So heres a question. kind of 2. does a doll having a Certificate saying its real/when it was made etc matter to you? if it does, why? I always thought I was 1 of those people that doesn't really care until a few days ago. I recieved my luts honey delf 21 from luts. and I love her! like a lot. But... her 'certificate of ownership' doesnt say shes a honey delf21 BonBon... that says shes a 'Royal Senior Delf BONBON' (which don't exist btw). Should I ask luts about this do you think ? or just laugh it off as something that makes her, as far as I know, unique O.o
I’d personally be curious why and also, depending on if the doll was or is made into a recast, proof of authenticity can be important to some buyers.
COAs became a really big deal when recasters came on the scene. If you ever decide to sell your lovely new doll, a COA is hugely important to a future buyer. I would contact Luts and let them know that you need a corrected COA - but also, I would keep that one. Cuz that's just funny. Royal Senior Delfs are 105 cm. That would be one massive honey delf. That is hilarious. I bought an Iplehouse Rexy secondhand, and even her COA says Bianca. It's only when I posted pictures of her in the big Iplehouse thread that everyone pointed out, "Um. That's not Bianca."
I have let luts know and sent a picture. It's annoying as I know shes direct from luts, but your right, my word isnt really worth anything in this place we call the internet. I doubt I would ever sell her, but I'm sure I said that about dolls I've now sold! I'm curious what luts will say tbh. and yes, I did and still find it quite funny. its not a 'little' mistake lol if it just said honey delf without the 21 thats an easy mistake... but.. royal senior? i doubt bonbon will EVER be made into that size lol kid delf or tiny delf maybe O.o
Personally I'll only accept a lack of documentation if it's a doll that's never been recast (neither of my girls came with papers, but their sculpts have also never fallen into the hands of counterfeiters, thankfully), but that's increasingly rare nowadays. Good on you for getting a corrected CoA
Most of my dolls do not have certificates because they are "too old" for that. I feel the buying history is the surest way to know if your doll is recast or not. Paypal and emails are a good way to archive buying history, it's harder for second hand dolls, but if you can prove you bought it directly from the company? the certificate is just an added bonus.
I mostly collect "old school" sculpts, so having certificates isn't necessarily all-important to me. Many older dolls never had CoAs in the first place. Fortunately, many have also never been recast, as someone else noted up-thread. Still, enough have that you need to be very aware of what you're buying if you collect in that space. Back-in-the-day, before recasting became a plague, things like CoAs were more of a curiosity than a necessity, so most companies didn't include them... and even when they did, the first owners may not have thought them important enough to keep. The hobby was sort-of a different world in those days.
There was a thread discussing this pretty recently actually. From what I can gather, most people dont MIND not having a COA as long as the seller can provide proof that the doll is legit. This can be done in a multitude of ways (certain features, receipt emails, contacting dealers, etc etc) and doesn't need to have a COA. COAs, in my opinion, are just extra proof and are fun and cute to have...but not a necessity.
The CoA matters to me. I've had a few instances when they have been forgotten and not placed in the dolls box so I keep the receipt instead. But, it just doesn't feel the same to me as having the CoA. When I buy second hand I want the CoA, if the company makes them included with the doll. I might take an original receipt instead, but only if the doll came with the original box. I wouldn't accept a copy of a CoA, why would the seller need to keep the original if they are selling the doll? I hope you can get the certificate mix-up fixed for you, if not keep the receipt with the CoA they sent you.
If the seller is splitting a doll to sell, the CoA usually stays with the head. Unfortunately most companies don't make separate coas for head/body when a full doll is bought.
If it's a split sure, the CoA should go with the head, but I've seen full dolls sold with only with the copy of the CoA, because owner wanted to keep it. If a person is selling the full doll, then they don't need to keep the CoA. Unless they plan on selling the 'same' doll again and again with another copy of the CoA, I just don't trust this.
The certificate is important as everyone said because of the existence of recasts but as you bought it from the company recently it's an honest mistake that can be easily corrected , they can send you the certificate as a letter and it won't be as expensive for them the shipping as if it was a parcel. Wish you to be resolved fast as it is a pity to not have a certificate just in case some day you will need to sell the doll. Now that I said it my soon certificates write the codes of order but no name of doll and the problem is I have 5 of them and I don't know which certificate goes with which doll especially for 2 dolls bought at the same time and have the same date as well.
An enemy Stand user?!?!?! But in any case, there's many ways to tell a doll is real. The COA is the easiest and most accepted though, for sure. I would take screenshots of your purchase receipt, any communication with Luts, and the interior of the head to capture any markings.
I have gotten some COA that were completely blank and others with wrong info, direct from the maker It makes the COA kind of useless. Yours turned out so funny though. Imagine coming home to your Royal Senior Bonbon dressed up like a handsome butler I would keep the messed up COA with her. It's legendary. Hopefully Luts sends you an accurate one. You should share them @Koma 's beautiful edit. I bet they will get a kick out of it. But yes, this is why I don't rely solely on COAs to prove authenticity, because I've been sent them screwed up more than once Nice to have though, especially for studios whose dolls are often faked.
I second that emotion. Most of My Crew are older and pre-COA, so I don't have any problems buying dolls without them. There are plenty of ways to prove that a doll is legit other than a COA. And from what I understand, COAs are becoming easy to fabricate by recasters, so its a moot point anyways. *shrug* Ryu
