Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
This sounds silly... But I didn't. She chose me. Saw her and my heart kind of stopped.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I knew right after I saw her that I needed to get her home.

Nope. I adore her, so much more so now that she's her.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Jehremya Sabriel, Soom Beryl, yes, I do, she's chilling at home right now.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I trawled through all the doll websites and I picked one that I thought looked the nicest, and liked the poses. Also I chose one that my mother didn't think was creepy, even though she said it didn't matter to her. I'd be like "Do you think this one is creepy?" eventually I found quite a few she liked too

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Well I thought she was so beautiful ^_^ I was like... "Wowwww...". Same with the second girlie I'm getting. I thought she had such a kickass attitude! I adore both their looks.
But it was a very tough decision, I chose between a few. In the end, I did get two. Though I still class one of them as my primary choice. They are both a 21st Birthday present. I showed mum the one I was choosing between and she's like, well why not get both? I was like O_O OK.

I don't think so I'm very happy with my choices and I'm extremely eagerly anticipating their delivery, though I think my secondary choice will arrive before my primary!! This bothers me a little, cos I did want one of them to be the first I held, but I don't mind too much

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first choice is DoC Petsha Fullset, my second is Iplehouse Tatiana Pierrot I am waiting!!

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
They, and a few accessaries along with them, are a very generous birthday present from my mother. I did get to choose, though.

 

The doll I want as my first was actually a really easy decision =3 As soon as I saw her I fell in love with her ^^

Well, for me it wasn't a decision. It was a feeling and doing according to it
I very much liked Luts Breakaway but it was not my first doll. I wiil still have him in future

As soon as Soom relisted Amber. Since I was little I used to draw girls who were wery fair with hands to long and with wery long and strange fingers. As soon as I saw Ambers hands I knew that that was destiny. I couldn't tell myself anymore that those dolls are very expensive and so on... I just bought her

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Never-I still haven't receivet it yet. But i know it is the one and only, the beloved _^_!!! I bought another doll along to practise. It is used AF, I think It's Lili, but not sure. I bought her from a person from my country for 170 $. So technicaly that AF is the first but accordnig to the pay dates it is Amber and this is that right count for me.
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Amber was in 1/3 present from my fiancee (913$ + 130$ for shipping was just to much for my wallet _^_ ) but I've been able to choose it.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I ended up looking at a lot of pictures, before I decided. I was trying to decide between a Iplehouse Harin, and a Luts Soony. Finally after looking at a ton of pictures, I ended up with Soony. I ended up naming her Netsuke, wich means keeper of magic. And I recently noticed I have over 100 pictures of her same mold saved on to my computer! It's amazing how each doll looks so different, even though it's the same mold.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I was looking through pictures on my computer, and I realized just how many pictures of Soony's that I had saved... wow.

Nope. She made a great first doll. I actually have more MSD sized dolls, than SD, but I still really like her. Her face just seems so expressionate!

Soony! A.K.A. Netsuke. And yes, I'd never sell her. D:

I don't know, it wasn't very hard. I had about three choices that I knew I wanted to be my first so from there I just picked the best price-4-quality one.

When I saw it's thumbnail on the website. Practically popped a vessel once I saw the full-size photos.

No, I love him. The only discomfort I feel is in wondering what kind of other doll he would work well with if I choose to buy another some day.

It looks like a lot of what goes into deciding what doll you want to be your first can be pretty "spur of the moment." *is doing tons of research on the different doll types* XD I just hope that once I choose a doll, I don't regret it. That would be terrible. D:

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I have looked and looked at BJD's for such a long time now. I always do when choosing new dolls in my colection because I very seldom sell. I have been in love with Lihmwa halfelf, with Narae and Narin and of course the delightful Nocturne Circus. all so very beautiful. Only now I have decided on Dolltown. They chose me and made my heart stop. I have not yet bought her but it will not be long now.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Seeing Marbled Halls dolls first and also Animemums dolls made me love their Seola's.

Those are the ones I will order, and I am sure.

This will be my first BJD, but have many other dolls too.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I had a credit card with a 500$ limit XD This was about 2 and a half years ago so 1/3 dolls under 500 dollars were not as easy to find as they are now. I was not interested in a 1/4 doll, which would have given me many more options.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
After a lot of looking around and comparing the few dolls I could afford. I was basically limited to Dollzone. It took me a few months to build up the nerve to actually buy it.

Yes I did, she's a frustrating sculpt (DZ Cherry, she's so wide eyed!) and her body is the old type, which is quite beefy. It's kind of a pain to find clothes and shoes that fit her right. At the time I wished I had gotten a more "user friendly" doll with a more generic size and a more expressive face sculpt.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Dollzone Cherry. Yes I still own her! She's special because she was my first doll. Even when I get completely frustrated with her (and wow can she be frustrating!) I would never seriously consider selling her just because I was unhappy with her.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? i knew for a long time that i wanted a soom doll. i have really like everysingle MD since bix down and i loved sard and beryl. so i knew if they had a hooved doll it would be the one for me... and then they came out with heliot and i would have gotten him even if he didnt have hooves!


And when did you know that this doll should be your first? the day he was released!

the only way i think you could prevent this is to not limit yourself. dont buy a doll you think is cute just because its so much cheaper than the doll you really love. even if you have to keep saving for years.

Well me and one of my best friend discovered the dolls a couple years ago at Otakon in Batlimore. And after the con we immeduitly went on several sites before we saw Dollzone and my friend found her doll in a snap but it took me a while to find mine, and then I saw my perfect doll. A DZ MSD Tintan!!

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

As soon as I layed eyes on it, it had everything I wanted as a doll!!

Like I said, a DZ MSD Tintan and yesh I do, I have no intention of ever selling her.

Yes I was able to choose her, but it was a gift cuz my parents bought her for me for my bday.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

I looked at so many homepages, for a long long time. When I first fell into the hobby there weren't as many companies, and "real" pictures were harder to come by.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

I was stuck between a Tender Zen and a Volks MSD Ken. After finally seeing a few of the Zen photos, I realized he wasn't for me. I was more in love with DOD's promo pictures than the doll... And with Ken, I knew I was actually in love with the doll.

I ordered a kit doll, originally. After a few weeks, though, a really lovely FCS version popped up and I bought that one and sold the assembled kit. I had a moment of love at first sight! Haha. XD

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

My first was MSD Ken, the FCS F-02 version. I still own him, and he is still very special to me.

Yep, I chose him. He was a present to myself! XD

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

To be honest I went through stages.... first I saw VOLKS megu and fell in love with her... then moved onto VOLKS sakura.... from there I discovered LUTS and kid delf bory who seemed a lot more affordable before I finally found my lovely Dollmore Miro girl. I did a lot of research and lucky me I had a friend who was in the hobby already who taught me a lot about them and helped me choose.... she was even there to help me order

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

I guess after I stared at the pictures for a good couple hours. I kept revisiting the page for a long time before I even started saving up for her. I tend to linger on things and take my time before I purchase anything really of this price but... she was SO cute.... and the pictures were SO flattering!! Love at first sight!

No. I dont think I could ever regret my descision. I'm really attached to her now. :3 and I really like her for how she is. I think the only thing I ever regret is not getting an SD sized doll instead but now that I think about it, MSD seems so perfect

A kid dollmore miro girl named Hanako. And she's still my only doll I'm too poor to afford anymore resin children.

Yep! She was all mine, I bought her for myself since I passed my year at school

I had him on my list of dolls I wanted, but unfortunatly as he was limited and sold out, I didn't plan on getting him anytime soon. But When I saw him come up in the marketplace, I jumped on the chance to get him.

Hrm. Not really. I was hesitant at first but after blushing him and sanding down his seams, I bonded with him like glue.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Cadence, Crobidoll SW Lance limited is my first and only doll so far. I have plans to get him an adopted sister and an enemy and two more friends.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I didn't have a lot of expendable cash, but I REALLY wanted to get my first BJD. Through searching, I found Bobobie dolls, which fit in my budget, yet offered a lot of options. I found the Ariel sculpt, saw the ears, and ordered her right then and there.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
It took me about a week to convince myself to actually get a doll. ("should I get one?" "yes! you love them" "no! hold off for another few months!") So in early October 2008, I started looking around, and it only took a few days to decide on the Ariel.

I'm quite happy. It's not that I didn't want the Ariel, it's that I wanted them all! So I've been working away at my wish list.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
As I've said before, it's a Bobobie Ariel. Her name is Rowan, and I still have her.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Yes. It was supposed to be my Christmas gift. I told my husband "If I get her, you can't get me anything for Christmas! This will be my present!" Well, he got me stuff anyways (not that I'm complaining ).

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I'd been thinking about (and trying to stay away from) Volks dolls for a few years. I knew my first doll would be a Volks boy because I loved them so much and Black Cat Lucas was my favorite.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I compared pictures of him to School A and F16 boys and decided I liked him better than the others.

I was shocked at how big and heavy he was! I was happy with him being my only boy but when I got my SD 13girl, I was disappointed that they were the same height and then she took over all my attention.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Black Cat Lucas was the first full doll I owned (there were a couple other floating heads, but they don't count!). I don't have him anymore, even though I loved him. My girl's wardrobe and shoe collection expanded quickly and BC Lucas only had one outfit, no shoes, etc. I didn't want to spend money on him and sold him to buy another girl.

In retrospect, I think I would have bought him clothes/shoes but I don't regret selling him. He would have sat on the doll bench permanently and wouldn't have been appreciated like my other dolls.

No one would ever dream of giving me dolls as a present.

I was between two. Iplehouse and luts.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I decided luts when they had a really cute dress and some other stuff. I had no idea there are shops specializing in BJDs

No I love her. The minute I touched her and saw the quality of the resin the perfect face up I knew I wanted another one.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? I was torn between a few: Elfdoll Lydia, DOD Shall, and Iplehouse Freezia. I was further torn because of body selection and resin matching. o_o I finally got marketplace access, found no Lydia heads that I wanted, no Shalls I wanted, and no Freezias I wanted.... But one person had an Iplehouse Dreaming Harin.... And in the Database, I'd managed to see just how versatile this sculpt could be.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first? Like.... a week after I gained Marketplace access? XD;; I realized that she had all the right features as I stared at her unpainted head.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one? NO. NOT EVAR. o_o; She's worth every penny.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it? Iplehouse Dreaming Harin WS, and I definitely still own her; this happened within the year ^^ She's my baby and I couldn't be happier.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? Well I could get murdered for saying this but the price....AOD were a fairly new company and he was a 1/4 size (big enough to start off with)

And when did you know that this doll should be your first? The buyer sent pictures of two Wang Zis he had in stock and I knew straight away which one I wanted.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one? Not at all. He was perfect from the minute he arrived. The quality was (and still is) amazing for what I payed. I have a Volks doll now and it rivals that, beats it on poseability actually.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it? He's an Angel of Dream Wang Zi. I still own every doll I bought

I kind of just saw her for sale and went for it. All the doll forums/communities that I'm part of don't often have BJD's for sale. So when I saw one for cheap I kind of jumped at the chance. And I hate ebay so I kind of ruled out that option.

Sometimes I wish I would have been more picky. Her face-up kind of sucks and I assumed I could do one since I can do pullip face-ups. This didn't really hold true sadly =\
