Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

Jul 28, 2008

    1. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

Well, I browsed a lot of websites, starting with Volks (where I was originally tempted by Kun), but when a friend of mine found Iplehouse and linked me to their lovely molds, I could hardly say no. Only then, it was deciding male or female. Originally I was going to order a female, but at the very last minute I changed my mind and designed a male. And Mars really stood out to me when I saw his Full-Version set. I was heartbroken when I saw it was sold out (but I still got the face-up, so yay!)

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

I wish I could say love at first site, but I browsed right over him the first time. When I decided to get a male, I knew it was going to have to be him. I needed an androgynous face, and after seeing owner pictures of him and his make-up... I decided to go through with it (thus how I found DoA! I was looking for their feedback. ._.)

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

Not at ALL. Admittedly when I ordered Freezia, I cancelled 5 minutes later. I will never, ever do that again. But I kenw she wasn't the right first doll because I freaked. When I ordered Mars, who was a LOT more expensive (thank you, DoD, for the clothes), I didn't freak out at all. I was thrilled! Though now I would like to get Freezia at some point...

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

Iplehouse Mars Y.I.D. Basic (w/ LE Ver. Face-up). And of course I do. So far he's my one and only doll.

Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present

I wish it was a present, but then I probably couldn't have customized him like I did, ... but I kind of wish that I was spending someone else's money instead of my own!

    2. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Hours and hours and hours and hours of deliberation. I finally decided I wanted Notdoll Belladonna because I wanted a doll with a unique face. I LOVE her partially parted lips--I'm a SUCKER for pouty lips!

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Well, the initial idea came across my mind when I saw her on the Luts website some years ago. I saw her and knew I wanted her someday.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

Not unhappy at ALL, but now I wish I had more dolls hahaha.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Notdoll Belladonna and she is still my one and only. :3

Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Yep! I chose it all by myself! lol. HAHAHA I wish! *wallet implodes*

    3. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I wanted an MSD, but I wasn't sure which doll to get, so I thought I'd look through all the doll company websites to see if there were doll features I liked, features I didn't, etc.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When her picture loaded. A domadoll Goni. Oh my word, she stole my heart away and I just couldn't see myself owning any other doll before her.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I haven't even gotten her yet! I can see myself getting a little upset about her size (she's a 1/3, not an MSD as I originally planned), since my other dream doll is a Lati white Kong (who's smaller than my palm!), but I can't see myself regretting the purchase. She's beautiful, and so versatile, I don't think I'll ever get bored of dressing her!

    4. Wow, My post is pretty much going to duplicate the one above me but here goes!

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

I Also wanted an MSD but I looked at EVERYTHING including minis! I was so overwhelmed I was really just trying to find a "one stop shop" type of site and ran across Denver Doll Emporium where I saw my first Elfdoll Red. I knew immediately this was the one for me. He is way more expensive than I planned so I am saving up for him and a larger than I had wanted so I am a little nervous but at this point NOTHING could change my mind. I have even had dreams about him lol :)

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

Don't have him yet but I don't think anything about him will be dissapointing. I have done a lot of research so I know what to expect so I think that puts me ahead of the game :)

    5. how did YOU decide which doll should be your first? And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

I knew I wanted to make a Luma doll IF I ever decided to get one. She was my first oc and so very dear to my heart. I didn't decide I was getting one till I found the one I knew had to be Luma. I shopped/browsed doll sites for weeks looking at faces until I found one that just screamed to me that it was her face. I did find other dolls I thought were beatiful and that I'd love to have, but just weren't her.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish/did you wish that you've ordered another one?

She's still on layaway so, no I'm not unhappy about it yet. I don't think I'd wish I'd ordered a different one. So far in 10 years pretty much nothing about Luma has disappointed me so I'm figuring this won't either.

    6. NO QUESTION on how esy it was to pick my first. Love at first sight ^^

    7. I have just recently bought my first doll :3 (well I have bought the doll head, the body will have to wait until later XD) He's a Migidoll Yuri and I decided on him because of an image I had in my mind. I already knew what I wanted the doll to be like, but funnily enough I wanted a different doll for a while before I decided to buy a Yuri head sculpt. I decided about a week before I could order, and suddenly my mind just went 'wait a minute... no... I want this one' XDDD

I'm very happy about my decision now; It's all been confirmed so it doesn't feel like I could possibly have any other doll anymore. Sometimes I do wonder what I might be missing out on in the doll world but I think once he's here (and I've sorted his body out :doh) that I'll be completely content.

And finally, the head is going to be a christmas present from my parents :)they didn't have a clue what to do for me this christmas but they've seriously tried their hardest to get something for me that's pretty expensive, I feel pretty damn lucky, although everything else is completely up to me XD

    8. My first doll is still my dreamdoll and if there was a way, I'd want to get all the versions released of him! My first doll is a Custom House Hyun and I got him almost three years ago :)

    9. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

      I spent a lot of time (almost a year) researching different doll companies, types of resin, every mold I could find before I saw the Dollzone Hong and decided he should be my first...and then ended up with a LeDoll Adonis. ^_^;

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

I had made the decision to start saving for the Hong when I ran across a picture of a doll modeling an outfit for sale...and fell absolutely in love with the doll. He looked exactly like one of my original characters that I had never even planned to make a doll of! ^_^; I looked all over the place to find out what he was and purchased him about a month later.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. Every time I look at him I fall in love with him all over again. ^_^ I still plan on getting my Hong someday, but I definitely don't regret buying the Adonis first.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

Yoru - LeDoll Adonis. I still have him and I probably always will. =D When a doll sculpt speaks to you, it's best to listen. Easiest way to be happy with your choices.

    10. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
The first doll I ever saw was the Noctarcana Tatiana and I found her completely by accident but I thought she was beautiful :) That was ten months ago, and it has only been the past two months that I really committed to this hobby. I found her again and ordered her two days ago (the normal version), simply because she started it all off.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Well I was looking at certain dolls and actually going to buy a Dollmore male Pado but I was slightly undecided. Then I remembered Tatiana and I just sort of... knew she had to be my first. I can't wait for her to arrive, I don't think it would have been right having another doll as my first
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No I'm still excited about her coming. I suppose I wasn't very adventurous but I'm planning on owning a few (providing I can find some other dolls that I can bond with) so I'm glad she's my first.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Heh. I don't own her yet... and she still doesn't have a name *_* But it's the Iplehouse Tatiana and I don't plan on getting rid of her... but then there wouldn't be much point on buying a doll you plan to get rid of I suppose.
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Yep I chose her and I'm spending my birthday money on her, so does that count as a present? ...No, not really. She's a present to myself :)

    11. When I first got the money to get a BJD I wanted to get a kitty doll. I initially wanted a Luts Baha, and went through all the steps to get it but for some reason the site wasn't taking my card. So I shopped around on other sites for any other kitty dolls I liked and stumbled upon Fairyland's Puki Pukisha.

It was basically love at first sight and I ordered her. I still have her (for over a year now, yay!) and I'll never sell her, mainly because I love her so much and she holds so much sentimental value for me. I don't regret getting her at all. Best money I ever spent!

    12. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I looked at every site. Ever. XD That and I needed something that wasn't too expensive.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I saw owner pics! I didnt like the site pictures of Seorin but when I saw owner pics I was all "DO WANT".
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No way. Hes so pretty. :D Though sometimes I wish he was SD sized.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
MNF Seorin :> And yes, I still have him. I only got him on the first of October.

    13. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
It was slightly impulsive in that my friend was ordering in one of the Custom House sales and she asked if I wanted to get in on her order. I always liked Hani's mold, but I never did think I was going to buy her... but I just went for it and I'm glad I did.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When my friend placed the order. XD I was kind of skeptical that there would be no bond, but BOY was I wrong!
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No, aside from the fact that now I REALLY want an SD, because you can only do so much with a tiny.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Custom House Ange Ai Hani. Yes, I still own her. She's only been here since September. :P
Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Yes, I chose it, but I was sort of limited to ONLY Custom House because of the circumstances, and it wasn't a gift. My other two incoming dolls are gifts though. :)

    14. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
i fell in love with kid delf hoodoo when i first saw it, i just knew it should be mine and be a girl
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
in November last year, when i saw her
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
no i have always liked her, but i was a little sad i ordered her without faceup
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
she is a kid delf hoodoo girl from luts and i have her still

    15. Okay. I read an article about BJD's in Shoujo Beat magazine way back in June 2007, that's what got me into it. I found Volks and DoA and all of that good stuff, and I wanted one just for the sake of having one. I didn't do research at all- but I also never got the initiative to save for one-but I wanted a Volks Megu.
In July of this year, I realized how very much I loved them, so I joined Den of Angels (it had changed a bunch since I looked at it in 2007....). I researched and found out about luts.
So, for a while I wanted a kid delf Lemon
      Then Litchi
      Then Mocha
      Then Lemon again
      Then Litchi again
Now I'm at an Aru Girl. I don't think I'll change my mind. My parents are getting me one for Christmas- so it may be a Lemon or a Litchi....
We plan on ordering them as soon as I can figure out the paypal thing on Luts....

    16. I just ordered my first doll a few weeks ago (a DOI Luke), but I chose him almost a year ago I think. I looked at every doll site I could find and started narrowing down my choices. I wasn't going to buy one unless I absolutely loved it. I narrowed my list down and I don't think Luke was even in my top five at first. I kept coming back to him though. I looked through owner pictures of the dolls I wanted and kept finding little things I didn't like, but for some reason I just kept going back to the Luke. I guess he grew on me and now hes on his way!

    17. i'm still not 100% sure, but i'm so close (like 99.9%) to it i'll answer these.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I noticed a pattern with me, how i tend to be drawn towards boys, that can look like a boy and a girl, who have a very soft expression, with parts of it, if looked at right, can be strong, and always a natural faceup. I want a SeiRei Yugiri, but they're rare...so i browsed more, and found i LOVE Dolkot's Lai. :) Wich i will be ordering at the end of next month, more then likely. :D

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
It was the 2nd doll i came across, thatmade my stomach turn because i loved the way it looked, and because of how much i wanted it.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
      -
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
      -
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
      it'll be a present, but i'll choose him :3

    18. My actual choice for my first doll didn't become my first doll and is in fact no longer on my wishlist. Also, my first doll wasn't even an entire doll. It was just a head. A Koodoll (Ms. Doll) Tely. I was browsing y!J and this head caught my eye but the auction was ending in s few hours and I, being a newb, didn't know about places like Rinkya and Shopping Mall Japan. So I followed the url to the makers site and found a link for an ebay auction and won (of course).

It wasn't a hard decision to purchase him because once I'd seen his face I knew i had to have him. I think i moped for a few days after the y!J auction ended because I wanted him so bad.

I do still own him although he has gone through a few faceup changes.

    19. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was looking for 2 dolls for my characters. I came across him on the company website, fell in love instantly. If I could only have 1 doll, it'd be him.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
He was expensive and I don't want an impulse buy. I kept looking at his pix for 2 months and finally I persuaded myself that I'd love him not only because of who I wanted him to be, but for who he is.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Never. I love him to pieces. My only regret was the time I wasted on making the decision to buy him. He is still with me now and it's just impossible for me to sell him. I won't say he is my fave as other dolls of mine may envyXD, but he probably is.

What's really hard for me is not choosing my first doll but quitting this hobby/stopping buying more! XDD

    20. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
The first dolls I came in contact with were Bobobies, but the one who introduced me to dolls knew of many sites and shops. When I started looking, I really had no clue what I wanted. I saw tons of dolls in many sizes and prices that I thought were beautiful, and it was overwhelming.

The only thing I did know was that I wanted one boy and one girl in the same scale. I eventually decided I wanted smaller ones, I wanted fantasy friendly sculpts (since I have tons of stuff like that already) and for the two to have different skin tones. They had to have a smile. Price was also an issue. I didn't want to break the bank on something that I may not like in the end.

With that, I fell back to Bobobie, and eventually realized that two of their 27CM tinies fit what I wanted to a tee, and I fell hard for them. I finally settled on getting a Bei, the girl, first, in normal skin. After I got her and worked with her a bit, I was going to get a Bao, in light tan skin.

Well, about a week after ordering her, I got marketplace access, and saw a Light Tan Bao in new condition up for sale at a great price. I snatched him up, and the boy hit my doorstep first. A few weeks after that, she finally came. And that's how I got my first(s).

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that
      you've ordered another one?

I was never unhappy with either of them. I knew they were the one's I wanted. I had the normal crazy nerves, and BBB had to delay a lot of their orders a few weeks, including my Bei. Getting a doll as my first marketplace venture was also really nerve racking, but the seller I was purchasing from was very nice and patient with my newbiness. We still sometimes chat and he even keeps up with how his sold doll is doing with me.

I guess the only regret, if it even counts, was getting the boy first, when from the start I was bent on introducing everyone to her to explain the hobby.:sweat It didn't make a lick of difference in the end.
