Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

Jul 28, 2008

    1. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was browsing Dolls and Friends and saw Chitose and just fell in absolute LOVE!

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
The moment I laid eyes on him and his round little face. He stole my heart.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No. He was as wonderful in person as he was on the website.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
      Cherishdoll's Faith Chubby.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
      I chose him myself.

    2. From one hand, it was extremely hard *_* From another... it wasn't hard at all
It was hard, since I was looking for the perfect one for months. There were so many beautiful dolls, but none of them made me feel that way. You know... when you can feel it inside that s/he is who you were loking for.
And then I ran into a DF Lance on Ebay... totally random accident xD And it turned out to be a fatal one :) I immediately knew that he is the one. He made my heart skip a beat, for real (I know it sounds... weird but he really did) so I ordered him the next day. And I love him.
Of course I'm happy with my choice. He's beautiful. Even so he's a bit underrated, that even makes me prouder :wiggle

    3. I bought mine from the same place that a friend of mine bought hers; I didn't really look around much. I'm not too disappointed that I didn't, either.

    4. i saw pictures of other people's dolls online and had to get one! i did think for a long time about it first. i dont have her yet but she should arrive soon.

    5. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Ah well, it was weird. I'd always, always, always wanted a Crobidoll Yeonho and saved like crazy mad for him, until I saw Angell-Studio's Antonine modelling their 70 jointed hands for just one evening, saw him for real the following morning in A-S's Singapore-based dealer shop and just had to have him, that same model in the shop. And I did. Dante Hansen was mine within a month plus a week. <3

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I was in the shop and both my sneaky friend and the shopkeeper were chanting "You should geeet him~"

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I put Dante on a layaway, so I had plenty of time to think about if I was doing the right thing--though the deposits I made weren't refundable, of course. I was asking myself whether Dante was just a silly impulse, whether I should've really gotten Yeonho instead, whether I'd like how the sculpt looked after a while, whether I'd be able to bond with him, etc. But when I actually had him as mine, I just couldn't let go of him. He's definitely my most special boy even if he isn't my dream one, and I'm never giving him up for the world. :)

(And totally randomly, I saw a blank!Antonine head a while after I got Dante and the mold still looks hot in my opinion. XD)

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Angell-Studio Antonine, as I've mentioned, and duh of course XD

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Hell, I chose Dante myself. My parents wouldn't even dream of buying the clothes, let alone a full doll. :|

    6. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I'm not ashamed to say I just bought a doll impulsively at a con, without knowing much of anything about BJDs. I just went "Ooo, pretty!" and he was (relatively) cheap, so I got him.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Errrr, I don't know. When I realized my mother would actually buy him. XD

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I'm still very happy with my first doll. I've never had problems with him.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
He's an Angel of Dream Min, and I've have him for about a year and two months.

    7. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I made a list while saving up for my first one, w/c keeps on changing as time goes on.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I kinda saw it in my dreams, i was looking for stuff for her. Then when I saw Rosette Sakura, I knew it was her.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Somewhat, I really want to get a guy doll but I ended up w/ another girl. ^_^; Other than that {also her default wig and the shoelace thing} there's nothing to be unhappy w/.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Miyoubi is currently my first and only; and I think will be the only bjd I have for quite some time.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Yup. Yes... my present for myself.

    8. TBH, I went by price, so choosing my boy the first time wasn't difficult at all. It's choosing my fifth doll (hopefully an SD girl) that's been the real problem now that I actually have some money to spend on her! XD

      But, to answer the questions:

I was already browsing the cheaper dolls, and I came across Bobobie's An and I just knew- I can't really explain it, there was just this instant attachment. He looked best to me and none of the others could compare. (that's saying something too considering bobobie's lousy pictures) I'm actually completely happy with Maikah, I couldn't see my collection without him. I sometimes wish I'd slowed down a little in buying some of the others, but Maikah really was worth it in every way. I absolutely still have him (it's only been a year and a bit >.<;;) and I'd never sell him.

    9. I think my pukipuki, who is still in the works, chose me not me choosing her.

    10. 1.) It was SO hard... I went from company to company, model to model, until I found KDF Litchi. She looked like a little girl on her way to Disney World. When I was little, I never had the opportunity to go. Even now. So when I saw Litchi, I felt old childhood memories revamped and I smiled every time I saw the sculpt. Other Sculpts I liked were based off of characters I made up, which didn't really hold my interest since there wasn't much originality to customize them with. So when I saw Litchi, I found lots of possiblities - even though I had my eyes on a couple of Obitsu dolls.
2.) When I looked at more dolls and kept going back to Litchi.
3.) Nope. Proud to have her. Though, I wouldn't mind getting her a friend. X3
4.) LUTS KDF Litchi. And... yes. :D

    11. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I'd been researching BJDs for almost a year before i finally had the time and money to seriously consider buying one. I searched through several doll sites and narrowed those down to which sites had my favourite styles of doll. After that i stuck to those specific websites and made a list of which dolls from those sites i liked best. I tried not to think about it too hard- if i saw a doll i liked i simply made a note of it. After i had my list i started paying attention to individual details, from how much each doll cost to which eye shape i like best.
From that i was able to pick a doll i really felt drawn to, that was also at a price i could manage.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When i had my final wishlist made up, i took a break from looking at dolls to give myself time to think about the models I'd chosen. I'm terribly indesicive so i was a little bit worried about trying to chose which doll should be my first. Im also a big daydreamer, so naturally i started imagining the day my doll would arrive and what I would do with it. After a while i realised that when i went into these daydreams i almost always imagined each scene with one specific doll. I decided to trust my subconcious and buy the doll that kept popping up in my daydreams :)
(He was actually one of the first dolls i saw and i was instantly attracted to him, but i still searched through other sites just to be sure.)

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I just ordered my first doll this week, so i have still have some waiting to do before he arrives. Im very happy with my choice, and although there are lots of doll models out there id love to buy, Im glad i picked him to be my first.
My only regret is that the clothes and wig i ordered for him are almost exactly identical to the ones shown in his example photos (i also picked the default faceup option). I love how he looks in those photos, but i kind of regret my lack of originality. Since he's my first doll i was worried that if i bought something too different i might end up not liking the final effect. So i played it safe for now, and after the doll arrives im going to start experimenting with different wigs and accesories to make him unique :)

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first doll is going to be from Crobidoll, a Yeon-Ho type B. Im not going to name him until i get to hold him, but iv already got a 'character' and story worked out for him XD

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
It was my choice and my own money, but i still had to be careful with the overall cost because i had to borrow the paypal account of another family member since i dont have my own. I always pay them back fully whenever i do this, but they still dont like it if i spend too much, so im a bit limited, despite the fact i personally dont mind how much i end up spending on a doll :(

    12. HELP !! Im about to get my first doll !! But i dont know if you can attatch a souldoll head to a DOT new body .. ???

    13. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I wanted BJD for a long time. One day my friend said, that she's waiting a doll. Then I said, that this dolls are too expensive for me, but she called price, and I understood, that it should be mine! Next evening I received a link to the site. It was Resinsoul. And I began to choose my first doll.
She was only one, my favorite.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
She was so pretty, that I decided to by her, whatever happens. It was when I see her for the first time.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I'll never be unhappy with my choice. She's only one for me.
I see lots of different beautiful dolls every day, but for me my Lissa is the best. Forever.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Resinsoul Mei, called Lissa. She's with me, of course))

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I chose her. And she was my first expensive purchase (I spent a 4 month scholarship).

    14. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well I based the doll on the character- I had this look in my head... For a while I was set on getting Crobidoll Ys B type but then I saw Firson from Spiritdoll it just clicked! There was something about his face I guess pretty but boyish... and his body- I mean come on... :D
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Sef is my lovely male dream character! He was the first one I created for my story- and the main character actually. I think that's why I decided on him first- that and because I hadn't found dollfies to match my other characters at the time.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
That's exactly why I canceled the crobidoll order- I almost paid for him too! I had to go through hell and back to figure out how I was going to get my money back lol REALLY BAD... yeah first time buyer. Lesson learned!
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
      I haven't received my dollfie yet :/

    15. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
It wasn't so much a decision-- I wanted all the dolls I saw on DoD, but I just felt compelled to buy Vae (DoC Twing-key) upon first laying my eyes on her. However, something unfortunate happened and she is no longer in my possession. :(

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
She was really cute and I had never seen such beautiful dolls before I saw a BJD on dA...! The mold I happened to see on dA happened to be from DoD, the company I bought my first doll from. As for when this happened... I believe I found the magical world of BJDs when I was in 7th or 8th grade, could be earlier, but I know it was during my middle school years.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Never once have I regretted getting Vae! I was and still am very happy with my first doll (just wish I still had her...).

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Like I said before, a Dream of Doll DoC Twing-key. ^^ And as I've been expressing grievances over her, no I don't own her anymore...

Extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Yes, I was able to choose her and it was a present for... I think I asked for nothing for my birthday and Christmas, so she was my gift for both celebratory events. ^^

    16. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well I looked at tons and tons of different sites. The first site I looked at was Luts on recommendation of a couple friends who had gotten dolls from there. In the end after visiting all those other sites I returned to that first one. I just liked them the best. Plus the summer event they're holding really helped seal the deal. Just picking out a particular one was the hard part.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
It was a really hard choice... I knew I wanted a boy and not much else. In the end I decided on which one I thought was cutest!

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Technically I don't have him yet! Soon... soon though!

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
It will be a Kid Delf Ani boy! And I don't own him yet... but he'll be here soon!

    17. It's been a year, and I still haven't 100% decided which one I want to get first.

Although, even though I like a lot of dolls, there's only a very select few that just scream out to me "MUST HAVE."
Can't really answer the last three since I don't have one yet X'D

    18. Hi, I'm pretty new to all of this -- it's my first day in DOA! -- so my response is going to be the most uneducated.

How did you decide which doll should be your first (and when did you know)?
I recently read a (non-BJD-related) blog post that referenced a Super Dollfie. I had no idea what the writer was talking about, so I Googled it. That led me to the Volks USA Website, and more research led me to Den of Angels, and finally Super Dollfie groups on Flickr. I was particularly captivated by the SD Mimi pictures. I love anime, and I fell in love with her huge eyes and her tiny pouty face.

I had no idea how to buy my first BJD (is there such a thread here? I'd like to read it!), so I bought the Standard SD Mimi. It was a huge thing, to wrap my mind around paying essentially $800 for a doll, wigs and three sets of eyes. I realize my poor Standard Mimi isn't very exciting or unique, but from what I read, I think I can find a good faceup artist and make her a little more my own? Anyway, she's on her way. Haven't received her yet.

After I ordered her, I started looking around on eBay (ooh, I hope I'm not breaking a rule by mentioning that?) to see what other dolls looked like. There, I found a Luts Delf Soo -- Dark Elf Girl, pictured at left as my AV pic. I'm not sure if I even got that name right - I'm still learning the lingo. After I saw her, I couldn't stop thinking about her -- honestly, it was like she was meant for me -- so I ordered her later that evening. She's on her way as well.

I laugh because I was reluctant to pay the $600-plus dollars for the Volks Standard SD, and I ended up paying twice as much for TWO "first dolls."

      Happy with choice/still own?
I'm sure they will be the first of many, and I'm positive that I'll cherish them forever.

Yeeks, I already have my eye on another Luts Delf Soo - Dark Elf. This is an expensive hobby. (smile)

    19. Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?
I just sold something very rare and very dear to me because I couldnt get it to look how it was supposed to. The stuff that went with it was hard to maintain and to find so I began looking for my one true dollfie in its place. I wanted a girl to dress up like myself or my personality reflected from my type of world. Thus the search began. I searched auction sites, every bjd maker I had heard of or run across and every thing I could think of. I honestly wanted one of the Nia, Shinku or Suiseiseki dollfies because they were so unique and beautiful but I couldnt justify their prices. I really almost gave up and thought I made a mistake until I got it down to two dolls and right before I made my decision I randomly found Toshi-chan. She was the one instantly:3nodding:
How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? The way she stood out. Like she was calling to meXD
And when did you know that this doll should be your first? At once I have yet to recieve her, but Im so happy to have bought her. The woman who had her for sale was very nice and helpful which made me feel even more comfortable with my decision.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I have yet to recieve her, but Im so happy to have bought her. The woman who had her for sale was very nice and helpful which made me feel even more comfortable with my decision. I still plan to get Yukino for my birthday, so no worries:D
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?Leira from Angell Studio. She will be mine forever.
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
      She was my decision^^

    20. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

After looking at so many doll molds, I started to get an idea of the kind of face shape I liked. The dolls I found with that particular face shape went at the top of my list. The doll mold I finally decided on - AE Jiao Jr - was actually the first one I recognized outside of the company website. If I could recognize her mold without being told her name and company, there must be something about her that really charms me!

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

Three-six months of looking between classes, a little bit at home. Maybe I just got tired of looking.XD

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

She isn't here yet! But there aren't any other molds I like enough to spend this much money to purchase. And since I'm so cheap, she'll probably stay my only doll.XD
