Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? I found DoD's website and I first fell in love with Sha because he was a mirror image of one of my original characters, even down to the name! But then while I was doing the saving thing, they released Homme Ducan and he instantly just clicked! It was one of those, "Holy crap! Where have you been all my life?!" moments.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first? As soon as I saw him I knew.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one? I have never been unhappy with my choice... unfortunatly my bank account and the economy are all against him.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it? DoD's DoT Homme Ducan fullset. I currently still own him, but sadly I have to sell him because I need the money to pay for rent and to keep me and the fiance fed. I've wrestled with the choice for a long time, but now it's really getting down to the wire especially with a wedding in the future.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present? He was kind of a present in the way that my mom let me take out some money from my savings to get him... so not really. I payed half with my savings (that I didn't know I had at the time), and half with money that I had saved up.

 

NOT hard at all! I decided I wanted a Soony there on the spot! She was the first Dollfie I ever saw. But then I couldn't afford her, so I thought, why not get a Kid Delf Ani first, to face-up and dress, so I can sell her to buy a Soony. So that's what I did. Ani was my first. But she is sold a long time ago, and I never bought that Soony... I bought lots of other dolls instead!

My first doll was an Angel region Dana,and i decide to buy her. But now i think it was a bad decision,i never socialize with her XD

At the time i had only 15 years old,so i choose simply for the less expansive. I Know,bad idea!

In the beginning I had a little doubt that I made the wrong choice choosing her.
I couldn't bond with her. After taking here default face-up. And did by myself.
Problem was gone. Now, I'm so happy with her. No regrets that I kept her.

Dollzone Orlando and yes I still have her!^^

About a year before buying I went through companies sites I knew and saved some links. That was my first improvised wishlist. That time, I was knew to BJD, I didn't knew a lot of things. For example that non-promo wig and makeup can drastically change doll appearance. So I saved some links thinking "I love how this one looks!"
Time passed. "I like him, I want him!" transformed into "I want to make him look like one of my characters". I also had learned about different wigs and makeup The Second Doll Research had started, I wasn't looking for "pretty molds" anymore, I was looking for one and only that resembles my particular character. And to my surprise one of such dolls already was in the old wishlist! That was a sign, really.

The most horrible things happened right after I paid my order. Every day I discovered a new BJD-shop, and almost everyone had at least one doll, that made me think: "Why hadn't I seen him before?! I would order him instead!" Those were the hard days...
When my boy arrived I noticed, that his face shape is closer to oval, that round. That is clearly seen on promo-photos, but for a some reason I was sure, it is round. Well, this is the only thing which I can categorize as the one that "made me unhappy". Everything else was just so cool to be disappointed )

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Dollmore Thinking Kara Klum. He had been with me not for a long time but I promised myself, I won't try to sell him to buy another doll no matter what.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well, Juli was the first doll I ever held. Something just struck me about her that none of the other dolls I've looked at online can compare to. If an excellent deal came up on another AoD doll, provided it was not one I really didn't like, I'd buy her first. But I plan on buying Juli once I've raised the money.

Edit: Well, since I wrote this I discovered the AA Shi, who is verymuch cuter and more affordable. I ordered Shi, and after faceup and shipping she costs less than Juli before all that. ^_^

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Well, my boyfriend thinks it's crazy, but I just knew, when I held her.

Edit: After seeing how cute Shi is, comparing quality and prices, doing a lot of research, and asking the seller a few questions, I decided that I was going to order a doll that I just love everything about!

All the other questions don't apply, since I don't own a doll yet, but I plan on keeping my first forever. She will always be special.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I almost bought a DOD Shall. I was completely sold on her. she is so lovely! But at the time, I had just had a baby and knew that I could not afford a doll that expensive, nor did I want to risk ruining a doll that expensive. I had planned to do my own face-ups and I knew that when my daughter started walking that she would get the attack of the grabby hands, so I did not want to buy a $600+ doll knowing that I could damage her face or that my daughter could knock her over and break her. so I settled on a cheaper doll. I bought a B&G Freya which made me fel really good. I had been introduced to dolls through B&G. the first doll I had ever seen in person was a Triya. So buying from the same company as my friends felt really nice. I was really captured by her face. she was very lovely.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
After I had committed to buying a cheaper doll instead of the DOD Shall I knew I really wanted, my friend helped me find dolls that were less expensive. When she told me about the ebay vendor where she got her doll and I saw my Freya, I just knew THAT was my doll. I just kind of knew. I'm not sure if the connection had formed instantly or maybe I just knew I would bond really well with her, but I just knew that Freya was my doll.

I guess that even though I was happy with my choice, part of me did regret not getting Shall. But it actually worked out really well because during my initial doll search/research I had never been to iplehouse. If I had, I probably would have bought an Iple Harin right from the start instead of considering DOD Shall. But also, I ended up bonding really well with my Freya, so it worked out really well.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
B&G Freya, and yes, I still own her. I am actually getting a second one too! B&G upgraded their bodies and the Freya/SKy mold and I loved it so much that I just had to upgrade my girl. But when I tried to sell my Freya to upgrade to my new Freya, I couldn't! I had bonded to her so well that hubby just had to let me buy a whole new doll. So now I have Freya sisters...

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

I didn't. SHE decided for me. SHE slapped my face at Luts and I totally fell head over heels. I refused to look at her, refused to go back for a whole MONTH and then finally caved in. Lishe for the win. XD

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

When, after a month of avoiding Luts, and dreaming each and every night for that month with that sweet face looking at me saying "Hello, my name is Alice. Bring me home."

She was such a learning experience! I had never even SEEN a BJD let alone touched one. And there she was, right out of the box and I sat, crying. Not just because she was lovely, but because she curled into a ball and I was totally CLUELESS what to do about it. hahaha But no, not unhappy at all.

CP Lishe, both heads (normal and sleepy). And oh heck yes! She's the Queen of my household!

See answer to #1. She chose me. And then SHE chose her brother, (CP El) and I've run down the long road of dolls since then (see siggy). If I won the lottery I'd be hip deep in lovely bjds. But then, I don't play the Lottery because I'm too busy saving for that next one. And the one after that. Oh and the one after that too! XD

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? - I had several qualities in mind and I chose a doll that possessed all these qualities. Actually there were several such dolls and I chose a mold that has a little smile))

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one? - Never before I received him, and when I got him in my hands I understood that he suits perfectly. If I choose something once I do not tend to change my mind.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it? - I have only one doll, Soom Lazule, and he is the 1st one.

I first narrowed down to 1/4 MSD boys since i'm not too sure if i could handle bigger boys back then. (girls never come across my mind since i'm a yaoi fan :P) Then i searched for days, went to all doll company websites and try to find a mold i like And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
His face is just lovely and very affordable, especially if you buy it on the Chinese website in RMB. I also heard how posable AOD bodies can be, so there it is.

Absolutely not. I'm so happy with my boy, even with a few problems here and there. But he was my first doll and was a B-day present so he meant a lot to me. Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

It was a B-day present from my cousin who lives in China. Because of the time constraint, by choosing a Chinese company, the doll was quickly reached to my parents who went back for a visit. So the shipping cost was also saved

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well, the first doll I've ever laid eyes on were two CP El's. Oh man. They were BEAUTIFUL!!~ I'm pretty sure she/he has a DoA account too but I don't really know what it is, so I'll put who she/he is on deviantart (because that's where I saw them...). The owner's name was, 'Heise', and they're a wonderful and very creative person who makes lovely clothes, and has very very lovely dolls! I just thought they were pretty, but my sister went crazy over them and actually wanted one, so I though, 'Hey, why not get one myself??', and yep...that's what I did. The first BJD site I was on was (of course) the ELuts site. I checked out the Delfs, but didn't really like any but YDer, and EL. My sister had her eyes set on an EL (but she chose a CP Moon instead.) So I checked out the SDFs; I saw SDF Bliss, and was like OMG so beautiful, then SDF Abadon, and was like Oooo pretty, but when I saw SDF Dion...--he just blew me away... From then on, I KNEW that I wanted HIM!!

I...couldn't get him off my mind, and was indeed the most gorgeous I had ever seen. He also had this, 'look', that just says, 'I need you', and I'm just like...'Oh gosh I need you too.' ><

I was happy with my choice, but I never could get my hands on him, because...well first of all he was limited and limited dolls aren't that easy to get (well most of them...), so he was sold out before I even found him, plus when he came out again (2nd Edition) he went out of stock in seconds, and being a high-schooler who has her dad pay for everything...well it just could/would not happen. Dion was the one I fell in love with, but I went for another doll, because...I couldn't wait anymore. I would of been so happy with an SDF Dion, but now I have a Crobidoll Limited WS Lance. Ironic, but I don't regret buying my CD Lance at all, and if I think about it...I kind of like him more.

Crobidoll Limited WS Lance was my first, and I wouldn't give the world up for him. Even if someone was willing to trade me an SDF Dion; although it'd be really really hard to turn the offer down ><
Life's a tough place, and you don't always get what you want, but we all continue to live on...

Yep I chose him; it would of been hard accepting something that I had really didn't want, but oh well.

I'm putting that one first because my first doll was a present, from my best friend. XD She bought him, came up with a character for him, with my help, as usual (I have a creator's stake in about half her characters), then decided she didn't want him. I had already created a girlfriend and backstory for him, however, and said I would buy him from her when I had some money. Well, I ended up having a very crappy move and couple months (and they're still not great right now), and she just sent him to me out of the blue! I ended up buying a puki for her in retaliation, though. ;D

As far as the first doll I intend to buy, once I get the money, it was decided mainly by the doll I was given. He is very lonely and hates just about the entire world except for his girlfriend, so until I buy her he just won't be happy.

As soon as I saw Belladon's box on my doorstep. ;D

I haven't ordered her yet, so I can't be sure, but I have a feeling it'll work out fine. I actually really disliked the sculpt when I picked it out, but it has grown on me. ;D

I still own my Bela, and intend to for a long time! If I ever sell him, I'll have to sell Gabriella (his girlfriend) at the exact same time, otherwise my heart will break. ;o;

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? Hmm... I wanted a character doll of Omi Tsukiyono. I am a Weiss Kreuz otaku, and those dolls were so awesome and human-like *___* Yes, I have not got into bjd because I love dolls-- I've always liked dolls, but it wasn't my major motivation. So-- my first love was d.i.m. Angelo, but he was sold out and he wouldn't fit Omi anyway... So I went looking for other dolls-- yes, I have to admit that at that time I wanted a cheaper one. I think I settled on DollZone MSD Ray-- at that time I though that with the right wig and eyes I will be able to create a good Omi with almost any doll^^; Well, while looking for Ray's owner pics, I realized he is SO NOT FOR ME... and SD Wilka wasn't all that much expensive, but much cuter and bigger (I've always preferred bigger dolls)... So here he is!

And when did you know that this doll should be your first? He was easy to buy (we have a polish DollZone dealer), he was cute and he was SD-- I really liked (and still like) his adorable lips.

I belive I will buy and sell many dolls in the future-- I won't know if the doll is perfect for me if I don't buy and try it first.

I ordered the doll I'm talking about but a Tanning Lishe arrived in her place. SO she was my first doll and yes I still own her and I also love her very very much too.

All my dolls were a present from me to myself lol. Speaking as someone who has love at first sight dolls and carefully planned dolls I say yes it is easy to choose. Easy because they ones that want you will pick you and the one you spend ages trying to find will come to you in the end.

I didn't my boyfriend at the time, now my ex, picked him.

I didn't...I was in love with another doll..but I missed her on ebay. It was a doc Twing-key. Her smile, her eyes..everything was perfect and I was in tears when he wouldn't let me get her till he came home and I missed her. So I just gave up, kinda, and let him pick a doll and pretended I liked the choice

From the moment I opened his box. But I pretended I loved him. Faked it to everyone and even fooled myself..but I just didn't bond to him at all

Kid delf Woori. yes, I still own him..more because he was my first than anything else. I do hope one day to bond to him in some way

I paid for him out of my own pocket..but I didn't choose him. It was more of a heartbroken choice

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? I knew that I wanted a Volks FCS. I wasn't sure if it would be MSD sized or SD-13. But I knew I wanted it to be a girl. I had some idea of what molds I wanted for both sizes. Ended up with SD-13 because I just liked the size much better in person. Also I didn't know when would be the next time I could afford a doll, so if I had to choose one of the two, I woudl have the SD-13.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I knew when I saw a particular mold when I was choosing and just fell in love (F-27). I don't know why, it just called to me.

Nope, never. I love everything I chose for her- especially her eyelashes ^_^

Yuuki- FCS F-27. First doll, only doll at the moment, and I will never sell her.

Yes. See above. Present? It was mostly yes, from my mother. Part of the reason why I never want to sell Yuuki.

I was mostly looking at the mold. I had to find the perfect eyes...I am all about eyes, because eyes are the windows to the soul (where is that from...?) and I put extra effort into eyes when I draw, paint and model. I needed to find that boy with the PERFECT eyes...And I found him.

The moment I clapped eyes on him. I literally felt my heart jump. I knew it had to be him, and nobody but.

I do not own him yet, but I knew that I will NEVER be unhappy with him.

For me, yes, and yes.

 

The first doll was easy. I saw him and it was obsession at first sight. It gets a bit harder more into it when deciding what should be next. But the first and second was no hard decision. My first and second doll was Barron and Freezia from Iplehouse. I still love them ever so much!

I actually did not want this as my first bjd, but my dad insisted that price was going to be the biggest factor. >< So, I found a bjd as close to Iplehouse's Tatiana, which had been my first choice...

I knew when I fell in love with the face that so sweet and precious. :3

I was a little dishearted, but I still did/do love the sculpt, even though it was not my very first choice. I wish I could have gotten Tatiana though, but that's alright. I love my Mira as she is!
