Buying your second BJD

May 4, 2009

    1. I currently have my second on in a group order once I learned that I indeed could get a dream doll of mine. It hasn't even been a month since my first one arrived home either. The MNF Ryeon sculpt just jumped out at me and I could not help but search around and try to buy her. I love the head and bodies of Fairyland. T_T They're all so pretty but Ryeon is just gorgeous.

Edit: Of course after I decide to get Ryeon, I find the company that sells the Noctarcana Cirrcus group and the mold that I absolutely adore. Unfortunately I can't afford to get both of them so I got Tatiana as she was a bit more affordable than Ryeon, especially with the extras I got for her.

    2. I bought my second about a month after my first.

I was hoping NOT to buy another quite so soon, but the second was a doll I liked a lot and she was limited, and I saw how difficult it can be to get a limited after they have stopped being sold (this was years ago, when that was more true... now, it's much more possible to get a limited at a decent price!). Anyway, I knew I'd have to get this doll at the time if I ever wanted her... She went perfectly with my first doll and I would have been happy to just have the two... Or so I thought!!! Of course, I've since bought a LOT more... *sigh*

But I am still very happy with my first two. I just knew I'd like her and she'd be wonderful and I had to get her then or go through a lot of trouble and money later on...!

    3. I planned my first 5 dollfies all at once XD. Im only on my 2nd though (well Hes being paid for right now). I have added 2 more I want to be the 1st ones sister and the last ones daughter. I want them all as soon as I have the money! First 5 are male. Last 2 will be female.

    4. At first I didn't plan to buy the second one, mostly because of the financial reasons. But then after a year I started thinking how good it would be to get a boy for my girl, how would I make costumes for them, and take pictures of them... But I still didn't get used to my second doll, so somehow, it's not the case of "I feel guilty to my first doll!", it's more like "I have mixed feelings about the second one!".

    5. I was afraid when the second arrived. I persued a relationship with the first and the second.. paf! arrive and.. broke this particular link.

    6. XD honestly I decided it was time when I had the money. I've always wanted to get all the characters in my story as bjds so that wasn't a decision to be made~ and I can't say I felt sorry for my first doll...he finally had a friend to play with afterall.

    7. I wasnt planning on buying a second doll but suddenly I found out Dollshe boys were being discontinued and I got rushed to buy one. I begged and begged my mum (she'd promised ages ago to buy me a doll and I was saving the promise for a special occasion) and two days later he was ordered.
It all happened so fast. ^^"

    8. I bought my second one three months after the first one - but it's more because I wanted that doll for a long time and the girl just appeared on the market. I couldn't let go (:
Besides, these are supposed to be non-identical twins from a story of mine. They just belong together.

      And I already have a third doll planned, but that is solely for my sister - I showed her the Pipos Dali and there we have another BJD-fan (who was absolutely not into the hobby just a day ago) ^_^;;

    9. I got my second doll (1st boy!) about 5-6 months after my first girl.
My parents were a bit weird about me spending all that money again since I already had a doll, but when he arrived they liked him XD
..I only have 2, and I don't plan on getting a third until I've finished my huge 3 year uni course (in college, lol, cheaper) which'll throw me into around £10,000 debt.
Luckily I don't have to pay it back until I earn x-ammount of moneys a year.

      MONEY! D:

    10. I just recently decided to buy a second one (9 months after getting my first). I don't have him yet, but I plan to order him in about 2 months, so hopefully he'll be here around (or hopefully before) Christmas time.

When I got my first I thought I'd be happy with just one, and never even considered getting another. Well, that's all changed now. :P I get so much enjoyment out of Daelyn (Iplehouse Mars) and lately I find myself feeling like he's really lonely. Haha! So I've decided to get him a boyfriend (Souldoll Chron).

I know I'm not going to feel bad for Daelyn, or regret buying a second one. Daelyn's going to get the boyfriend he's been wanting and I'm going to have two dolls to enjoy. I'm so excited, I can hardly wait!

I realize now that they're like potato chips...you really can't be satisfied with just one. :P I know I'm going to want another one after Chiron arrives, but with them being so expensive (I prefer the 60cm and 70cm) I'm going to have to moderate myself. I'll probably end up getting one per year, as a Christmas present to myself.

My husband rolled his eyes and looked a bit pained when I told him I was going to get another one, but he's really fascinated with Daelyn and liked the promo pics I showed him of Chiron. His response was, "That's a cool looking doll". Coming from him, that's high praise. :P And plus, he can't really kick up much of a fuss because he's into registered Angora goats (we've got 4 so far) and they ain't exactly cheap!

    11. If you feel like buying your second one then you should do that.

I have my first one since january and ordered my second one about one week ago. I saw her and knew I should bring her home. It's all about your feeling and if you have the money of course... Actually I planned to buy the second in december, but yeah XD that will be my third then.
I have seen so much dolls which I've fallen in love with ~.~

    12. Interesting topic!

When I first started browsing around DoA and company's websites to pick out my first doll, the first threads of a story began to weave themselves in my head, as happens very often with me. By the time Alicia was on the way home, the outlines of her story were in place, and now, a year later, all of the main characters and plot points have been revealed to me. In that way, it was never really a question of "should I"? but simply a question of "when can I"? buy my next doll, and which character it should be.

Alicia, my first, is overjoyed if anything that her friends and mentors are starting to make plans to come live with us. :) I'd only feel "bad" for her now, since she's all alone! Although I do predict that my second doll will probably get the most attention, haha!

    13. I've had my first doll for almost a year. I didn't think I would want a second doll, but I kept entertaining the idea until I decided that I would spoil my first one before getting a second one. Plus, I hadn't actually found another doll that I adored.. until I saw owner pictures of MNF Miyu XD Now it's just a matter of getting money.

I am a little afraid though that my second doll will be like my "gateway doll" and from there on I won't stop collecting BJDs. I really only want a few, so if I go somewhere I won't leave any behind. My bf is getting at least one BJD, so maybe that'll curb my appetite XD

    14. When did you decide it was time to buy your second BJD?

I think that it is different for everyone but for me it was after my first doll has completely assimilated into the character and household. I always keep tabs on which molds I am attracted to and which molds I would like so by the time I go "Okay I think I can have another one" I already have most everything planned out.

What made you want another one?

I had always hoped to have more than one, I like diversity, but I am also a fan of self pacing and giving each doll time.

Did you wait any length of time before hitting the buy button after you got your first doll?

As my first doll was the biggest solo purchase I had made in life up to that point, yeah there was waiting and brooding and much rationalization.

Did you feel bad for the first one you got, and started regretting the purchase?

Nah, I fretted a lot during the 5 weeks of wait but after seeing him, no regrets. :)

    15. I had known that I'd want a second doll since before I even ordered my first. I absolutely hated the idea of my doll being an "only doll;" it just seemed lonely, and I wanted to be able to do photostories without having to a) use the same doll and myself all the time or b) involve someone else's dolls doing replies up and back, because I don't have the time for that. As such, I was just waiting for the time where it'd be financially feasible for me to order a second doll. Hence, I waited six months, and I got my second doll as a high school graduation present. :)

    16. Once I got Lir I knew I could not leave him alone, he had to have his Lady.

    17. I ordered my first two at the same time, actually. The original plan was to take out my sewing urges on them, and one seemed best suited to sexy or refined styles, and the other to sweet and artsy ones. I'm still waiting for that mythical 'free time' stuff to actually -act- on that plan, but they've gained a lot of company on the shelves since.

    18. Here are my two cents:

As for myself, my mind was already looking into possibilities for several dolls I wanted to create. I've even added to the list. Some I am looking for the right molds for, others I am working to save up for.

I think it's a factor of which dolls you get and in which order. For me, it can be a "Mouse and Cookie" scenario, where if you create one doll from, say, an Anime or a book series, it's likely if you create one, they will want some others from their world to play with.

As for me...my second is going to have my first to tease, so it works well.

    19. Well, my first I got after almost two years of drooling over dolls. The most major thing was that I didn't see any owner pictures of her (since she had just come out, I ordered her the day the mold was released). I love owner pictures, but it kinda turns me off of dolls I'm thinking of getting sometimes.
Having had her for almost a year (ordered July of 08, recieved August of 08) I've found that her "character" just doesn't seem to show much. She really needed a buddy to interact with. So I started looking, having a good bit in my savings again. The second factor was that I wanted one to represent my Drear characters, having paw-feet was the major factor, so after seeing Hati/Skoll, I was pretty much set for getting Chrom. Again, I ordered the first day the mold was available.

It seems my major thing will be to keep a stock of money whenever I start looking, and get the doll the first day it is avaible and I'm totally in love with it. If I think about it too long, it wanes badly. Both that I've ordered right away only strengthened my want for that doll.

So almost a year, though I've been looking for a few months, it was just a matter of having the money and looking for one the day they appeared. I've never regretted my Aidara, I don't think I'll regret Gelert. And on working for his character, her's is finally starting to come together as well. It's hard to make a personality without another to interact with.
I doubt I'll get any more SD+ sizes though after Gelert gets here. I really like the minis (and many of the small anthro dolls), and while I would have loved him to be mini, he's ok as a large doll, provided he's the only large one I'll have around. We'll see how that does.

    20. My second BJD was kinda funny.

First of all, I ordered my first doll at a christmas event, which gave me a free dollzone bunny, which is technically my second BJD.

But for my second BJD order, I was going for the Lu-Wen. At that time my first doll had not even arrived. I was in LOVE with the luts delf Lu-Wen, and I heard people about only being 6 dolls left in stock. And the page said he was limited. So I didn't know what to do. Should I buy him? But my first hadn't arrived yet and how sure was I that I would like bjd's?
And it would be my first time ordering something outside europe...

It took one day and then I decided to go for him! So I ordered him, paid him and recieved him. Lu-Wen got sold out, but strangely enough he also got restocked. But that didn't matter, because I already ordered mine.

And now? I still love my Lu-Wens. I never felt bad for my first one because when I ordered her I already wanted to have more than 1 bjd. And Ivan, the normal Lu-wen, would be the boyfriend of my dollzone cherry (my first doll). :)

So I never regretted him. At that time I didn't regret my dollzone cherry either. A few months later I regretted my dollzone cherry because she was a wrong mold decision. But no I am working on her and I don't regret her anymore. :)
