Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

Jul 28, 2008

    1. My first doll was a AF Xun.
It hits me unexpected. I hadn't any connection with the BJD's my friends owned. But I liked the clothes. So well made, so much details. So much better than Barbie clothes.
And then, I visited my first BJD Convention, organised bij my friends.
There I saw her. And three nights I dreamed of her.
      So, the rest is history........

    2. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

To be honest I shopped around for a couple of years. I finally decided to just jump in...I went with resin soul because their prices are reasonable for a beginner doll for a newb like me. XD

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

When I saw Ai's face it was bonding at first site. I fell in love with the lovely, silent, serious look she had and even though I was a little skeptical about having my first doll be of the fantasy genre I just said "To hell with it!!! I like this doll and I'm getting her!" XD

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

She hasn't arrived yet! X3 I admit there were times that I've had anxiety or worried about my decision, but I've just chalked it up to her being my first.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?

I chose Ai myself. It was sudden and out of the blue, but I'd been looking into the hobby for awhile and just decided on day to do it! ^.^

    3. Hee. My first doll. <33

He's actually a Luts KDF Bory, and I DO still own him. <3 And plan to forever!!
At first I was REALLY torn between Bory and Hodoo, both from Luts... but something just told me to go with the Bory. He's just.. it FELT right to get him. And I don't think I've ever regreted that decision. XD He's my little boy and yeah... There was a moment or two right after I paid, I was thinking, "Did I make the right choice? Did I!?"

But in the end I did. <3

    4. My first doll I choose it in real during a dolls meeting. It helps me to find the right size and to choose among all the faces. I really advise to do so because you could be really disappointed about the size when you only look at the pics on internet.

    5. or also I forgot to tell, do not hesitate to ask the girls who owns the doll you want to have if she can show you pics of different parts.

    6. I've yet to order my first (lack of funds) but Pukipuki Pong is who I've been crushing on. I keep buying more Blythes instead though and now I've fallen head over heels with Pukifee Ante. So, she'll be my first. Then Pong. ;)

    7. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I wanted an asian-looking female MSD that was more realistic than anime-ish... which narrowed the field considerably. I finally thought I settled on SoulKid Apple, but I couldn't afford to buy a doll so I didn't get her.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Nearly a year later I have come back to buy a doll, and after going through dozens of doll sites she is still the one I come back to. I have to have her!

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I haven't ordered her yet, but I think I've waited this long so I know my choice is the right one.

    8. NOTE: I do not have any doll yet, but I know who I'll get!

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I've been looking around a lot, but none has caught me as DZ Aimi has ;)

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Well, I looked around for about a month or two, but got back to her again and again xD I've been set on her for over a year now :)

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Can't really answer on this one, but after more than a year she's still my fave mold :)

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Although my mom is fine with me with a doll, she'd never buy me one :/ I don't think anyone i know would >_<

    9. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

Well, that's a tricky question. I have been looking at BJDs for a few years now, and seriously since September. It was doing my head in. It wasn't until I checked out Angell Studio's link at the top of the pages here when I saw Kana in her new form. I really liked her face.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

Well, I was annoyed with my husband and so I thought I would get a doll (he doesn't like them) but one that I would really love. I sent pictures to my BF, and she got very excited. I then emailed Angell Studio and they told me about the offers they have at the moment. I loved the idea of a free face up and 50% off shipping. So I thought and thought about and my BF said I had done nothing but talk about Kana for three days, and after much deliberating and nearly backing out three times. I paid the first installment yesterday.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

No. But I do keep going back to Peak's Wood. I think that will be my next even if I said I wasn't going to do another one after Kana. But there is something about Peaks Wood Goldie.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

      Will see what happens when I get her!!! o * - * o

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?

A present for me from me? You betcha!!

    10. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I just accidantly saw him on a site and just fell for him :D:nosebleed:drool
For 2 days I couldn`t sleep and was hesitating if I really need a doll and on a 3rd day I couldn`t take it any more and made an order
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Sometimes I think if my decision was right ( especially when I see other dolls ), but than I look again on promo pictures and understand that I was absolutely right)))
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
It`s SoulDoll`s Key [zenith-boy] and I`m still waiting for it (actually I`m really nervous about it*_*) I hope he`ll be with me for looong-long time :)

    11. My choice of my first doll was half based on price and half based on the doll itself. I didn't want to just buy the most inexpensive doll I could find and not really love it cuz what's the point in that? So I trolled around Ebay looking for dolls that were no more than $200. I knew I wanted a mature sculpt and not a young one for my first doll so B&G was temporarily out (even though I like Sharons). I finally came across an AOD Chi and, even though his stock pics are kinda horrible, I knew he was going to be my first. I still have him. He's my only doll and I'm very attached to him. I can't imagine ever getting rid of him. I never regretted my choice for a second.

    12. Still in the process of saving up for, but I can still answer some of these questions as they are still fresh in mind ^ ^"

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I'm choosing the DOD Ducan to be my first doll. I started browsing some companies after stumbling across some BJD photos on deviantArt. At first, I hadn't even considered buying one yet. But I knew I wanted him as soon as I saw Ducan. He was the first sculpt that I had really fallen in love with.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Like I had mentioned, he was the first that had really caught my attention and made me want to look into the hobby some more. He's special that way.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?

It's going to be a present for myself! ^ ^" For my 20th birthday. I hope to be able to buy him entirely with money that I have earned myself. It will make it a lot more worthwhile :D

    13. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
As soon as I decided to finally look into buying one((and when I got the heads up that I was going to be able to buy one)), I spent all my free time looking at different dolls. I just looked at the body and face sculpt, since I already looked into what wig and eyes I wanted, and clothing is just clothing. I looked to find the doll that fit the characteristics I wanted.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I saw him. *shot* He fit all the characteristics that I wanted perfectly((to the point where I thought maybe the promo photos were too good to be true)). I looked back to the other dolls that I always thought were so cool and that originally made it so hard to choose when I didn't figure out exactly what I was aiming for...and when I kept going back to THE ONE, I knew that that was my doll.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Nope. I love him so much. When I got him, it turned out that the promo photos were not too good to be true after all. He is everything I wanted and more. *shot for being so mushy*

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
B&J Ymir ((OH NOES yeah, that company that changed resin without notice.))
Oh no, it was some other doll that I took to Sakura Matsuri yesterday....of course I still have him. ;)

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I chose him 100%~ My folks made me make sure that I DEFINITELY wanted this one.

    14. It was so difficult! I had just gotten into bjds so I literally had been exposed to a bazillion dolls. It was really difficult to narrow that down. I eventually decided that I liked the idea of getting a ringdoll teen because they were bigger, and could come MIN fullest for a fairly reasonable price. I really fell in love with petter, but ran a style was a close second. Then I caught wind of the whole ringdoll company mess and I thought id never get my doll. Luckily on the ringdoll waiting board I found a link to a pullip doll website who had some ringdoll teens in stock. I had pretty much given up on petter by then. I didn't want to wait months. I asked pullipstyle.com what they had and lo and behold they had my beloved ran! While he wasn't my original fave I quickly fell in love with the idea of owning him. Now he's home and I couldn't be happier :)

    15. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? I knew I wanted one similar to a succubus or an incubus. I knew Soom had made some and thought it was likely that someone else, somewhere, had also done so. So I found a list of most doll companies and searched through all of them, starting with Z. Resinsoul was listed with Bobobie. I looked at 90% of all dolls before I found the one who would be mine.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first? I just knew the second I saw him. I gave it time, not wanting to be impulsive, but the longer I waited, the more I wanted him. I even started dreaming about getting him.
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one? Not at all, which is surprising, because I regret spending money most of the time. In fact, I still dream about my doll. I guess that's what happens when you buy an incubus.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it? Resinsoul Mu was my first and I still own him. I seriously doubt that I will ever sell him.

    16. I remember when I was looking at dolls it was long before I decided to truly buy any was at first just humouring a friend of mine. I decided to look for my favorite OC Lesley, and I found many that could have been him. At first I first decided on DZ Chen-2 I think, because of the paint. I'm glad I hadn't gone with him, though a pretty sculpt, I've seen him in person and it would have been a mistake.

I actually ended up making my decision thanks in part to at the time strangers.. at work I seen a couple girls with BJD's and just had to approach them.. she pointed me to a local dealer.. and I focused on the dolls there to be one of my first. I wound up buying an Impldoll Bosco to be Lesley and spent later months rehashing my plans and thinking it may have been a mistake... and making plans for Impldoll Aaron to be Lesley if Bosco didn't work out as I'd have liked. I think I may still be the only one with a Bosco and I had seen pics of Aaron and find him to be beautiful... but.. It worked out well in the end and I couldn't be happier with him. (even though he faceplanted and dented a lip.. xP)

    17. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I just looked around, a lot! Back then, there weren't as many companies as there are now, so it was a lot easier, luckily, haha. But I kind of had an idea of what I wanted, and just looked around until I saw a face that really said 'it's me!'. I did know I wanted a SD, as I liked the idea of a big doll and msd's were still pretty childish back then(except for Unoa's, which didn't appeal to me at the time, and I believe they were just starting with the Minifee's..but anything smaller than SD just didn't grab my eye). Eventually, I stumbled upon Luts, saw Chiwoo, and then it was over <3 He was just perfect.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Just that..'omg I want it!' feeling, hahaha xD He was the size I wanted, the gender I wanted, had a pretty body, a face that could go sweet or bitchy..and you know, just that feeling that you instantly know it's no use to search any further, that's the one you're going to get.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

He is still my favorite, if I could keep only one doll, it would be Vasy, my Chiwoo. He only gets prettier with time <3 I tend to get bored with sculpts rather quickly, which is the hardest thing with me and dolls, after a year or so, I can say if I'm going to stay interested and inspired by it, but I've had Vasy for 5.5 years now, and he still inspires me.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

CP Chiwoo, and yes, I still own him

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
      I chose him ^_^

    18. I always knew my first 60cm sized doll would be a Dollfie Dream. I wasn't really picky as to which one, it was all a matter of timing. So when our 10th anniversary came around, it just so happened to be the same time as the lotto for Miu Amaha. I didn't know the "character" but loved her look and pet, so it was a no-brainer.

    19. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I didn´t make any specific decicions that I want to have THAT specific doll or specific company to order from. I kinda felt, that my doll would choose me, rather then me chooseng her. All I knew was that I wanted my first doll to be a girl and SD or MSD size.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I found a very pretty doll from the internet from buy/sell pages in my own country. Actually it was just the head, but I convinced the seller to sell me the whole dolly (and I think I gor it quite cheep as well when comparing to the original price). So when the size of the doll was right and the price I just bought her. Didn´t have any character or name or anything ready. And when she came, the minute I opened the box I knew what her name was and who she was :)

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No, I have not been unhappy at all. And I couldn´t imagine ever being unhappy with her.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first was Dollmores Lilis Liv and yes I still own her (only just got her about months ago).

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Yes I was able to choose it myself since I bought it with my own money :)

    20. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Primarily, money played a part. I didn't see myself spending upwards of $500 on a doll, so the most I spent was around $350. But I also didn't say 'Hey, this doll costs x; let's get it!'. I did look at options, and noticing most SDs were around $500, I decided to 'settle' for an MSD since they tended to be less expensive. But I found one that was adorable, and decided the DM Kid Flocke was the one I was going to aim for.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I don't think everyone 'knows' like it's a gut feeling. I really liked the company pics, though.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

No... it's just that it's kind of hard to write about a child character. That's the biggest issue.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
DM Kid Flocke; I still own her.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
      I did choose her.
