1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Chinese BJD companies disappearing lately?

Oct 11, 2021

    1. @Amet, it's so long ago, Woori and Winking Ari might just be a mix up in my head.

I've been keeping track of the new bans in China, and I've also wondered how this may effect what kinds of dolls are being made and how they are styled and and promoted. You'd think Ringdoll would be the first to feel that effect as they are a very large force in the market. I guess we'll wait and find out.

I agree with you as well, the expansion of the market for BJD in China has been explosive compared to any other place. It would make sense that you'd also see more attrition in that market too.

    2. Oh, boy...that is REALLY dumb. I can't believe there are laws about that. Why can't people just accept people, and dolls, how they are?

    3. Oh I didn't even think that the new changes might affect dolls! I certainly hope they'll still release Hua Cheng, especially since it seems like they're going forward with season 2 for the donghua and still filming the live action adaptation.

I hope companies don't need to make too many changes for their dolls; the more gentle/ delicate face sculpts for BJD have always been a big part of why I like them!

    4. Aha I’m a Chinese doll collector. I can tell you they didn’t disappear for sure. Furthermore, they keep making new dolls.

    6. Wow, I hadn't even considered that ban affecting dolls, but I think this makes sense. Even if it's not a reason for doll companies to disappear suddenly, I think it's not unreasonable to consider that this would affect the way that Chinese dolls look in the future.

    7. Every Chinese doll company. As far as I know, none of them disappeared.

    8. This is a sensitive subject and China doesn't want it to be known the truth behind certain things, but...there are always things they are deciding to crack down on ( "玻璃心"). So probably you'll never get a straight answer on the sudden lack of dolls from them or why certain companies disappear seemingly out of nowhere. Ultimately though, and most unfortunately so, the reason ends up being linked to things that the government there is introducing new rules or laws on.

    9. Very sad if so. I got into Dolk a few months ago which opened my eyes to the world of Chinese BJDs and BJD clothes and accessories. Luckily Dolk always lists the manufacturer so I was able to find the ones I wanted on Taobao, where they’re much cheaper. It’s like a whole new world for me, and it would be so sad if they were disappearing due to supply issues…

    10. This may sound naive, but aren't the majority of bjd companies in China? All of my dolls are from Chinese companies. Maybe it seems like it's just the Chinese companies stopping production, because most BJD companies ARE Chinese.

    11. While it would be intereseting to see some statistics, apart from China many companies are also based in Korea, Japan and Hongkong. And there is of couse countless indepenent doll artists around the world as well. Many new artists from Russia have gained a fair bit of attention the last couple of years just to name one country that comes up a lot.
