Can Body Blushing Go Too Far?

Oct 30, 2011

    1. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?

if the customer is paying, i feel the artist should comply. unless the artist is stating that their abilities are limited. i don't feel the artist's personal issues should be at play at all.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?

That depends on your audience. like any work of art, the value depends on who is buying it. supply and demand. if you have someone who loves BJD's the way most of them come, they would not want your body blushed doll. if you had someone who was more artistic and into photography and fine arts, you would have someone willing to pay top dollar. i plan on making one of my dolls african decent and because i bought them for photography, i am totally going to add genital blushing/hair and making the breasts realistic ect. it is all subjective.

    2. A personal preference surely which is why it is usually optional! I like a lovely body blushing which helps to create more dimension and would assume privates would be included in a full body blush. I do not like body blushing in situations where the blushing actually draws my attention away from the features and body lines of the sculpt; where it is too stark or drastic. I even enjoy the look of plain resin especially WS which looks like fine china to me. We all have privates and I fail to see why adding a bit of blushing to the area would be considered a big deal..?? I just don't get this part at all or did I misunderstand the original post??

    3. I saw a Fenrir Greyback who was awesomely done...complete with flocking and full blushing. I don't like the dolls that are blushed in "strange" colors like deep brown or anything like that but that's really my personal preference...I would never buy a doll like that but who am I to say you should? I have had blushed dolls before and as someone who changes her doll's clothes daily, it's really impractical for me.

    4. Like others have commented; I think it's a personal preference. It is not really something I've thought about since the appeal of the doll to me is generally the face sculpt. However, if I was purchasing a doll through MP or via an individual owner; how well done the blushing is could be an issue. If the work looks like a natural part of the doll than I wouldn't hesitate; however, if it's something that immediately catches my eye and looks odd/out of place/etc. then I would think a bit more about getting the doll.

    5. It's clearly the doll owner's individual choice. Nothing is "right" or "wrong". It IS their doll, after all- not mine.

Sorry, I'm not sure what exactly "FULL" entails. Detailing in particular the genitals? This just seems to be a really 'cloak and dagger' way of asking if it is somehow 'ok' to add details to the genitals of a doll. My answer remains the same as in part one: it's your doll, do what you want with it.

It's really no one's business but your own. If people are going to judge you... frankly.... who cares?

    6. I plan on blushing my little yosd size girl. She has a very child like body(obviously). I want it to be pretty well detailed. Does that make me a perv? No, I don't like to stare at naked children and I'm definitely not attracted to children bodies. She's a doll and I view her as just a "doll". The blushing is more for an artistic purpose. She'll be wearing clothes most of the time but the blushing in a way will bring her more to life and go better with her face up since she is very pale. I plan on doing the same for my new SD size girl who is very womanly and has a large bust. So I don't think blushing can ever go to far. Its all for artistic purposes so its best not to judge people for it, if people find it creepy well don't do it or don't look.

    7. In my opinion blushing depends wholly on the owner's preference. Personally I would not do pubic blushing on a doll simply because I would prefer not to highlight that area, but I think that each doll owner should be able to edit and mod their doll in any way they like.

    8. I really like the look of body blushing done well. I feel like it adds a huge sense of realism. I'm about to body blush my Narae and I will definitely do the genital area because that's what it looks like on real humans - I understand that some people are not as comfortable with the human form as I am but then again, nobody's really going to see it, so it doesn't matter.

    9. I don't really think it's wrong per se, in fact, I really love realistic body blushing! Although, I suppose, if you're asking an artist to do it for you, I can understand why they'd probably decline, as of course, they'd probably need reference pictures of some kind. That might lead to some uncomfortable situations potentially, like having someone walk in on them while they're blushing said bits or looking at reference pictures? Obviously, this wouldn't apply to all, as some people don't mind.

I think body blushing does enhance the "realism" of a doll though, if that makes sense. It definitely adds dimension to a doll in photos, and it adds life to a doll's body imo.

    10. I don't think its wrong to body blush all of you dolls parts because mostly all the time your doll will be clothed

    11. I don't think there's anything wrong with blushing private parts, but I can see how somebody could be uncomfortable doing it. Just like some people get a perverse pleasure in doing it.

    12. Why shouldn't the personal issues of the artist matter? Come on, they've gotta be comfortable with what they're doing, that's essential, if nothing else because I know from experience that if I agree to do something I'm not comfortable with I don't do a very good job and above all I don't feel I can stand for/be proud of it afterward.

      Anyway, for the original questions:

In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?
Of course not, they do have genitalia so why not? Although I can understand that there are artists that aren't comfortable with doing it, but I'm sure you can find one.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?
Personally I'm thinking the more detail the better, I always get impressed with people who have more detail on their dolls, really. As for value, I suppose any change you make might make the doll less desirable if you eventually decide to sell it, but on the other hand, if you've done it well I'm sure you can find someone who's willing to pay extra for it, so... well, it all depends, doesn't it.

    13. I personally wouldn't bother hiring anyone who's squeamish enough about the human body that they refuse to blush doll genitalia. It'd make me wonder how this 'artist' ever managed to get through their first life-drawing class! Artists who flinch, meh. It's their prerogative to flinch at life if they want, but I wouldn't pay anyone to work with one eye closed. :P I'd prefer to hire an artist who knows what the human body looks like & is able to approximate it on a doll's body. Fortunately, there are plenty of those around.

    14. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?
I honestly love it when people blush the entire doll. It gives them a beautiful realism. I'm probably going to blush all of my doll when I get him, it'll be a great way to see his entire sculpt and I'll have to tackle restringing, which in turn, will be great bonding. I don't think it's wrong to have the entire doll blushed, if the artist who scuplted them took the time to add in genitalia, why not add color to it as well?

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?
I think it enhances the doll greatly. It adds depth and tone to the body sculpt, and makes it more interesting. It also adds the owner's own touch if they did it themselves.
If you had to sell your doll, and your blushing was well done, I'd say, yeah, it'd increase the value ^^

    15. Sometimes Yes <3

    16. I am a big fan of full body blushing. I blush all my dolls with special attention to hands and feet (yes, feet, although they are rarely seen). In fact, I can't help experiencing a cognitive dissonance every time I see a doll with a spectacular detailed faceup and an unblushed body. It looks like a living head on a dead person to me. So, I guess answering the TC's question: in my opinion, most of the times it doesn't go far enough.

    17. I will say that seeing blushed hair on dolls' naughty bits makes me feel a little uncomfortable (be it male or female), but to each their own. I don't think it's wrong to do it, I just wouldn't do it to one of mine, mostly because I don't see much of a point in it. I don't do nude photoshoots of my dolls, (and again, not saying I think it's wrong, just that I don't do it) so such a detail wouldn't really matter to me because it wouldn't be seen in my photos.

    18. This is one of those things that are up to the doll owner. Some people like a more childlike body, even if it's an adult doll, because that much realism bothers them. Others find it only enhances their doll, but everyone has their own views on their doll's beauty and what makes them so, which is one reason the hobby is so varied and interesting :)

    19. nnnnnnnnnnnnnno.

I think it's fine to have a doll blushed in whichever way an owner sees fit. I've seen people do amazing full body blushing with equally amazing detail, so yeah... uvu I think it's really wonderful... rather than offensive or anything...

    20. Do what you want with your doll for sure..... But for ME that's totally icky. And it seems unnecessary unless you're going to take what I would call unwholesome photographs. Really - how could you justify needing/wanting that unless you were photographing it. Yuckies.....
