Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
One day, watching random dollfie videos on youtube I saw belladonna's migidoll miho haylee. It was like love at first sight, I HAD to have him. I have spent ages looking at different companies and artists, but I always go back to Miho. His character is built around his face, so he fits my OC perfectly.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
After maybe the tenth time I went back to Migi's site and thought Miho was just so much nicer than the doll I had been looking at before...

I can't really answer the rest, I still don't have him!!

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Hmm, mine is a second-hand Dollzone Hid, (I haven't got him yet) but I really wanted a Homme Ducan from DoD to be my first doll, but then I saw him and instantly fell in love with him and there was a pull that he should be my first doll.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I first saw him, just from the looks of it I knew that was the doll I wanted.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I worry that I may not love him as much as I hope, but that's how it is all the time, ya know? But I don't wish choosing him.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Like I've said, he's a dollzone Hid, he's second-hand and on layaway, I won't have him till next month.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I was able to choose him, but since my mum is helping pay for him he is my Christmas present.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Dob Libra is gonna be my first. When i first learned about BJD's and was browsing the different companies, it was the one doll that literally stood out to me. Saving up for him right now.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
The minute I saw him

Well I don't have him yet..but i doubt I'd be unhappy.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
My first was an AOD Chi. I decided to get him because he was cheaper and at that point I refused to spend over 300 for a doll. I hadn't had a lot of experience, I'd never seen a BJD in real life, and at the time I figured it would be a good starter that I could experiment with.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
After a lot of debate, though I was always sure I wanted an AOD.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Yes, I was unhappy. The Chi wasn't beautiful like other dolls, he came without a faceup, and I found that making clothing was harder than I'd expected. Overall, he was a disappointment, and after about six months of desperately trying to bond I stuffed him in a box and bought a DOI to replace the character. Had I been smarter, I would have bought one that I truly liked the look of, even if it cost me a bit more, because now I'm stuck with this Chi that I'm reluctant to sell but not really wanting anymore.

I was just surfing in different doll sites and then I lost my way to DollZone. I saw DZ Sakata and I liked it, but then I saw DZ Hid. That was love from the first sight. Cause he looked so much my character Yasu, who is character of my book.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

When I saw him. And realised that he would be best Yasu ever.

No, I have never regret that I buyed him.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

My DZ Hid - Yasu. I still own him cause I love him so much. I just can't think I should ever sold him away.

I buyed him totally myself. I didn't get any extra money from my mother or anything. So I was able to choose.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Originally I had intended on a Dream Of Doll Sha but of course, that was before the dramatic price drop in 2008 so he was suuuuuper expensive XD. So after pulling all the rubbery arrows of 'You can't have him!' from my body I staggered back to the site and sighed, not really sure if I would even find one that is superior in my form in being...cheaper, but still catch my attention.
And i can tell you, it wasn't easy TT_TT
So then I stumbled upon Homme Kirill by chance and that was when I was like, OMG! HE'S THE ONE!

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
At first sight of course XD

Well at one point yeah when I then found a H.Ducan. But then it aaaaaall vanished when I adjusted his wig more XDD

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My verry first doll was a Dream of Doll Homme Kirill which I named Shiki, and yes I still own him cause he's just darling XD

Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Well at first no, I couldn't then after a while of continuous saddening days, my mother decided to let me choose XD

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
The first doll I felt in love with was a Luts Bory, and in my little head he had to be the first. But when I began to think about why I loved this mold so much, I started to doubt. Meanwhile, someone was selling a DOC Tender Too and once again I felt in love.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
As said before, the doll was sold by a private individual and I was too afraid that someone else would buy him. I had to act quickly.

I love my little boy even if I don't interact with him pretty much. It is just my way to be, and I regret nothing. But I haven't forgotten my first love, my dear Bory. ^^

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll was a DOC Tender Too, and I still own him. But since I got him not long ago, it's not really surprising.

Extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I bought him all by myself, and I'm proud of it! >8]

 

It's kinda funny that I ran into this post right now as it's quite similar to the way that I ran into my first bjd purchase. Randomely. I guess I would have to say my first is an impulse buy, but she is definently a MUST have in my book! My friend has been showing me dollfies for years but it hasn't been till just this last year that I have fell head over heels for them. I think it was because I had only been seeing the simpler anime ones, I like anime so I don't know why those type of dolls didn't quite apeal to me :/ Then I laid eyes on soom dolls but alas I was too late to get any that I wanted. So I just continued saving up and searching telling myself that I would find THE perfect one at some point... I was just on the verge of buying a Minifee when my friend showed me .... Luna, an Iple House monthly!! I bought her on the spot! (well on layaway anyway) I know I will love her! I have been waiting for a good anthro doll! I didn't think I would even like her human part but now I have a whole story to go with her! I know I will love her so much and can't wait to get her!

 

It wasn't so hard... I just buy her. Couple clicks and she was mine.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? My best friend got me into the dolls, I didn't want to get into them, but she convenced me. She then began showing me every boy doll under the sun, and I just kept looking and looking until I found the perfect doll for me. I only planned to have 2, so was searching alot for the perfect doll to begin with.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first? Well I saw the company picture and really liked it right away. Then checked the database here, and that really sold me. I looked at others, but kept coming back to that one doll, I knew it would be my first.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one? I love my first doll, and while years down the road I can find he's head to be to big and round then I normally like/tend to like now, I still adore him.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it? CP Moon, and yes I still own him.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present? I was able to choose, but along the lines of 'other question', I kept it a secret from my best friend for about two days that I had ordered it. Just out of guilt that yes I had gotten into the hobby.

I only recently discovered BJD's a few months back. The one I saw and loved with was Sooah. I then lost the name of the site, and forgot about the doll altogether.

Recently I discovered Dandelion and ordered her so she was my first, then a few weeks later went into DDE and discovered Bellosse and Kassia, fell in love and have since ended up ordering DIM's Bellosse and Andrea. However, the last one I bought which was the first to arrive (as all others are being made) was the first one I ever saw and fell in Love with months back.....Sooah.

For me, it was availability and price. When I started in the hobby, I wasn't able to afford a big Volks doll.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
It was a marketplace photo of my girl in a messy wig and bad lighting that really struck me.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I was unhappy at first and didn't rehome her because I felt guilty. It took me some time, but the bonding happened and now I'm glad she was my first.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first full doll was a doc twing-key on serendipity 14 freyja body. I do still own her.

I chose her.

 

i searched for a long time, and i finally decided i wanted a bobobie apollo. but then i saw dollfie pluses and decided to get one of thiem because they were cheaper. i knew very little about the different sizes and stuff, so i didnt know what to expect. in the end i ended up paying the same amount as i would for a bobobie for things like clothes and wigs and eyes, and when he came i was dissapointed. i had wanted something bigger. then i realized how looked down upon they are and how they really arent even considered ball jointed dolls at all. that made me angry and i actually started to love him BECAUSE he was pursecuted against. (i'm weird like that, gotta protect the little man and what-not.) i am glad also though, cuz now i have the chance to get apollo again and he'll still be my first ball jointed doll. i love calhoun to death, and i enjoy making him tiny little cute clothes, but i want a real doll that DOESNT fit in my pocket or purse.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well I decided by price, (and my first doll was a Bobobie male Sprite who I named yoru)... Which is something you really should NEVER do when it comes to your first doll... Don't rush it because of money, save up for the doll you REALLY want.... And never buy based off price because you may regret your decision later on or be unable to bond with the doll... I know that I have had a hard time bonding with one of my dolls I bought based on price....

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I decided this should be my first doll when I realized it was not as expensive as other dolls (Once again never buy based on price), but it was his face that I fell in love with, he looked so cute and innocent and kind... Yet kind of nervous. This is how I knew this would be my first doll.

Truthfully yes I do wish that I would have waited longer and saved up longer for another one that I would bond with.. and truely wanted....

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was looking for a tiny because I already collected miniatures and made roomboxes. I also wanted a tan doll. I found Bobobie and loved the resin colors but really wanted a more mature doll. Since I couldn't find any, I had picked a little girl and was looking for wigs. Someone suggested Tinybear and when I saw her Fat fairy Coco-it was love. Best of all, Bobobie casts her dolls so I could get exactly the color I wanted.

As soon as I saw the sculpt, I knew I had to have her.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Coco in Dark tan with Mahogany tinybear wig and green eyes-the thought of her just makes me smile. She was a special order because of the dark tan resin and so worth the wait. She is my tiny warrior princess.

I saw him on ebay and knew I had to have him.

When I saw him! I fell in love!

My first doll was Unoa Lusis and I still have it : D *still in love with her*
It took ages to decide the mold XD I had many candidates and I kept changing my favorite and every week I had different one that I was going to buy :''D In the end my girlfriend showed me one Unoa someone was selling, and I fell in love with it. I had never even thought about getting one, plus she was really expensive, but I said yes anyway and couple weeks after that my first doll arrived home : D I have never regretted buying her n__n

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I have an avatar in Audition Online which I am so awfully fond of. I was thinking of making a plushie in his likeness but that's not really fun compared to BJDs. And I knew that for that character, I would like something anime-ish and is in the 10 inches range.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I was looking for a specific mold that should be dead-on with my Audi avatar. It took me a year to find him - Littlefee Shiwoo. Spending $400 for a doll is a big deal for me so I had to think it through - whether this new hobby is a practical choice or not. In the end, I realized that I have to have him because he really is my dream doll.

I was truly amazed and happy when I received my Littlefee so I was expecting the same feelings when my Glati arrived. But there was none so I had no choice but to find my Glati a new home.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Littlefee Shiwoo. Yep! I still own him. He's the only doll I have that I will never ever give up no matter the circumstances.

Well, i saw him in the marketplace on a forum, and I just fell in love with him, he fitted the character I thought op so well, I just had to have him.

When I saw him, (and the fun part, later I discovered 2 of my friends wanted to buy him as well but I got him first.. :P).

I'm still looking for my first doll, too many brands and beautiful faces LOL but I think I'm close to find the perfect one, now the problem is found the $$$
