Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

I won't have him for a couple of days yet, but...

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I had planned on a different doll, but there just happened to be a dealer close to me that just happened to need someone to fill her latest order, and there just happened to be no shipping costs (which is always the thing that kills me) so I signed up, even though I had never heard of the company before. Here's hoping it all turns out for the best! ^^;

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I found out there were no shipping costs, and I saw how beautiful he is.
I'm a terrible person lol.

We'll see next week; he should be here by then. I like to think he's going to be perfect, of course! ;P

Never had a doll before, uh, next week I guess. ;;

Well, it had to be an HZ, but I was able to choose which of the five I wanted.

Ah man, this makes me sound like a monster! I am really excited though; these last few days have been the worst. ;;

 

Honestly, I was at a con and happened to have a lot of spending money. I saw a junkyspot booth and stopped and gasped and freaked out a bit. And then selected one that was the size I wanted and affordable. I love her dearly, so I don't regret not having a huge choice. ^^

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
After a few years of on-off interest with BJDs, a friend of mine suddenly got into them, bought her first, and convinced me to join DoA where I discovered I could actually now afford to buy a doll and that there were more companies than I thought. I wandered around with not much interest until I stumbled across the Suntan Pado on Dollmore's website and it was like someone suddenly smacked me.
It was the first time I actually really wanted a doll.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I couldn't get him out of my head for weeks. His character just came to life, and no other doll could distract me from him.
Every time I found a Pado, I instantly recognized it. That's saying a lot when I couldn't recognize anything.
Eventually he even got a name, and that pretty much sealed it. He HAD to be mine.

If I had to keep only one doll for the rest of my doll-owning life, it would be him.
So no. I was and still am thrilled to have him.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
He's a Dollmore Suntan Pado named D, with a custom face up (which is perfect) and an I'm-so-tough attitude. I would never give him up.

Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
He was sorta a present. My boyfriend saw how obsessed I got, and how excited I was, so he split the price with me. Considering my collection has grown since then, it makes me wonder if he regrets his decision xD

 

Ahh, there's a kind of complicated story behind my first doll.
At first, i wanted to buy a Kid Delf Ani. Then there was this period when the Kid Delf's were being temporary put as "not for sale" because they were changing the bodies with the new real skin bodies. I, being the n00b i was, trought they were discontinued and that i was never going to get an Ani. So, i started looking for another mold, and after looking in all other sites for other molds, having a short lived love for DollZone Shoyu (is that her name?) i went back on the Kid Delf page. Then, i noticed Aru, her pinkish cheeks and cheerful smile, with those delicate lines... It was as if she was telling me "don't worry! I'm here!" ... And, as a storyteller would say, the rest is history.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

I did a long research... Visited so many sites, compared owner pictures, read about companies, and so on.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
That may sound weird, but it just hit me when I first saw her. I fell in love immediately.
I swear I was so excited I almost started to cry!
I couldn't stop thinking "That is the one! It's her!! I can't believe I found her!..."
I guess I felt a bit like Sara from A Little Princess when she first met Emily
And her company isn't new or unknown, so I don't know why it took me so long to finally visit that specific site.

An Iplehouse Tania - she's my only doll for now ...

I was browsing around different doll sites, when I came across Luts. I knew I didn't want a larger ones so I started looking at the smallest first, but when I came across Bory in the Kid Delf section.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
It was love at first site, I knew I had to have him.

Even after coming across new doll sites and seeing all the new molds, I never really strayed from him. I was determined to get him.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Kid Delf Bory will be my first doll and I can't really picture myself ever selling him.

He is a present and I did get to choose him.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Through... well. I knew which company I wanted to order from (LUTS) as it was pretty much the only company I felt really comfortable navigating the site. I'm a bit of a newbie still, so some of the intricacies of working around some doll sites (like, how to add makeup option? Or something) kind of escaped me. Furthermore, I liked the headsculpts of the CP delfs - more stylized is love. ^^ I was actually eyeing the Yder and EL - I thought that Yder's eyes were too big, but EL's nose was very... Impressive. So it was really a toss up.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Well I like to find out friends' opinions, so for a week or two I spammed everyone on my MSN list with "This or that?" and took a poll. I had them point out the flaws/good things about each sculpt, and then weighed it to myself.

No, not at all - although for a brief moment we had difficulty bonding, but it was because there was a shipping mix up with him, and a LOT of anxiety with sending the wrong parcel back to LUTs, and all that (long story!) - but now we're right as rain and I'm spoiling him rotten... ;-;

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
CP EL - and yes, of course. He's my perfect airhead and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Duh, yeah, and my parents weren't too happy either, so it definitely wasn't a pressie. xD

 

Camine was one of the very first bjd's I saw years ago. I fell in love with him then but never dreamed I'd actually get the chance to own him. When the opportunity arose financially to purchase a bjd recently. Camine was my only choice. I have since looked at many other of the beautiful SD boy dolls and think "what if" But then I see a pic of Camine and I know I've made the right choice for me.

Still waiting for him to come home. But at least I know he will be here soon.

 

i didnt know much about bjd when i ordered my first (and only, so far) doll i should have waited because now im tryign to sell mine. a dollzone lotus . sd size. anyone interested? lol.
lol anyway.. i am unhappy with my choice.
my advice is.. search .. alot.. ask other doll owners.. and dont settle for least expensive.

Well i still have yet to get my first doll but ive already decided it will be a minifee shiwoo. It was love at first sight.

It was a very spontanous decision, because Megu wasn't available when I've decided to order a doll and I didn't want to wait. Then I've seen Alice and I thought that she's the perfect first doll, because she came with wig, face-up and nightie. It was also nice that the wig was black (this was very important for me) and she was quite inexpensive, too.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I think, I knew it at the moment at which I've seen her for the very first time.

I've bought my Serendipity Alice on February 15th 2005 and I still own her. I can't imagine to sell one of my dolls.

I really wanted a NRFB one, so when I saw one for not too much money wich I really liked I bought it.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was searching for some time unable to decide. I wanted a cheaper one since I didn´t know whether I´ll be able to stick with this hobby. But then I found instock Doll Familly Xuan on ebay for a good price and since he was lovely and I am so impatient I just bought him.

The moment I clicked buy it now button XD

Those two weeks before he arrived I was over and over wondering whether I shouldn´t get another doll...searched more and choose wiser despite for the wait. But in the end when I oppend the box I found myself falling for him at once.

Just got him today so I still own him

 

When I first majorly got into BJDs, I was going to get a SOOM doll to be my first. (There was a few molds I had my eye on.) But, alas, when I went to Japan for a few days, and got to see the VOLKS store there, I feel head over heals in love with the Sara mold I couldn't resist and bought her on the spot! And that was my first doll..

When I saw a picture of him I couldn't believe it but when I saw him in real life I knew I had to have him

No I still love him and he is more special to me than the others.

Limited Dollzone Quinn and I still own him and I am not planning on Selling him.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Kind of complicated, the first BJDs that I remember really "seeing" (as in I'd seen them before but they hadn't really grabbed me) were the Peaks Woods Sky/Skiya for the Haute Doll Halloween feature and I totally fell in love with them, but knew I shouldn't let myself spend so much money on a doll, so tried to forget about them (yeah, right!!!)

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I managed to convince myself that it was just a passing whim but wound up buying a cheaper third/fourth hand doll on ebay, a Soul Doll MSD... which I wasn't entirely happy with so sold, and so on...

I have now ordered the PW Skiya and just wish I'd done that straightaway rather than wasting more money on other dolls that weren't my first love! Will I still love her when I get her, well she's taking so long (13 weeks and counting) that a Luts Lishe has actually gotten in there first... and I LOVE her

The Soul Doll got sold on, then I bought a DIM Odelia which I still have, and a few other second hand dolls. Lishe is my first brand new doll, even though I ordered Skiya 2 months earlier. I think the new dolls will be much harder to part with

He just immediately stood out to me. I found a doll owner's personal site and looked at her dolls, she had about six, and the one just called out to me and said "Take me home "

When I found out my cousin could order the FCS version of the same head mold for me. It just worked out too well.

I wasn't unhappy with him, but I didn't like his face up.

Volks FCS F-15 SD13 Pureskin white boy and yes.

Yep I chose him, but my parents made him a combined Christmas and high school graduation present.

I had initially been hesitant about getting into bjds, I admired photos of them but I never found one that had really made me take the leap into owning one myself. A friend of mine posted up pictures of little fee Ante when she was announced and I fell over heels for her, I just had to have her.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Seeing how she was first bjd that really made want to get into bjds, I figured she would be my first although at the time I had also intended her to be my only one ^^;

After seeing how utterly taken with her I was my hubby agreed to get her for me as a Christmas gift last year (although she didn't arrive until after Christmas).

 

No , certainly not unhappy with my choice ..i loved the facemould of the fairyland dolls and that was the deciding factor for me ( above everything else ).

 

It wasn't too hard to pick my first.. At the time there weren't too many I actually LOVED.. so I only really had two that I couldn't decide between. I don't even remember how I stumbled on them, but I didn't know about doa, and I didn't know what sites sold bjds either, google wasn't much help to me then, so that lowered my choices as well. But seeing El's stock photo, even if they were all just headshots, I knew he was the one!

When he arrived I knew he was PERFECT! Although now I kind of wish I hadn't gotten him in WS, but if he were NS I think his personality would have turned out different.. so.. I don't know...

My first was Luts CP El WS with.. peach faceup I think? I hope I'll always have him. I love him to death I bought him with my tax return >w<
