Can Body Blushing Go Too Far?

Oct 30, 2011

    1. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?

No! I find it strange that your artist woudn't paint "that" part. I respect the artist's feelings, however I wouldn't have thought twice about your request.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?

I think it can enhance the beauty and value of a doll. I don't have full body blush on any of my dolls, because I don't have the time and don't see the point for my purposes. I like them the way they are at the moment. But I think full body blushing is very beautiful to look at and would consider it in the future.

    2. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed? Blush away, I say.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD? Nicely blushed bodies are gorgeous and enhances everything. Mine aren't blushed though, because they are fully clothed. If I had a doll that showed a decent amount of resin 'skin', I'd certainly blush it.

    3. In advance, let me tell you, that I don't think that in a hobby which involves art and luxury objects anything could be done that is essentially..."wrong". We are doing it for our own enjoyement, and what a person wants or expects from this hobby is entirely their business - others may want to do/see other things, but that doesn't make either of their decisions wrong.

In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed? I definitely don't think so. Many people do and love full body blushing (along with realistic private parts...some even apply real bodyhair instead of painting it), or even more involved body painting-enhancing menthods. I can imagine some body modifications that some people may find distasteful/offending/whatever floats their boat, but it's their own business. You can do anything you want with your doll.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?

I personally dislike body blushing on dolls - they add some realistic details, and I appreciate a well done blushing on pictures. However they get chipped and destroyed so fast, and I find the result quite unsightly. If I never moved and clothed my dolls at all, I'd consider body blushing, but I like playing with them.

However this is just my personal preference. My dolls are not blushed, but if someone comes over with their freshly blushed doll, I'll appreciate the beauty (less so if the blushing is already worn...but I'll keep that to myself). So while I personally would not find a fully blushed doll more valuable, I understand that many people do ;)

    4. It's been done before, mostly on the EID guys. Not my cup of tea, but yeah, everyone does whatever they want with their dolls. If you want to dye him purple with silver chest hair, go for it. It's your money and your time.

    5. Can body blushing go too far? No, I don't think so. We as collectors are trying to make these dolls into some version of perfect or beautiful. And on some level a certain amount of realism must be achieved.

The body has natural contour, tone difference, hair... If what you want is fully blushed including the privates then that's fine. Seeing the artistic nude photos, I appreciate when an owner takes time to enhance that area. I'd think that a doll fully blushed sans privates would look funny. If you're going to go all the way, really go all the way.

    6. I prefer no blushing, personally.

    7. I've some body blushing that just don't really work for me, to redish that it looks like a sun burn, u-hu just a big no.

    8. I think there's no blushing that goes too far, maybe it's just done wrongly/not to your taste.

However it's probably a pain to maintain it, so...

    9. Blushing is purely a matter of preference and personal taste. I usually give my girls manicures and/or nipple blushes and that's about it. I've tried full-body blushing but either I don't have the talent for it or I'm too heavy-handed, because the doll in question (Megumi) just ended up looking sunburned. I took it all off except for her nipples and gave it over as a bad job.

    10. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?

No, I don't think it's wrong. It all depends on an owner's taste. As long as the owner likes it, then that's all it matters. As for me, I prefer to leave my doll as is. I mostly buy a doll because I love how she looks, and I don't want to change that. But I know there are people who prefer to make their doll more life-like, and I respect that. So I don't think it's wrong. :)

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?

This would depend. As I would prefer not to change my doll, I would say it would take away her original beauty. But, I have seen dolls with full body blushing that make them even more beautiful than how they originally was. So I guess, it depends on the doll.

    11. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?
Well to answer the question, not at all. Of course the genitalia should be blushed as the rest of the body. And then, I must say that I think it's more odd that the artist declines from blushing the private areas of a doll... I mean, it's a doll!! Seriously... I can't see anything sexual in blushing dolls. I probably wouldn't blush the genitalia of a doll, but that's just an esthetic decicion, nothing to do with sexual interests etc.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?
Well if you don't like it, you can always take it off or ask the person selling the doll to remove it. But to have a nice bodyblush would cost extra, if it is not already done when you get the doll. So in my opinion it enhaces the value of the doll, just like a very well made custom face-up.

    12. For this discussion, I should leave you with your reason as to why you want to have a "full" body blushing. +Congrats also on finalizing what you want for your doll.

In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?
Not really. I already saw another artist do it to a fashion doll's genitalia, and it looks ok. Looks rather awkward or out of place since people buy dolls usually because of the face and to play dress up. It would be off-putting to other people, of course, including me.

On practicality, I won't even blush it there since it will just chafe/chip off too quickly. + human dolls usually are clothed. It would be a waste of money for something so darn temporary.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?
Blushing really does make a doll more volumetric. But I'm pretty sure one would want to blush in skin tone and not pink/red. A light powdering of pink is fine on the cheeks, nose, ears, finders, and toes; but it looks painful on joints. Overdoing red will give the doll a fever. XD

If I were ever to blush all the parts, I would also choose to dress him/her with less. It's a shame not to flaunt all that workmanship.

    13. It depends on how well it is done. I received a doll that I ordered that was used, and the person had done way too much blushing. Her face looked clown-like! And on top of that, the blushing made her legs and rest of her body have a rough texture to it. So, in my opinion, I kind of prefer minimal blushing, if any at all, on the body.

    14. Wow this is a lot to consider so glad everyone shared their opinions. i stuck to my arties because her face up work is impeccable and I ended up not buy the doll that i wanted body blushing on. If that situation does come up again i will have to find someone else who does not see it as inappropriate to paint/brish the pubic area of the doll.

    15. I can understand that an artist would decline to blush dolly genitals.
And they have the right to if they are uncomfortable with it.

Personally, I'm not bothered by it.
When I first got into the hobby I was kinda surprised by how much attention and detail some people gave to their dolls private region. But that quickly wore off and I get it now. Some people like photo realism on their dolls. And honestly, nudity is nothing to be ashamed of. I think some people get offended because they think of dolls as children's toys. But they probably wouldn't say anything if they saw a painting of a naked woman with pubic hair and all that stuff. There is still some debate over weather or not people see these dolls as art. Most do, but not everyone does. I don't think it's possible for body blushing to go to far.
All you're really doing is giving color and a bit of detail to an area that's already sculpted.

Now maybe if you went as far to somehow paint on semen and vaginal fluid that would probably majorly freak me out! xD That would be way too far for me. But hey, I don't worry about what other people do to their dolls, and Ive seen beautiful blushing. It's just not something I really worry about for my own, lol.

    16. Personally...If it's gonna be an area that'll be covered up (IE: Genitals) then yeah...It can go a little too far.

But if it's something you wanna do then it's your doll but the artist does have a right to say if they don't want to do the genitals.

    17. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?

      Not at all.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?

It depends on how well done the blushing is. My general personal preference is no body blushing, but I own a doll that is beautifully blushed on every part of his body. The artist knew exactly what she was doing so the blushing is definitely an enhancement.

    18. I think it can go too far if they blush every single crevices than it doesn't look right to me imo but i mean if they just do the joint areas and some of the other areas i dont think its bad.

    19. Definitely everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I've seen one person body blush and sand so their doll looks really skinny, almost sickly, and I wasn't a huge fan of that.

    20. there is nothing wrong with it. But, to some one out side of the hobby it can seem to far. Painting a doll's junk can feel awkward if you don't understand the hobby to much. Some people really don't even like their dolls plushed. But I think it gives them more character to the doll. But there is nothing wrong with it.
When I first blushed my apollo I felt awkward. But then I soon got over it.
