Cerberus Project Sebastion from Black Butler- Only in Japan!

Apr 15, 2011

    1. He's 92,000 yen according to the Fairyland website.

The more I look at him, the more I like him. I really don't like the IoS sculpt, it doesn't really look like Sebastian at all to me. The Fairyland sculpt pretty much nails the anime character design. I wish I liked Sebastian enough to try and get one. If ever Grell is released, it will be on like Donkey Kong here. I wonder if they would go for any other properties. I still want official Sengoku Basara BJDs.

The special body is interesting, the legs seem longer than the other Feeple65 body, though I guess the stockiness of Roke could be a bit of an optical trick.

    2. Wow, hats off to Fairyland! He's fabulous from his smirk down to his dapper leather toes! :D Sure looks just like anime-Sebastian to me. Everybody's got their own mental picture of how a flat drawing would translate into a 3D face, and this guy looks about right. Teh Ultimo Action Figure. With all the baubles & buttons & clothes & accessories in all the right places.

He does kinda have Shiwoo's smirk. ^^ Good job.

    3. I have to say that outfit is..just WOW. Fortunately he isn't a must have for me either. I'm hoping they DON'T do Grell or I might have to do in some relatives around here for the insurance money.

    4. I was so set on getting IoS Osiris, now I have to reconsider. I'm not sure if I like this version that much.... he looks great, but I wish he looked more mature and.... seductive :aheartbea

    5. Just started watched Black Butler. For a 3D representation of the anime version I think he's pretty spot on. Mischevious twinkle in the eye included. :) I always wonder how much leeway the merch artists gets with an official licensed product. The licensor may have some say in design. Depends on the contract. Hm, US$1107. Well, I'm tapped this year even if he were available outside Japan, though I can't help wonder who I may know who could get me one. :)

As for only being in Japan, it may be less about two different companies having the manga and anime rights in the US and more about what merchandise rights were negotiated with FL. Black Butler is surely in other countries outside Japan, yet the doll isn't available there either. I wish we'd get something like that in the States. Alas, I don't see FUNi contracting a top-notch doll maker for any kind of figure for a property like BB.

Oh, Kim, from your lips to God's ears on those Sengoku Basara dolls!!

    6. Cosign all of that. I can't remember seeing any actual licensed character dolls that (a) weren't by Volks and (b) weren't girls from mecha series. This is, um, this is, pretty much kinda awesome.
*ability to form coherent sentences lost, gonnz go stare at the pix some more now*

    7. I hear you on that! =) Grell... Seriously, the outfit would be the big draw on Baz here for me too. I have spent months putting together a tuxedo set I think is even passable for dollie cosplay, but this one has the lapel pin AND the watch AND gloves that fit...and an apron too! *sigh*( he needs a handful of silverware though...) Don't imagine anyone who got one would be willing to split, you'd want the whole set for sure. (Gonna go swoon some more now.)

    8. [deleting unintended repeat swoon.]

    9. Not that I can afford him at the moment (and I way prefer Grell too) but would he be buy able through a company like Celga?

    10. wow so exactly like the anime version !! even his poses ! true he looks like a DD more than a SD kinda doll
but I love his mouth , I dont know why others dont, he even shows teeth >w<:aheartbea

    11. I don't keep close track of the DDs but.... Volks had the license for Chii from Chobits which is not a mecha series (and was extremely popular in Japan), Rozen Maiden isn't a mecha series and also super popular, and did that Maki Tsuyoshi, from I forget which series. (weren't they ever going to do his partner?) And they have those two new characters dolls for the upcoming Dolpa in 2 weeks. I'd more say that Volks tends to do characters from Shounen series which have strong male followings (other than Maki) while Sebastian is clearly aimed at the female fan demographic.

It probably doesn't hurt to ask if you want him?

I.. think I would about die if there was a Sanada Yukimura doll based on Basara. I would even break my no new big doll rule. ;;_;; (and I would need to get him a Date too >>; ) The only thing I would want even more is official Suzaku and Lelouch dolls, but Geass is now super old in Japan so I don't see that happening vs. Basara is getting some OT dolls just like Black Butler did previously.

    12. Wow, I think this is the first time a fairyland doll doesn't do it for me. It might be that I haven't seen the anime/manga... :/ Nice threads though.

    13. It definitely doesn't hurt to make bjds that are from anime/manga that are popular with girls, I donno, that definitely seems to make sense to me, call me crazy! ;) I suspect someone's going to step forward a la Volks to assist with interested international buyers, it seems like a logical progression.

      .hlp

    14. Maki Tsuyoshi is from Himitsu, which is a jousei manga and had an anime adaptation. A really, really weird jousei manga. They are also doing the male lead from GOSICK. It's interesting what series they end up doing characters from, I think a couple of them are obscure enough, like Maki, that I wonder if someone from Volks wasn't a huge fan and went for it anyway.

Kuroshitsuji definitely has a strong, very specific audience it aims for and panders to, and it's often pretty different from the series Volks usually chooses, though interestingly enough, it is technically a shounen series as it runs in the shounen magazine G Fantasy (which used to have Saiyuki before they pissed off Minekura Kazuya, so it's a more eccentric shounen mag than say Jump). Almost all of the Dollfie Dreams are from eroge and visual novels.

If he's just going to be available through the website, than I don't see why any of the shopping services like SMJ or Celga wouldn't buy him. I see an ad for Lawson's, which is the drug store chain most well known for its ticket sales. I can't read all of the particulars about how he will be available and in what quantity.

    15. Hmm okay, thanks for the information. I only knew about the Eva girls.

I love how many people have said "oo, since they're doing Sebastian maybe they'll do (other favorite Kuro character). Hope someone from the company is taking notes. =) --At the very least they ought to do Ciel in an MSD scale to go with Sebas-chan.

    16. So how can we get him? Thru a shopping agent? Which ones?

    17. I think Cerberus Project has made a great job bringing Sebastian to "life" plus, what I like the most about him is that when you look at him you know he's a CP doll and that's awesome! xD Actually his eyes remember me Breakaway's eyes :P

Cerberus Project are my favorite bjd sculptors ever so I'm really happy for them, I think this is a great step for their career.

    18. I am also saving for the release next month and will most definately be getting that outfit...the clothes are stunning!!!!

The CP one is nice but his face seems so young...I always picture Sebastian a little older, that is why I prefer the IOS sculpt.

    19. SexyBlackFire13 has done her own Ciel and Sebastian and Lizzie. Her Sebastian is a Luts SDF Frey, her Ciel is a KD Bory, and her Lizzie is a KD Kiwi. All three look perfect. I've only seen 5 episodes, and my friend Knibitz here has a Taeyang version of Sebastian, but for some reason, I want my own. I don't even know why as I barely know the character!
