Cats and box openings

Feb 16, 2015

    1. I used to have my dolls on a computer desk in the living room. My cat would ocassionally knock them over, but they were always sitting, so no one was ever damaged. She loved to lay up against my big 70cm boy. She would lay against the length of his legs, and it was so cute. She never clawed at them, or tried to knock them off the desk, or punch them in the face, so it was never a huge deal. When she grew an affinity for slapping them around (she liked to hit my white tiger girl in the chest to knock her backwards, I have no idea why), I moved them so that she couldn't get at them anymore. The dogs do some sniffing during box openings, but otherwise they don't care about the dolls at all. Once they realize it's not food, any and all interest disintegrates.

I have a pretty liberal view of everything involving animals. Animals are my first love. I have 8. They don't run the roost or anything, but I like having them around, so they really aren't excluded from anything I do unless it's dangerous/hazardous to their health. I can fix the face-up on a doll, but I'll never be able to rewind time so that I can spend more of it with my furkids. :)

    2. This really doesn't surprise me XD I have three cats, and one of which will try to put his butt in any kind of box. I recently got a new gaming mouse for my computer and the box was maybe 6x6 and he tried to fit into it. I've watched quite a few unboxing videos on youtube and the like-- and anytime a cat is involved I grin. I bet they can be a pest for some people but I really like seeing how curious they are about what's coming out of the box (and then hoping the box can be theirs of course). :3

    3. One of my cats likes to "ticket punch" the doll furniture (and other wood furniture) with her teeth, and the other is a scratcher. Our two dogs have (between them) eaten a reclining sofa and loveseat set, numerous pairs of shoes, socks, pants, and other clothing, two bookcases, several dining room chairs (heavy antique wood with leather upholstery), dozens of books and DVD's, a couple of flashlights, TWO volt meters (my partner finally stopped leaving them on the kitchen counters after the second one), a Kindle, a paycheck's worth of dog toys and beds, two walls, part of our back deck...

Yeah. Our animals don't get to go near the dolls. I don't take chances. It would take one of the dogs only seconds to completely destroy a doll.

    4. My cats are always super interested in whatever I do, particularly if it involves something new and exciting. Putting together new furniture, unpacking groceries, opening packages... they're just super curious little buggers. Add that to the fact that they love boxes and it's hard to NOT include them in your box opening photos.

I have a bookshelf in my living room where I have my dolls, and they all sit on the top few shelves, way out of the reach of curious kitties. Two of my cats would leave them alone anyway, but my kitten has a thing for stealing wigs, so we have to keep them out of her reach.

    5. I got my cat this January, and I've been collecting dolls since before I got my cat. She's a ragdoll so she's quite calm and doesn't really go near my dolls. She only likes to steal their fur wigs if I take them down from the shelves, because aparantly furwigs are the best toy ever! -w-''
I do fear that she'll be all over the doll box, the next time I get a doll.. Ahaha x'D

But I'm not scared of anything with her and my dolls, because she has learned that they aren't playthings as well as the table being off limits. She's a smart kitty ^^ <3

    6. I don't have a cat right now but when living with my parents I have six of them, two of them were my dictated cats...

I honestly wouldn't doubt if there was something about it!

    7. I have 2 kitties both are pretty curious one is lazy. My boy cat is usually front and center when a package arrives never got him in the box for a box opening though it's like he knows we have cameras around and waits till later.
My dolls are located in the living room on a side table sitting on a doll bed. I pretty much told my cats that area was off limits and they obeyed. I did catch my fuzzy boy sniffing my 2 luts dolls on different occasions after they arrived might of been wondering what the smell was, he was never tempted to bite or touch the dolls though.
My girl cat likes when i make beaded things for dolls she likes sparkles i guess she's usually fixated on the beads and rhinestones when i work.

    8. I have one cat who is very well behaved, and a kitten that's.... not. Either way, my cats go no where near my dollies unless supervised by moi. :)

    9. Here's a kitty box opening picture. :kitty2

    10. I used to have a devil of a time posing my Dal because for some reason she was irresistible to my cat! I'd stand her up, which took work!, and the moment I retreated behind the camera he'd go right for her legs. He is also very interested every time I'm working on anything crafty. My dog couldn't care less. :XD:

    11. I have two cats and a Pomeranian, usually it's my pom who is all curious about the boxes and dolls and the cats will occasionally wander over to investigate.

    12. No cats here! I have a dog. I'm lucky that he doesn't like hard toys, only plush ones--it means that after a quick sniff, he leaves my dolls and things alone.

    13. I like cats, and the whole cat-in-box thing is cute, but honestly all I can think about when I see those pictures is how much cat hair there must be all over the place. I am also not allergic to cats, but another thing I consider is how many people are, and how much more difficult it would be if that person wanted to sell the doll down the line, lol...

    14. I never thought about there being a connection but with me there is for sure. I have two kitties! But I keep my BJD's in a walk-in closet so the kitties don't get them. I have one very curious kitty that started sniffing my minifee when I put her on a shelf in the living room and that quickly let me know that I shouldn't leave my BJD's out. My girl kitty is a very curious one and I could see her knocking my minifee down if I turn my back. As to boxes, yep kitties love boxes!!! My Mokashura arrived last week and as soon as I started to open the box my girl kitty was right up there next to me!

    15. My cat was crazy with boxes! But I also tried to put my doll close to her once, she was ok with it though.

    16. When I lived with my parents, they had three cats and while they were curious about the dolls, never once did I have to worry about them chewing on or otherwise damaging the dolls. The oldest would rub his cheek on one of the crew but otherwise nobody bothered them. The cats were more interested in my cosplaying stuff - if I left even a tiny bit of fabric laying around, one or all three would be laying on it! It's not a cosplay if it's not covered in cat hair...

    17. I have three cats. My dolls are usually kept on a shelf out of reach. I trust my two older cats not to destroy the dolls (although I don't trust one of them not to knock over a doll for fun) but we've only had our youngest for about six months, so I don't know him well enough to know what he'll do if I leave my dolls around him unsupervised. When I do bring my dolls down, they're a little interested at first and want to give them a sniff, but they quickly lose interest. My cats are really interested in fur wigs though. I haven't had a wig stolen or destroyed yet, but once one of them left spit droplets in a wig after intensely smelling it using their Jacobson's organ.
That was gross. xD And of course, boxes! I love getting decent sized boxes in the mail so my cats have some new boxes to enjoy. ^^

    18. I'm 100% a dog person but I wouldn't mind a cat in the future if I wasn't so damn allergic. My dog loves my dolls so much...sometimes I think he's even more into BJD than I am. I try to keep him away from my dolls though, wouldn't want him licking them or smudging them with his nose. So far so good, no accidents yet. *holds wood*

    19. I am living with a cat, however I am not her owner. She does occasionally come up to my dolls and sniffle them a bit and once she knocked over my ABS doll (and cracked his eyeball... grr...) but overall she doesn't seem too interested in them.

    20. I have one cat and he absolutely does not care about boxes or my dolls, haha.
The most he ever did was come over and quietly sit down next to my boys when I was taking a picture of them near one of his sleeping spots like "Excuse me. I believe you are blocking my bed .,. I'll just ... wait here." and that was it.
