards, I pretty much knew I had to have one. I got my AoD Chen fairly quickly - and followed him up pretty quickly with two others. I'm incredibly impatient, but luckily have been happy with all of my purchases. :3 They're so much fun. n_n

    11. I sent in a down payment for my second doll this week.

I ordered my first dollie back in December.

      He still hasn't arrived.

I want some resin to cuddle, seriously ;A; Besides, this way I can get to work on making fun photostories with the two of them much sooner ^^

    12. Well I decided I wanted a second even before I ordered my first :sweat I got in a little over me head. I actually ordered my first (Who was on back order:|) Then about 3 weeks later decided to buy another who was in stock so my second ordered became my first dollfie. *_* Before they sent out my second (After they got him from the company) I also decided to get my third so I got my second and third on the same day.

    13. Okay, so these dolls are REALLY addicting! When I bought my first one I thought, "okay, I'll get one and that will be all I'll need/afford. I got her in October, by January I ordered another.

At first I did feel a little guilty about the idea of getting a second doll, but it didn't make me like my first any less for it, in fact she is my favorite I think because she was my first.

I personally think you shouldn't get another doll until the one you already own is complete. Make sure they have the right look, character or personality before you move on to working on another. I think that was why I felt guilty at first by the idea of buying another, because I hadn't spent enough time with my first one yet and she wasn't complete. They are expensive dolls, so thoroughly enjoy the one you have before you move onto another... that doesn't mean you can't be saving up for the next one at the same time ;) and doing your research to find out which will eventually be your new addition.

    14. I've never really decided when to because the only time I've had(have) more than two are when my "twins" arrived. I suppose my regret with all my previous ones is that it was lacking doll to doll interaction and I felt bad for it because I felt like I was not playing with it enough. :sweat

But I think it's best to think through your second purchase rather than buying it on whim for the sake of the first's companionship. Besides, it should be something fun! And if you're uncertain you can always give it time and ask around; I'm sure a lot of people would be more than happy to help you with that. :)

    15. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD? I bought my second doll three years (almost exactly) after I bought my first one.

What made you want another one? I don't really know. I was looking around at dolls online, and I just thought it'd be nice to have another one around. : )

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase? No, not at all. : )

    16. I am totally with you on this comment. @.@ I really thought that Bobby was going to be my only doll until a friend of mine and I started a new RP and someone showed me the Rosette dolls, in which I discovered Violet, and realized that THAT was my new character.. Had to have her. So approximately 3 months after buying Bobby, we're patiently waiting for Lilly. <3

      :D

    17. i brought my first doll of december 08 and my second on april 09.

it was pure luck that i even got my second doll at all, soom just released the MD Cuprit right when
i got a larg amount of money so i was able to buy her, i was thrilled becouse she fited one of
my characters perfectly, the character that goes with my first doll infact!

i definatly don't regret buying him becouse him but i do feel alittle sorry for Cadel (my first) becouse
he hates the character of my second doll XD

    18. It took me a while to buy my second doll. I'd had money, but was very hesitant because I was more than content with one doll. Despite my intentions on owning many dolls when I bought the first, I didn't want any more for a while.

There were some dolls I'd considered, but they really didn't suit what I wanted.

Then I started a minimee order, which would mean I'd end up with more dolls. Buying a second doll was inevitable.

I ended up really liking Luts Bory (girl version), but decided I didn't really need another doll. Ugh, then one day I was going to buy her on impulse but Luts had their orders down for maintenence. This prevented the impulse buy which I'm glad it did because by the time I was sure that I wanted her, I was ready.

Buuuut, when I went to order her, Luts had orders down for the next four days again which I am very thankful for because during those four days, I couldn't wait to order her. Then I knew I was absolutely sure that I was ready for another doll!

    19. I think it's been.... four months(?) since I bought my first doll and my second will (hopefully!!) arrive within the next two weeks. I bought her almost two weeks ago. I don't feel guilty exactly, because my first one was a tiny and I always wanted her to have a sister(either a older or a younger). When I fell in love with Iplehouse JID girls the buying process went rather fast and was a little impulsive, but I'm not regretting it yet and don't think I will when she gets here either.

I do have other dolls as well(not BJDs) so I'm used to prioritize my time with them though ;) I wouldn't worry about it if I was you - if you find the perfect doll you shouldn't think about how long you had your first one- I would say "just go for it!"

    20. I bought my first (AoD Ming) about a year and a half ago. I haven't been in a house that had enough room to even get him out of the box properly but yesterday my BF and I decided "DAMMIT! We're getting DISPLAY CASES!!!!" as he collects military figures.... and we bought 2 gorgeous 3 shelf glass display cabinets with cream metal surround and full glass, and NOW I can display my doll beautifully. Which brings me to my point... I ordered my second doll 3 weeks ago (RS Mei) and also put a DT Seola on layby.... and THAT was because I accidentally got sucked back into DoA. So, it all your fault everyone! A-hem.
