Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Can Body Blushing Go Too Far?

Oct 30, 2011

    1. It would depend...I can appreciate it if it's done well but personally I couldn't do that to my dolls...It just would feel weird given one of them's usually considered for a child sculpt...Maybe that's where I'd draw the line is small dolls usually seen as children...We don't need those details on child bodies do we?

    2. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?

Absolutely not. I find fully blushed dolls to look beautiful and more natural. I think leaving those parts out while the rest is blushed would look strange IMO. I really find nothing wrong or gross or awkward about the human body. I equally don't find anything about sculptures that mimic the human body to be awkward or embarrassing.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?

Personally I think it can either enhance or take away from the beauty depending on how it is done. I don't see why it would take away from value, since it can be removed.

    3. In your opinion,is it wrong to have ALL parts of your doll blushed?
No, and I think it's silly attempt to impose morality on this kind of thing. There's nothing wrong with bodies, real or resin; everyone has one after all. And keep in mind, feeling overly-conscious about something has to do with personality, upbringing, etc and has nothing to do with something being 'wrong' or 'right'. Morality isn't about our individual comfort levels. I fully get that not everyone is comfortable with bodies, and that's fine. Saying it's wrong to be ok with them or to appreciate them is something else entirely.

Do you think that FULL body blushing enhances, or can take away from, the beauty/value of your BJD?
If it's done well, it definitely enhances both beauty and value. I say this as someone who blushes her own dolls, some one-offs, and takes commissions. It's massively time-consuming and difficult work, so I'm always willing to give more for a doll that has been well and completely customized.

    4. I have to say one thing about the issue of affecting "value"... it really can't affect the value since it can be 'removed' so easily. If it's value as it seems then it's no different than a face up by a particular artist... the value isn't in the paint on the doll but who did it and/or how well. I suppose what I said makes little sense to most >< sorry I suck at expressing my ideas sometimes -_-

    5. I think sometimes the full body blushing is done badly, as in the doll looks more sunburned then real. It can be pretty hard though when you're trying to blush a head to match a body or vice versa so I'm not that inclined to be very judgmental about it. As for genital blushing I don't care. Someone can paint pubic hair on an adult looking doll, flock it's pubes, make it a merkin, whatever and it wouldn't make me even blink, laugh maybe, but not blink. I'm not crazy about exaggerated genital blushing or painted public hair on kid dolls though. I find that a bit creepy.

    6. If it looks right on the doll, then it fits them

    7. I don't think blushing even the more private areas of a doll is "wrong." It would only make a doll look more natural in outfit-lacking photos.
I personally like moderate natural blushing, since it makes a doll look more realistic, but am also fine with dolls who aren't blushed, sine they're usually wearing clothing anyway. Blushing CAN be overdone, and in my opinion, it's not pretty when a doll's blushing make her look as if she has very bad sunburns, such as the vmf50 Sayo: http://www.dollghters.org/photos/photoimages/sayo/20120410/000.jpg
A previous owner removed most of the overdone look of the blush on my Sayo body, but the parts that owner skipped look fake-y. :/

    8. It can go "too far" according to my opinion, but as long as the dolls owner likes it and is happy with it, it's never "too far". :)

    9. I think it's fine. I only have one doll that's totally blushed, but that's because I'm lazy and don't want to spend the money on it, not because I see anything wrong with blushing. People can do whatever makes them happy. Blushing can be really nice.

    10. Yes and no...
I have one doll with a full body blush. I love it. However, I hardly touch him for fear of it chipping or getting scratched.
So I think it looks great...but it's such a pain. I always freak out when anyone gets close to him..."DON TOUCH HIM" I shout...poor friends\family. Most know by now. The other ones they can touch.
