1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Celebrities and BJDs: Good Publicity or Bad Publicity, or It Depends?

Jun 1, 2010

    1. It would depend on which celebrity and how they are perceived and what they do with their doll. If they were legitimately into bjds fine but if it was just someone trying to get attention then no. I would prefer bjds not to become a fad because of some celeb carrying one around. It would be very annoying when people assume that we are just following a fashion by having one. With hobbies I'm quite happy not being mainstream.

    2. I guess I would not care at all what they were doing. If they were carrying around a BJD all of the sudden and then that became the rage of Hollywood, so be it. I am sure many celebrities do have their collections of sorts. After all they are people just like us. It wouldn't bother me at all because, I have chosen to love the dolls for my own personal reasons, not because of what the celebrities are doing. I can see many sides to this though. Its just my personality to not care too much about celebrities and their stuff as it applies to me.

    3. You don't think that's the least bit ridiculous? I mean selling a doll simply because a celebrity you didn't particularly like happened to have one.

    4. To be honest, I discovered BJDs because Doe Deere (CEO of LimeCrime) featured the work of an American doll maker on her instagram, and after a little research I discovered the amazing world of Asian ball jointed dolls. I only wish I had known about them sooner!

    5. I think it would be great for exactly the reasons why others think it might be not so great. If celebrities or public figures had dolls they might be considered a more culturally "normal" past time and then there would be less negative stigmas attached. Dolls would no longer be creepy or weird and would just be. It would be exactly the same as how anime has gotten more normal (at least here in the US). Maybe more artists would be encouraged to make dolls and then we would get new and exciting sculpts. They could even go the fine art route and there could be galleries/exhibitions for them. Maybe someday it could even be a college major! Imagine majoring in Dolls! Very exciting. I can see a whole avalanche of potential.

Plus if a celebrity had a doll it would probably make me follow them more. I'm a sucker for cute doll pictures.

    6. actually, i agree with several people so far: its none of my business if a celeb gets a doll. I mean, yes, it could get very annoying depending on who the celebrity is and people's reactions to the doll and how they introduce it to the media, but i've got a feeling one or two celebs probably HAVE bjds and dont disclose it to the press, i mean, aside from when they would show off their houses on cribs, how many of us know EXACTLY what celebrities own?
I'd probably get irritated if there were people who didnt take care of their dolls crashing doll meets and such just cause bjds were seen with some airheaded celebrity thats popular. (some celebrities tho, i might be tempted to sell all my dolls if they were seen with one e.e; i.e. justin beiber) and to answer someone's question: no, i dont think thats a bit extreme personally. this reaction is generally because then it would make the person feel sick every time they looked at a doll that once made them happy. I have been contemplating selling one of my girls because I had a giant fight with the person who gave it to me and now it makes me sad every time i look at her (the guy has been refusing to speak to me for months over i dont even know what the stupid fight was anymore :( )

    7. I don't care about celebs that much, so I also don't care about either publicity. Mostly with this stuff it's the media just jumping on everything, anyway. So why care? ^^
