1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Characters for your dolls VS. dolls for your characters

Oct 29, 2010

    1. Characters for doll - the other way is fraught with problems, such as the doll refusing to cooperate once you have it, and having to try several dolls/sculpts beofre you find the one that is right. I tend to buy dolls I like the look of, and "get to know them" once I have them home and can begin trying eyes, wigs, and clothes to find what they seem most themselves in.

Nope, I think it's a matter of personal inclination. It's a matter of whether it is suited to the person, not to the hobby.

Mostly I've been a doll first character later person (with all my dolls, not just BJD) but I've occasionally had an idea for the sort of character the doll would be, then been completely thwarted by the doll once i opened the box (my planned super-slick, fashiion-maven, spy/secret-agent Narae, turned out to be a laid-back hippy, for example). And I once had a doll decide she was a character from a favourite childhood series of books, and I HATED the process of trial-and-error involved in trying to find the right sculpt to be her elder sister. Far too much of a pain in the arse to do for every doll.

    2. I am a "doll for character " type ) So my favorite heroes come alive (or almost alive)))))

    3. Wich type are you? a Characters for dolls, or a dolls for characters?

I am definitely a characters for doll person. I love to create a character for a sculpt or doll I love.

Do you think one way is better or more suited for the hobby?
No. I do not. This hobby is for pure self expression and If you like to get dolls for characters that already exist or vise versa that is valid. I just enjoy meeting new characters that other collectors create thru their dolls.

Have you always done one, or did something make you switch along the way? Why switch?
I have always done one although I am thinking of trying to get a doll for a character from a TV show.
