Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

Jul 28, 2008

    1. My first doll is my Dollmore Pado in my avatar picture. I searched around lots of sites, comparing sculpts and bodies, trying to decide which one I would chose for my first doll.

...Then I saw the Pado sculpt on the Dollmore website, and I instantly fell in love. So it was love at first sight for my first doll. I still have him, and I still love him (and his sculpt) as much as I did when I first had him.

    2. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
At first when I met the hobby I noticed on the wrists of their appearance, their faces, their clothes ... but once more comocí and decided to buy a hobby and I've seen others that I liked more than those first ... The first thing I had in mind was the price because I have little money and spend $ 600 is a luxury I can not afford, but fortunately there are much more asqueibles molds, is the second hand market ... so I'm choosing to think a bit of everything. Anyway, what I decide is to find the mold that fits the idea of personality I want on my wrist. And also the "crush" for now I have only one head, a kid delf LUTs litchi I fell in love and the market is a forum for my country ... I'm saving for the body and although I looked at the price, the quality of resin, let me also posabilidad guided by the heart ... I love soulkid or diamond mode of dollndoll (so I only need to decide between them.)

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Well, even before buying it was clear not only looked from the ones I liked but once I saw it clear ... that would be my doll.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

For now I am very happy with my choice and would not want anyone else.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Well, I have not yet complete but it is my first doll and I do not think the band ever, I'm very sentimental but also very cerebral. When I choose my choice I am sure and certain that although in the future to please let me not trade it for anything in the world, so it'll be my first baby

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
n fact the first that I had if it was a gift, but a small dollfie (no BJD) ... clear that they knew what I wanted so it's as if he had chosen.

    3. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
When I started looking into BJD's I got pointed to Fairyland Pukifee dolls by a friend. I really liked their price, availability of clothes and of course their posability and cuteness of the sculpt! So I decided that my first doll would be a Pukifee. But I liked Ante, Bonnie and Zoe, so I still had a hard time choosing between those three. Eventually I decided on Ante, but changed my mind to Bonnie quickly afterwards. Once Bonnie was ordered I never doubted my decision anymore.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I like her face, quite a lot. She has an expression that just really speaks to me. Once I made my decision I knew what I wanted her to look like and what kind of girl she was, and I liked that!

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Nope! I'm perfectly satisfied. The only thing I regret is not looking into other kinds of dolls much, because I was so focused on Pukifee girls. I could have looked into MSD's a bit more. But I still don't fret about it, because an MSD is next on my list :)

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Pukifee Bonnie, and I'm not ever parting with her!

    4. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I looked through tons and tons of companies and dealers. There were lots of gorgeous BJDs that I loved and wanted, but then I stumbled across an Illusion Spirit dealer and that was the end of my indescision. I knew I had to get Zhu Qing because he was a 1/4 but still looked more mature than most 1/4 dolls, which was exactly what I wanted.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
The very first second I saw the company photos. But I waited a few months to make sure that I really did love him. Yes, I did.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No. I was nervos about waiting for him to arrive, afraid something would happen to him in shipping, and other things like that, but I never regretted my doll choice.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Hahahaha! That would be Zhu Qing from Illusion Spirit. I do still have him (I only have for a few weeks now), and he is currently an only doll.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Originally he was going to be a birthday present from my parents to me, but I got too excited to wait for my birthday to order him (and then two months for him to reach me!) and so I bought him myself. Either way I would have been the one picking him out, though.

    5. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
The doll I really wanted to be my first was a limited Luts Spica. I searched and searched for dolls with similar features (the beautiful pouty lips, the soft eyes) and finally came across Iplehouse, and Tania. I decided I had to have a Tania and I've been saving for her ever since. (I would be in trouble if someone ever had a Spica for sale though....I'd probably sell my soul for one. :P)

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I just knew when I looked at her that I wanted her and that she was giggling like, "It took you this long to figure it out?! I've been waiting for you!"

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Well, I'm working on putting a Tania on layaway and so far I'm not unhappy. I've already picked her out a sister from Dollmore. XD and her boyfriend (whose either going to be an Iplehouse gentle Soori or a Dollmore boy).

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Tania will be my first and I haven't gotten her yet, but I hopefully will in about a month and a half or so. :D I plan on keeping her for a long, long time, if not forever.

    6. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I didn't really decide, it just happened. As a fashion doll collector, I was determined not start with BJDs, but the local dollshop had this adorable Narae that I admired every time I went to her shop. She mentioned one day that she had decided to sell her and I couldn't resist. I had admired her for so long and I already had some sort of a wardrobe for her.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Not in the least, she's still my favorite.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
She's a 2004 Narae classic and I still adore her.

    7. Not even a little hard. The first doll I ordered was a Lati Yellow Coco. I had seen her posing with a Blythe on the Blythe board. And while waiting the 3 months for her I found Doa and saw an AOD Liu Yin mini in WS and bought her. She arrived before Coco so I guess she is the first. I still have them both, love them both, and would never sell either of them (or any of my others for that matter, as one person said about herself "I am a black hole doll owner." this applies to me also)

    8. Which doll was your first and do you still own it? Keiyoko: Obitsu 60cm doll with Haruka head...yes I still have her just got her this year April/May...haven't bonded with her at all though since she is still with my friend who is doing her blushing and faceup.
How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? Well I still wasn't sure which doll I wanted I researched quite a few and Volks and Obitsu were the first that I found out about then I came across Resinsoul/Bobobie. Looked through Junkyspot, Denverdolls and other similar sites. And eventually ebay where I found her for a great price.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first? When the bid was down to the last 30minutes, she was purely an impulse buy and I couldn't pass up the deal.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one? Yep I did get unhappy with my choice I was instantly regretful, thinking I should of just used that $$ to get the Resinsoul doll I was eyeballing. But things worked out well I received her was very excited a tad uncertain if I would like her or not. Am still awaiting her to come back from her faceup, I may just have to kidnap her back and do it myself. And I eventually go my Resinsoul doll 2 months later.
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present? Yep I chose her she was a present to myself.

On a side note, it does not get any easier whether it is my first doll or 5th doll. I see so many dolls in MP and think wow she/he is beautiful I must have, but then I tell myself buy the ones I have on my list to create my characters first and then we'll see. But like I said even with those that I know I want to get it is still a hard decision...which to get first and which head mold will be best for this or that character.

    9. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well, it was love at first sight  But then (it was almost 2 years ago) I didn't ever thought that it was possible to buy him.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Hmm, roughly six months ago, when I began thinking seriously about buying BJD. "Whom to buy" - it wasn't the question for me. ;)
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No, not a second. I love him even more when I saw my boy "alive".
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Yes, he's with me. Dollmore Youth Adam - Kara Klum.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Yes, I was able to chose it - it was my own purchasing.

    10. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

It Wasn't difficult at all ... When I saw her on Materiel Celeste ... I know it would be the first one !

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

Only when I opened the box (it was a gift)

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

No ... Currently , I have 3 pukis , but Circé (my first one) remains my favourite !

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

Circé : my Pukipuki Rose ! And I love her like the first day !

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?

It was a present , but i saw her before my friend buy it to me !

    11. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

I knew I wanted a Soom girl to be my first doll. I waited a couple of months and finally Breccia was released and I knew she was the one for me.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

At first look I wasn't so sure, I had stayed up late for her release and was very tired. But when I woke up the next morning I couldn't stop looking at her.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

I had worried while she was being made that maybe I should have started smaller, and with a cheaper doll instead of jumping into a Soom MD full-set, but when she arrived I was so excited. And I loved her from the first moment I saw her.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

Well, I doubt I will ever sell a doll I buy, its just not in my nature. Even if I would tho I could never part with Breccia. She is my first and the most special to me.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?

      I chose her myself :)

    12. I decided on my first doll per reccomendation from Yahoo Answers. I asked, "What's a good place to buy BJD's?"

And they gave me a link to iplehouse.
I knew from the get-go that I wanted a smaller doll, and that I wanted a boy. I looked at the MSD boys, and fell in love with Vito. But after careful consideration, I decided that I didn't want to get a boy, because of the bulky bodies they had.

So I looked at the girls, and tania pretty much jumped out of the screen at me. And I've loved her ever since.

    13. Picked out my first doll wan't that hard for me. it was actually hitting the pay now button. I have never spent that much money before in person, let alone online, and it was so nerve racking. But now sending the money is no problem, which is a problem, lol.

    14. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I looked on Ebay for a BJD and the first one that caught my eye was a DZ Hid. So from there I googled Dollzone and fell in love with Megi. I then learned that it would be easier to buy from Denver Doll Emporium or Junkyspot. There, I clicked on the Bobobie link and I liked their prices. I fell in love with Mei, and bought her immediately.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Pretty much when I saw her. I did wait a few days to make sure she was great, but in the end, I did get her.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
      Nope. I haven't regretted her.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
She's a RS Mei, and her name is Faye. I still own her and she is actually getting a new body soon.

    15. I browsed all the manufacturers that made dolls with my kind of style.
I wanted something that would be easily "resold" just in case dolls weren't for me.
Price wasn't much of an issue, more like whether I liked the feel and personality potential that the doll could have if it was in my hands

    16. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I made a wish list. I put the one i wanted the most at the top and then by Expense i had a seperate for dolls that are no longer made so i can keep an eye out fort hem. my first was fantasia then the drow from old world followed by the two vampires. thats all i have right now but i'm getting more.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I saw it and Imediately felt a connection to her. only a few have i seen that i felt a connection. the others the connection came afterwords.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one
No but i did wish at one point i had gotten a diffrent one but i am happy

I chose her it took my first two paychecks of my first ever job. my mom wanted to get her for me but I told her i wanted to get the money myself

    17. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well, I started looking for a pretty doll that wouldn't be too expensive, since I wanted to be sure I'd like the hobby. So I looked at some tinies, and had just about settled on a Latidoll Pury when I discovered bobobie. So I thought Pixie was cute, and started saving for her, and then the Sprite mold came out... and I fell in love.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
The moment I saw her pictures, though at some point I decided 'she' would make a rather nice 'he.'

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
      Nope, no regrets!

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Kaesu, my BBB Sprite boy, and he will be with me forever.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?

Even if a doll is a gift I still get to choose it.

    18. There are no doll stores near me and no doll groups that I know about. I chose my doll from an internet picture. When she came I ordered a lot of clothing for her. But I never really warmed up to her. She is terribly kicky and sometimes I wish I didn't have her, but I never sell my dolls so she stays. She has a teddy bear and lots of other things as well as her own bed and cozy comforter. I'm learning to do some face-ups and I might add a little color to her face to see if that will improve our relationship. It might work. Regardless, I treat her with dignity and she always has a nice place in my home.

      Merci

    19. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I looked at the very limited range of dolls that I even knew existed, and picked the one I love. I still adore her, even knowing that there are other options available, it turned out I made a good decision with my Puki and that I find them to be really awesome and sweetly cute :D I wouldn't want any other doll as my first.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I was listening to a podcast about some other types of dolls (Non BJDs, I didn't even know about BJDs haha) and they mentioned Fairyland dolls and Puki Pukis so I decided I'd look them up and I loved them! They're so small and posable and cute! I had a bit of trouble deciding which face I wanted but eventually settled on Pong and she's so cute :)

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Looking back on it, it was quite impulsive. Since I really knew nothing about BJDs and didn't even know about DoA, and I only knew about the companies Fairyland and Latidoll. Luckily, she's beautiful, and even now that I actually know a bit more about BJDs, I still love her!

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
She is a Puki Puki Pong Pong. And I love her to bits and I can't ever imagine selling her! :aheartbea

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
It wasn't a present, but if it was, I would've been able to chose it.

    20. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well, I was looking at Iplehouse Tatiana and really loved her but the character I wanted the doll for is more mature so I kept looking. I had been told that Dollmore had great clothes, was browsing to find msd sized stuff and stumbled across the Zaoll dreaming luv. It was luv at first sight lol.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
It actually took me a little while because I was still unsure about the size, had been looking at MSDs, and I couldn't decide between the dreaming luv and the regular one. Eventually I decided to go with the one I first fell in love with.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
As of yet no, but while I've been waiting for her face to come back from the artist's I've been doing some browsing and have been amazed at the number of dolls I've found and liked. Just today I found Iplehouse Soo and :aeyepop::aheartbea I still don't think I would have chosen her over my Zaoll though.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Zaoll dreaming luv and yes, I still own her.
