Character Creation: What-Race, Nationality or Species is your doll? Pt. 2!

Apr 28, 2012

    1. If you have dolls that look human but aren't, what species are they?
Fleur, my first doll, is a Nixie, a type of water sprite. She is a shapeshifter but she is also a changeling. So she sees her 'human' form as her normal self and hasn't tried shifting into her true form, which she hasn't worn since she was very young.

The funny thing is, the doll that looks like an elf, Druella, is actually human. She was raised by Fleur's original family and has a glamour cast on her so she that she looks more like her Nixie family. Without the glamour she looks more human, but prolonged exposure to magic has changed her features somewhat, exagerating things like her figure and the size of her eyes.

There are obvious species like elves, demons, vampires etc, but have you ever discovered an obscure species to use for one of your dolls?
Like I said above, my non human character is a Nixie. She isn't always as described in folktales because I've mixed my version of Nixies with my own ideas so that she's a bit more fun for me to write for.

Have you ever created a species of your own?
No, but I have mixed the folktales about different types of fae to create a more complete idea for a species.

If not, would you ever consider it?
Maybe, it seems like a lot of effort, especially when there's so many interesting species to be inspired by!

    2. I have some new arrivals so I'll list them, and I think I forgot Emyrren who is human-looking except for elvish ears and a unicorn horn in his forehead (he's a Soom Epidos Unikenta head who will have a Dollzone 72cm body eventually).

Mysra is a Soom Beyla, she has hooves and the unicorn horn in her forehead. She's a fantasy species for a world created by myself and Nightweaver, and Emyrren is her father.

Yage is a Dollshe Orijean, and a space alien who is somewhere between 800 and 900 years old. His alien features are most obvious in his long slit-like eyes and narrow facial structure. His body is humanoid although very skinny.

Ramza is a Soom Trachy and thus looks very like a stereotypical red humanoid demon, minus the wings and he has humanoid feet. His sister Lilia is also red, though she lacks the horns and tail because she prefers to look slightly more human.

Jack is a Dollzone boy Kuilan (dragonfly wings) and is a pixie, while mini-Riddick is a Dollzone boy Dongdong and an alien space bug.

...I have a regular zoo. XD

    3. I haven't thought much of it really... but now that I see this topic it gets me thinking.

I have one doll who is a Wizard, Harry Potter style. So he pretty much looks like a normal human, he just has magical powers.

Then four dolls who are fantasy dolls from a magical ice cream themed land. I suppose you could classify them as elves or spirits. It's a bit hard with these since they aren't really fitting for any of the popular fantasy species.
      I suppose they're a new species I made up :)
They all pretty much look human, but they can have pointy ears and strange hair and eye colours.

I have one succubus, she looks human but sometimes she shows her true form - long black hair and long horns on her head as well as a tail.

I used to have a fairy, but she's going to a new home now.

Itersting, I actually don't have any regular old human dolls.

    4. If you have dolls that look human but aren't, what species are they?
My dolls, owned and planned, are all not human. They are, in the conceptual world that their characters are based on, actual dolls. I guess, the closest to a 'species' they would be is 'enchanted doll'.

The two dolls I just bought, Fairyland ChicLines, are the only 'non-dolls' though; they are faye/fairies, though their exact species and definition beyond that is rather vague.

There are obvious species like elves, demons, vampires etc, but have you ever discovered an obscure species to use for one of your dolls?
I'd say that making one's doll concept be an actual doll, especially an enchanted doll, is surprisingly rare in this hobby, so I guess that counts if it counts as a species. But for the other, fairies and faye are quite common.

Have you ever created a species of your own?
While enchanted dolls aren't an original idea, I did lay out my own description and rules for what they, as a 'species' or a whole, are and what they're like. Habits, abilities, personalities, likes/dislikes, customs, etc..

    5. Well my first doll was based on a werewolf OC but my second doll will be a unicorn hybrid doll. I think she will be beautiful.

    6. Like Yumeko, my first doll is a werewolf. In his story, he started out as a human but eventually, he let his lover (yume's doll) turn him. There are a couple of dolls that I have my eyeball on. When I manage to afford to get them remains to be seen, but of the two that I'm eyeing right now for my OC's....one of them will be human while the other will be a Kitsune/Kumiho...(I say this because the char is japanese/korean mix. Still the same creature though, just different names in different cultures)...and not a very nice one either. >.>; I haven't decided if I'll mod him to give him ears and/or a tail, but if I do, they may be used as temporary accessories that I can remove since he usually wanders around in his human form moreso than his half-form. (full form is obviously fox head, claws, the works. not really doll material :P). I'll probably decide what to do with him once I get him, but that'll be a while.

I once wrote fantasy stories in high school and had created a number of races, and my favorite one...I would be half tempted to dollify if I were to get a doll and let a char form around it rather than trying to base a doll on an existing OC, but I'm not sure if/when it would happen. We shall see.

    7. Oh, I love different species! And I hope to experiment with this more as I get more dolls.
      Right now I only have two, a human, and er....a half-cat-boy?? He looks human but with cat ears and two tails and displays a lot of feline behaviors.~ I'm not sure how to explain how he got that way, though ^^;;

    8. If you have dolls that look human but aren't, what species are they?

Well all of my dolls look more or less human(Boku the Pipos Bao aside). Buts lets see here:
Faelan-Mostly Human Shapeshifter(There's a touch of Shadow Spirit and Dampire in there)
Moses-Schiff(Bases of of Moses Schiff from Blood+)
Kireboshi and Mikal- Tetuin-Zakaman Demon(Winged Demons with horns(generally...some don't have horns))
      Korin- Flame Spirit
      Suzette- Tetuin-Zakaman Demoness
      Mizu- Shadow Spirit-Kappa Hybrid
Kiiachi- Feathers(more or less a human with wings and slight elemental powers)
      Sehk(it)- Dragoon
Boku- Chisaikasaiinu(He's a Shadow Spirit familiar...that looks much like a small, flaming dog...)
Madenea/Made-L- Meikelan demon(much like the other species just with different abilities)/More of less a Death Note L'ish being

There are obvious species like elves, demons, vampires etc, but have you ever discovered an obscure species to use for one of your dolls?

I'd say Kappa's are a touch obscure...other then that...not off the top of my head...

Have you ever created a species of your own?

Yes, though they are just my spins on common beings like the Tetuin's/Zakaman's/Meikelan demons, the Feathers, and the Shadow Spirit's...plus a few I don't have a doll of and really never plan to have a doll of...

    9. Well... Pete and Billy are human, but Vince's character is that of a living doll who doesn't think he's nearly as spoiled as he should be! So he looks just like a normal human doll... because a doll is exactly what he is!

I have a character that I love dearly, and I have plans to dollify his 'found family'-- or, most of them. See, while most of this group is fully human (or at least looks fully human), Marcelon is a lake creature, and instead of having the standard-mermaid/man fish tail, from the waist down, he has an octopus' mantle and tentacles (think Ursula from The Little Mermaid, but a fairly slender and handsome man in his late twenties, I guess).

There's absolutely NO good way to shell that... so I would have to make a human version of him, or not get him at all and just leave a gap in the group.

Luckily, I have a lot of time to think about it, since I'm still saving for my first character from this little 'family', and she is fully human.

    10. Wow, some fascinating dolls in this thread!

None of my dolls are meant to be human... with the possible exception of Rohan, who looks human but is basically an 'actor' to take on an elven role, and Lorani's alter-ego Ben... Basically I want to do some photoshoots of my dolls in an AU where they are actors portraying their characters. But the characters themselves are not human at all.

The three dolls I have so far are all technically elves, and all characters from my novel in progress...
Andruthen (AoD Jimi) is VERY elven, with glorious pointed ears and a tendency to seem a bit haughty...
Lorani (BlueBloodDoll Valentine, though I intend to swap the Valentine head for a custom sculpt) is a Mordani, a race of elf born with the genetic ability to transform into wolves. He occasionally part-transforms, and his ears and tail appear...
And Rohan/Telior (AoD Qian) is Andruthen's best friend, a rather more light-hearted elf.

In the future I hope to obtain Telior's wife, daughter, and twin brother. I also want to get Andruthen's younger sister... as well as his enemy, the daemon prince Varroth.

So yeah, no humans amongst my human-looking dolls! :P

    11. My dolls are all humans, but they are from all over the world, but in the universe my friend and I share is suppose to happen in the UK.
Alina is Polish, Tatyana is Russian, Isabelle is half black American and half white British, Felix is Sudanese, Agnes is half Swedish, half white British, Nasim and Nida is Pakistani and Daniele is Brazillian. The rest is just white British. :)

I love my Resinsoul Rong's ears so I made up a race and got a Mei and a Yu for a family unit. They are a nomadic tribe called the Umbra, grey skin and hairless.

    13. If you have dolls that look human but aren't, what species are they?
Liam and Rose (and possibly my next few future dolls) look completely human, but they aren't. They were humanoid lab experiments created to see if humans were able to create a species with unique powers that normal people don't posses (inhanced intellegence, teleportation, super human speed/strength, morphing, ect.) They act like normal people (they sleep, eat, breath, have emotions, ect.) but there are a few perks. Of course, there are their unique abilities, special to each character, and they also heal faster than normal people. They can also sense when another humanoid person like them is around them (for instance, they can pick eachother out in a crowd). However, when their powers are low/they use them too much things happen to them. For instance, Liam's eye sight goes weak and Rose's hair changes colors. I have a huge storyline I've built around them and everything. It's all very interesting.

There are obvious species like elves, demons, vampires etc, but have you ever discovered an obscure species to use for one of your dolls?
No, not yet. I'd much rather create my own species as I did!

Have you ever created a species of your own?
      Yes, see first question!

If not, would you ever consider it?
I would deffinetely consider creating another one and working it into the storyline/another story!

    14. I make up a lot of fantasy races, but the only one I actually have a doll of is a zenaidan, which is really more of a genetic trait than a whole new species. They're basically humans who have dove-like features and tend to be favored by the sun spirit. The actual features and their prominence depends a lot on the person, and a lot of times you can't tell if someone's a zenaidan at all due to breeding with regular humans. In my girl Rory, this manifests in her grey hair, red eyes with blue skin around them, and naturally black nails.

    15. As of right now, none of my dolls are "human" so to speak and same for future planned dolls, haha

Koudelka is a type of Chimera. Ram horns, bird-skull face, and rat-tail.. however, she has her human form which is a pure-white girl :)
Lilweth is.. well she's Death of the Four Horseman's daughter :D (she just doesn't know it, lol)
Lillian is a type of demon, though I'm still working out the details on her.

    16. I currenlt only own one human BJD, but I have a few future supernatural dolls planned! Currently I have 2 necromancers, an elf, one ghost and a kitsune on the agenda! ^_^

    17. all of the girls that I have and are waiting for are fae

    18. My doll was named after my favorite fairy, a small beautiful person, about an inch tall, with different kinds of wings. She is not a fairy herself, but there is a story that has to do with magical like stuff.

I have made up my own species yeeeaars ago, but never associated them with dolls....maybe I will do that o:

    19. Currently the two dolls I have (lets not dwelve on the dolls I might get. That makes my post so much more shorter), are a.. erm.. god of sorts? Its really vague and I'd rather not say one way or another, as it keeps the stories about him more interesting. The baseworld all my characters are based on, also has a very vague god-system, so the vaguer, the better. The other doll I have, is a full on robot..

My next doll is going to be a green skinned android who decided looking like an alien was an excellent idea. Which it was.

    20. Species! I selected alien, cyborg, draenei, goddess, and semi-goddes/fog sprite, apart of two humans!
