1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Changing your mind because of owner pictures?

Feb 24, 2015

    1. owner pics always make up my mind on a doll.
even though company pics are lovely, you never really see the full potential of a doll untill youve seen some owner pics.
they can show just how beautiful or terrible a doll can look
and that is what makes me consider dolls.

    2. Yep, I'm awful at visualizing the potential of a sculpt without a faceup or with a faceup I dislike or find a bit plain. I've passed on dolls that I kind of liked (but not enough to buy) only to kick myself later when absolutely gorgeous repaints started appearing.

On the other hand, there are also dolls that look lovely in promo pictures but very strange (puffy faces, disproportionate nose profiles) from any other angle once owner photos appear.

    3. Yes.
First,I saw in lati doll. They didn't impress me, but when I received my first lati doll (sophie). He is so cuteeeee .

    4. More often than not I find myself falling in love with a sculpt after seeing owner pictures. It's harder to fall in love just based on one particular look that a company gives the doll.

Of course, it's happened the other way around as well, where I really liked company photos but after seeing owner photos I decided to pass. But I think owner photos have definitely cost me more money than they saved :XD:

    5. I definitely lack vision at times and have written a new release off straightaway in my head only to see a later owner photo, and a completely different doll that I adore once restyled - often with a different face-up. I think I would rather this, than buy and be disappointed. Although the secondary Market prices are often higher at least I see the actual doll I will receive and know that I will be totally happy with her/him.

    6. This happened to me A LOT!

I think the most significant one was with my first doll. When I saw BJD pictures at another forum I immediately knew that these dolls were for me, I checked several companies and all their dolls were cute in my eyes BUT none of them screamed at me 'BUY ME BUY ME'.

The first company I saw was Dream of Doll, I checked all their dolls and DOD U grabbed my attention a little bit but not enough for me to go crazy for. However, I found the blog of a BJD collector and she had the cutest doll I have ever seen! I was like "what doll is this?? I WANT IT! :aheartbea " I checked the profile and it was a Dream of Doll Zen...:o<-- that was my initial reaction because DOD Zen was the least one I liked when I checked the company for the first time and here I was going crazy for this sculpt thanks to the owner's photos! needless to say, I ordered my precious DOD Zen 2 months later and he has been my #1 since then.

Then, there are other times when I like the company's photos and then I see owner's pictures and I'm like "...nah."

This is the reason why I always search for owners' pictures before ordering a doll, I value more the owner's pictures than the company's pictures.

    7. Yes I love the company Pics that's what makes me want a particular doll but sometimes the owner pics make me think twice, especially after a repaint.

    8. I always look at owner pics before I purchase.
I fell in love with MNF Mirwen when I came across an owner picture.
It is always really hard for me to picture what the doll could look like just from the website pictures.

    9. Nope because I try and find the blank photo of the head and then deside if I like it.

    10. I saw pictures of Volks Elena on Flickr and fell in love with her. I never liked the company pictures of her. I loved the pictures of Fairyland Celine but I didn't like her when I bought her.

    11. I didn't like the style or photos of Maskcatdoll's Ronia, but after seeing owners' pictures of her, I immediately fell in love with her. I'd probably get her in a minute if I had the money :(

    12. Mnf mir... I didnt want to fall for him but gosh darnit owner pics killed me! I blame locutus & bulletsBANQ for making me love a sculpt I probably wouldn't have otherwise & I'm more than thrilled with my own mnf mir!

    13. When I ordered my very first doll, DC Lydia, I had only seen promo-pictures. And now, when many custom make-ups appear from owners, it make me sure that I did the right choice. She is just beautiful. By the way I'm still dollless, so other owners pics is only thing I could see... :(

    14. I pretty much know what I like and don't like. I really love Migidoll boys and have a huge soft spot for Ryu and Jina. I don't like Migidoll Cho. I never have. Something about him gave me the creeps. I really thought that Jina would be my first Migidoll boy.>.> However, while looking at owner pictures this other guy kept popping up in the search. I didn't know who he was but he was awesome. Thanks to tags by the owners I was led to believe that he was Migidoll Cho. The one Migidoll boy I couldn't stand. There was just no way that the super charismatic handsome beast of a doll I kept falling for was Cho. My mind refused to believe it. I kept going back to Migidoll's website just to confirm. I felt betrayed and really disappointed. The default face up doesn't do him any justice. I couldn't believe how amazing owners made him look. Within a month or so of this discovery I found a Migidoll Cho on the market for a good price. I had the money...and well he was my first SD doll. I still can't get over him. He's simply amazing and I regret that I had the mindset that he was ugly and never considered him. I would never have thought of adding him to my collection if it weren't for the those owners who showed me that he's so much more than his default faceup.

    15. This is actually the source of my newb-ish wishlist debate right now. I really love Doll Chateau dolls from the DC website, but then owner photos have confused how I feel about them...they seem lovely, but I'm no longer totally sure if they're quite what I want. :O (I think they might still be, but I'm hesitant.)
In the meantime, as some contributors have already pointed out: the Resinsoul/Bobobie dolls I thought I'd only buy if I had no other options (since the company photos are so silly) all have gorgeous owner photos...
So with that + a burst of inspiration about characters and styling for all of the above last night, I'm really confused about what I want, when. @_@ Aaaargh!

    16. This has happened to me more than once. A couple of years ago I was dead set on getting a Crobidoll Nia. I absolutely loved him in the promo pictures - he looked so cute, but unfortunately I didn't really like him as much when the owner pictures started showing up. I am now completely in love with a couple of the MiniFee girls, but this time around it is because of the owner pictures. I have never cared for the MiniFees until I recently discovered Chloe, Celine and Mirwen and realized what amazing sculpts they actually are. Now I use most of my time stalking other owners' dolls. I just can't get enough of them :D

    17. This has happened to me many times! and I'm very thankfull for owner pics. Thanks to them I cure myself from lot of DollZone molds.

    18. Definitely! I've often seen dolls that look great in company photo's, but turned out to look a lot less nice in owner's pictures. I always look for owner pics, as dolls usually look a lot different than the company pics.
But I also realize that I shouldn't focus too much on owner's pics. I've bought a doll from Fairyland that looked pretty good in the company pics, but I actually didn't like her as much anymore when I saw the owner pics! I was really worried about it, but once she arrived she looked a million times better than in the pictures :).

    19. Yes I didn't really like the Luts Delf Yder, Doll Love Evol and Blue Fairy Robin~ the I saw more owner pics, I started to really fall in love with them!
I thought the Doll Love Evol stock picture was really awful but as I saw more owner pics of her, I really fell in love with that sculpt.
Not sure why it happens I suppose most stock pictures of a doll and how its styled, doesn't appeal to some bjd owners so it can put them off a doll for a while...

    20. Whenever I see a doll I like I always look for IRL images of it to help with my decision :)
