Can Body Blushing Go Too Far?

Oct 30, 2011

    1. I don't see how body blushing can be taken too far, it greatly depends on the owner and what they want. I personally blush my dolls completely, even if certain areas will never been seen unless their clothing gets changed.

    2. I love body blushing on dolls if it is done well. Inexpert blushing looks beyond awful to me. My dolls aren't, but only because they are always dressed and besides, I'm not sure I could do a good job of it and I would rather have nothing than have them look bad.

    3. My problem is that with so much blushing and MSC, the body really collects dirt from your hands and other surfaces very easily. The doll ends up looking grimy and it is hard to clean without damaging the blushing. With a face up is isn't a problem because you do not grab and hold the doll by the face or set it on a dirty/dusty surface face down, like you would with a body.

    4. I agree with NabeeRain. I really enjoy the looks of body blushing none-the-less.

    5. I don't think body blushing can ever go TOO far, but I do think that it becomes distasteful for me at a certain point. I don't think it's wrong to blush any part of your doll--it's your doll and your imagination, so you should do whatever makes you feel best and whatever you need to do to make the character come to life! However, for me, personally, I think that body hair blushing detracts from dolls in general. I feel that it's very hard to effectively 'draw' hair and when physical hair is attached to bjds, it just flat out looks creepy/awkward, to me.

However, that's just my personal preference. :) If someone wants to blush their doll in that way, I have no qualms with it--I just don't want that type of thing on my babies! But then again, body hair on men grosses me out in real life too, so it's no wonder I don't like it on dolls either.

    6. I think some blushing can take away from the overall appearance of the doll; I had my Gabrielle full-body blushed and I kind of think she would have looked better without such drastic blushing... I still love her regardless!
But the bottom line is that the owner is happy. If someone wants their doll blushed and haired in unconventional ways, then that's the way it should be done ;)

    7. I feel like if its your doll its your business .... nobody elses

    8. It's just a lot of work to fully blush a body, i just can't be bothered lol

    9. It's all personal preference.

I think your doll idea sounds really cool. I can't wait to see a doll blushed with that level of detail!

    10. hm, I don't see why she would have a problem doing the pubic hair, especially if you're paying for it. but I guess everyone has her limits. I guess there is a point where it can look like a bit too much depending on what you're going for. I dunno. you wouldn't want something to look crowded. but if you want a doll to look realistic I see nothing wrong with tending to their private areas as well as the rest of them. I mean...to put it loosely. it might look really strange if everything's done up nice, and then their crotch is blank O_o they're anatomically correct for a reason right? to look realistic.

    11. I tried to body blush my adult girl over the summer. I sealed her first and did it with a q-tip for the most part. I was really nervous and I think it showed too. The light wasn't so great when I did it an I was too drastic in the color choice and I think back on it I would like to try it again, this time with better lighting, better brushes and maybe water color pencils to do fine hair. I also have a doll in the original BBB blue skin tone that I would like to body blush but I am still not certain if her blushing would be in hues of pink or green or blue... Any suggestions are welcomed. What I am really confused about is that I just got an immature doll and I don't know if it would be appropriate to blush a immature body... Again, suggestion welcomed. I am worried that if I do someone will think I'm a perv or something....

    12. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?

This is purely personal preferance, some people like their doll bodies blushed and some done. Its like disliking mohair and liking it. Imagine you wanted to get a fake tan. I personally HATE looking tanned, id prefer to be lighter skinned. BUT some people will fake tan till their orange and I guess I would like to compare this to body blushing. There is no TOO FAR. If you like it. then its fine :)

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?
I think it really brings out the realism in the doll, which sometimes isnt what people are really lokking for. If i could get a body blushing on my doll, I would probably do it, though in no way would it take away from the VALUE of the bjd :(

    13. There is nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so. Private parts are called that because we are taught as kids not to flash them or let strangers get in there, but it's different on a doll (I think) because they are a piece of art. It's the same as having artistic nudity. If you have an idea in your mind, you should go with it, regardless of where it takes you.

    14. I think if you're paying for it, you're entitled to get what you want. Personally I don't like body hair and wouldn't want it on my dolls. But the idea that it would be immoral or offensive is ridiculous to me.

I hope this isn't a serious issue here. I haven't had blushing done on any of my dolls from their companies because I don't like every contour of the dolls' bodies traced. But I REALLY want my dolls' nipples painted. I was hoping to be able to send off all their torso sections for nipple jobs. Would people really be offended by such a request?

I just thought of something funny. When we were kids my cousin's mom wouldn't let her have any male dolls unless they had painted-on underwear, which isn't common if you have ever had Barbie dolls. XD I always thought that was hilarious. I had to take my boy dolls to her house so we could have them date since she wasn't allowed any boy dolls of her own. lol

BJDs are SO incredibly detailed, some go so far as to have 'working' anatomy (penises that can be posed in an erect position, holes in the backsides, mobile nipples) so what's a little paint on the nether region?

    15. My first doll had blushing on her hands and it chipped terribly so I haven't ordered any with body blushing or hand blushing since. For me I'd find it awkward if someone started undressing my dolls and found them to be blushed in a realistic manner, but if someone wants to have their doll completely and realistically blushed I have no objections. It all comes down to how you want your doll to look and what is practical for you to maintain.

    16. To be honest, I don't like painting body hair in a blushing, so if I was that face-up artist, I'd probably say I wouldn't paint body hair at all. It is not a question of appropriate or no, simply of personal liking or disliking in my opinion. I think there is no inappropriate part of the human body.

I blush my dolls sometimes, and I rather like the outcome so far - despite the chipping that occurs or will occur eventually. Since I blush them myself, I could always simply redo the exact same blushing.

I think if you like you dolls realistically blushed, then you should go for it. Just find an artist that feels compfortable with it.

    17. Mostly I like all kinds of body blushing, and I think the only way it bothers me is if it somehow seems to detract from the doll's overall aesthetic (and then I realize that is a very subjective thing).

I will say though, I once stumbled upon some company pictures of a doll whose bottom had been so enthusiastically blushed that all I could think was that someone had spanked her. a lot. I know some people go much further with their blushing, and adding bruises and such is not uncommon, but because this effect looked unintentional, it seemed kind of silly and made me a little embarrassed.

    18. Body blushing is obviously a personal choice. I, myself, don't care for it. I tend to handle my dolls quiet a bit and the blushing rubs off, so it's kind of a waste of money for me. And I like that my dolls look like dolls.

    19. I agree with Dark Angel. It's a personal choice. I have seen some really cool blushing done, don't get me wrong. But I generally don't on my dolls (save for fantasy parts). The rubbing/off chipping always kept me from bothering with it.

    20. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?

IMHO it's the old song: It's your doll, do as you want with it. If the artist you selected doesent want to do the job you can A. accept the job she does and live with it, or B. search for another artist.
I doe my face ups and body blushed myselve. I'm no where professional and I'm still experimenting. And I'm a very shy female that only owns male dolls. You can imagen, that it was a very tens moment when I first blushed one of my dolls privet parts.
I must confess, that I haven't redone nor done the body blush of the others yet, but that is one of my personal issues with my hobby.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?

It depends on your view of esthetics. Some people like their dolls unpainted, compleatly nued of collor. Some only like them with face ups. Others clothe their dolls compleatly and don't see the merit in having a full body blush. Whatever you like is correct.
IMO and having seen the difference between a full body blush and a only partially blushed boby ( have both at home) I must say I prefer the full thing. It'S much more.... comleat. Putting all three boys together nacked would be like seeing 2 uncompleated artworks, for witch I have no time at the moment.
      That would be very frustrating.

So summing up, go ahead, do as you wish, but respect the others confort zone. Not everyone thinks the same, or is able/wants to cross lines the have not done jet. If you are not able to do it yourself, search for someone who share your vision. Don't push, please.

I wish you luck with your doll.
