1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Cats and box openings

Feb 16, 2015

    1. I have a cat, but mine hates boxes. He will sit and stare at it and then walk away to sit on a pillow.

    2. I have three cats and none of them are really interested in my dolls. One of them gets sort of inquisitive if I'm taking a photo or three, but that's about it.
I can almost hear him saying, umm hello there, take my photo please!

Box openings, that's another story. I can almost hear them squeeeing... OMG BOXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But you can be opening anything, if it's in a box, no matter how small, a cat will fit in it ... somehow.

    3. I don't really know if there's any connection between cats and BJD ownership beyond that (at least in the US) cats are the most common pet, and that cats are magnetically drawn to boxes, which by definition will typically appear in a box opening. ;) I know mine loves to photobomb my openings; one in particular, he's in the background of almost every shot, since he immediately settled into the box the moment the doll was out.

Overall, my boy's extremely well behaved around my dolls. For as much as he gets into everything else, he stays off their shelves, has never chewed on any of them or their clothes/wigs, and for the most part leaves them alone, though when they enter "his" space he'll get curious. However, he's never done anything to harm them, though he's curled up next to some on the couch to nap with them, and even investigated standing ones without knocking them off-balance:

(I had more issues with standing when the cat was in another room than at this point when he was wandering around in the middle of the shoot.)

    4. I have birds, hamsters, gerbils, a guinea pig and a degu - just about everything but cats and dogs. They're usually not inteested in box openings, but Zaphod, the degu, is polite about introducing himself to new arrivals. At least I think a furry nose in the face is a polite greeting in degu terms.

    5. My cat likes boxes but he tends to ignore the dolls. Sometimes though he'll appear while I'm trying to snap pictures but he's often not in the shots. My dog lives outdoors in a fence but she's inside right now due to the weather.

    6. I don't have a cat anymore. But I do have a dog and I don't let her near my dolls. I have to keep everything in the house put up, she'll eat anything. Also cats love boxes, so I think that's why.

    7. My latest photobomber waiting on a box that is wayyyyy to little for him.

    8. @LadyMadrigal AWW! I'm in love with your Degu :aheartbea

My gerbil, Jasper, has had a tendency to chew the Pullips if I let him sniff their hands. So he's not going near the BJD, haha.

My cat, Dinah, loves to 'adopt' every single box that comes into the house. She doesn't care about the contents, she just likes to sit in the box :) I let her have the shipper that YoYo came in.

    9. I think my cat might be the exception to the rule. He doesn't like boxes! He briefly hopped into a box once during a box opening and that was it. He's more of a "sit on top of things cat". He likes to be up high. And he will cuddle with/flop on dolls if I leave them sitting on the couch or bed.

But out he's really good with my dolls! He's never once tried to chew on them or their wigs. I leave the door to my doll/craft room open all the time and don't have to worry about him causing trouble at all. He's such a good kitty <3

    10. We have two cats, and they love doll boxes and doll carriers.
Boy kitty Sergei especially loves to get into doll carrier bags. You can zip him up inside and he doesn't care. If I set up a table top photo shoot he loves to lay down under all the warm lighting, he'll nudge the dolls out of the way if he has to.

The only damage issues we've had:

      1. Sergei biting a doll's toe.
      2. Sergei stole a wig off of a doll's head.
2a. Girl kitty Kelly found Sergei's stolen wig, so she took it under the bed and bathed it until it was a dread lock.
      3. Sergei sometimes likes to sleep on his favorite doll (Etienne, the CH Chowon) and leaves fur behind.

But day to day, there really aren't any problems. We just keep the dolls up and out of the way as best we can.

    11. My cat, Milly, is fairly indifferent (as she is to most things!) to boxes. I have all of my dolls 'out and about' though and she's extremely gentle around them. Occasionally a fur wig might score a little bit of extra attention, but as a general rule she tiptoes around them and simply views them as part of 'her' furniture.

If, however, I take them outside for photos then it doesn't matter if I haven't seen her for hours as there'll she suddenly be...

      ... Helping. :)

For me, cat+box=meh. On the other hand though, camera+doll=cat!

    12. I have two cats - I trust them around my doll because they're generally well-behaved but I probably shouldn't. Once I had her sitting on the edge of my desk while I was on the computer and out of the corner of my eye a little paw came up and YOINK! down she went. I also think the little one tried to chew on her, because there's a dent in the top and bottom of her right foot. Been meaning to try and boil it out but it doesn't really bother me I guess.

Wig materials, however, appear to be fair game. They've ripped open ziplocks full of mohair and tibetan lamb fur on more than one occasion, so now I keep them in tupperwares instead. Try to imagine coming home to see cheerful bits of red and purple fluff strewn everywhere like some sort of muppet massacre. :|

    13. Thanks everyone for their replies. I have a better view on the subject now. Since I don't have a cat it I was curious to understand how they interact with bjds.

    14. I love cats, but I have a dog. She photobombed my box opening video, but she actually hates boxes. She sneaks her way into almost all of my videos though. She's very nice to my princesses so she doesn't have to be kept away from any particular area.

    15. I have three cats, Muffin (rough naming period), Watson, and Sherlock. Watson is officially mine, but the other two like my sister more than me! :-(
They all love boxes, and I feel the need to point out that it's not just "if it fits, I sits," its actually more like "if it fits, I sits. If it don't fits, I still sits." I got a tiny ring box for christmas and Muffin put all of her that could fit in it (front two paws) into the box and sat down. It didn't seem too comfortable, but she sat there for at least half the day anyway.
They never approach my dolls--I think they think that the dolls are creepy. Cocoa (older cat who has since passed away) used to pee on all of my good dressmaking fabrics.

    16. I have cats, five to be precise, but they're usually well behaved.
They do like wigs but if for example I take out a wigless doll they're totally uninterested.
Once I catched one of them munching on my doll parts unstrung on the table, but thankfully she didn't swallow it and her teeth aren't strong enough to actually leave marks on it. XD

    17. My kitty loved boxes and anything new that appeared in the house. Even a scrap of paper was considered a potential napping place.

    18. Worst I've ever had is my kitty playing with a wig. It is fluffy and the size of a cat toy, so she was forgiven. Once I put my dolly stuff in better containers, I haven't had a problem since.

    19. I have a feeling there'll be a cat or two in my next box opening. xD They love boxes, especially my little guy.

    20. My cat is introvert and it's doesn't like strangers, but it's always friendly meet postman, because he (or she) brings boxes)) Like other cats it's crazy about boxes and always try to get inside and make some bed.
