Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
The second I saw Volks' classroom 'C' head, I knew that was going to be my first - up until that point I had been considering an F16, but when I stumbled across a picture of the Sch. C head by accident it was instant love.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No way! I love the mould so freakin' much. My choice of character for the little guy has morphed slightly over time, but the actual doll itself? Not at all.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
I still own my Sch. C boy - I don't imagine I'll ever be able to get rid of him, actually...

Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I chose him - saved up and bought him myself.

 

My first doll was a Volks SD Mika. I ran across the dolls doing Internet research on modifying fashion dolls and fell in love, despite the initially shocking price tag. I searched around and found that the only Volks US distributor at the time had just gotten in a shipment and one of the people who had pre-ordered Mika however long before couldn't take her for some reason. So, I paid for her (I hadn't even seen a picture of her specifically) over the phone, had her shipped, and told my husband he had bought my Christmas present for me. When it came, I looked at the pic on the outside of the box and my hubby checked her out, but I waited another month+ until Christmas to open it and look at her/play with her. She is my most simple doll, but I love her very much.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?:
I went through every single doll available out there. Exhausting, but totally worth it.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?:
Hit me like a ton of bricks. THIS ONE.

Nope. And nope.
Still love and adore him the best.

Iple House Normal Skin Soo Ri '06
Yup. Still have him. He rules the roost.
And me.

A year prior, I'd spotted one that I thought I would love. Hubby told me in no uncertain terms: NO.
But then I waited a year, and found the Iple House Soo Ri, and fell so hard in love, that I didn't CARE what hubby thought. And told myself it would be my only one.
I bought him, and THEN told my husband about it.
My husband occasionally comes into the dolls' room, and counts heads theatrically, just to point out that I have FAR more than just one now.

My best friend silentWings called, saying she falls inlove with a doll boy. She show him too me on ebay. It was a B&G Ymir. I loved him too, but always wanted a girl if I ever buy a doll. Then she said to me: " By the way, he has a twin sister." I went to Laylas Rozen Garden shop to take a look on Hera, and fell in love ^^. From now on I was bjd infected ^^ and wanted her badly.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

Uhm, yeah like I told from this very first look on Hera ^^.

I am still waiting for here, should be among more thern a week til she will be shiped out T-T. But silentWings got her Ymir and for them looking so much the same I don't think Hera will be a disappointment ^^.

I was able ^^ I buy here complete on my own. But first I had to get a PayPal account ^^ lucky me thast I am already 25 ^^.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I feel in love with owner pictures (specifically Flonne's, I believe) of her Lati Yellow Lumi; so I knew I wanted a Lati Yellow. I went through every database I could find of Lati's to find the mold I wanted (ended up choosing Miel)

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I chose Lati Miel because every single picture I saw, I loved. The other ones... there were some cute Leas and Lumis, but it seemed like no one could take a bad picture of Miel!

When I first received her, I was unsure. I bought her without a faceup and did my own, but I didn't love it and we didn't bond for quite some time. It didn't even name her. -_- I recently took that faceup off and I love her more without it. XD I finally named her and I'm going to have her re-painted soon. Even though we had trouble, I don't regret it. I can't think of a doll I would rather have as my first.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Lati Yellow Miel, and yes!

 

My first doll was a CP SHINE, and I only bought him some months ago. It was quite hard to decide which mold to choose, but I liked the CP EL a lot. But as I thought of maybe choosing a CP EL, I found out that the mold was quite popular, so I choose CP SHINE who looks a bit like EL.
At first I was very nervous, because I thought that I would regret spending that big money on a doll, but when he arrived - and especially after giving him his first face up - I really bonded with him. So I certainly do not regret investing in him, though he is a big diva. ^^

 

I didn't think a lot...
I had liked dolls before REISNER appeared, but I didn't want to have one. Then I saw him, and I knew it was the time at the first sight.
So, also I love many dolls, he is my first and my most want.

After looking around both myself and with my 'guide' who happened to get me into the hobby, I found one that just called out to me.

As soon as I saw him I knew I had to have him.

I had originally decided to get a MNF El in the beginning because I just adored the sculpt but saving for him was hard work. I then spotted a Dollzone Megi on ebay and I fell in love with him. I figured that I'd probably be buying him eventually any way so I decided to get him first so I didn't have to save up so long for my first BJD.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

Probably when I realised I had already saved enough to get him straight away (I would have had to wait another 2 months to afford the MNF El)

I suppose I have regretted the choice in the past, especially when the DZ copying arguments surfaced the second time. I had some brutal emails and nasty messages left on my LJ (some threatened to smash or burn my doll if they ever saw it and some threatened to hurt me if they ever found me). At one point it got so bad I couldn't look at him because of all the grief he had bought me. It took me a long time to realise it wasn't his fault.

Dollzone Megi and yes I still own him (or does he own me )

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I bought a MSD for little so that I would get a taste for it. Now I have more than 20.

Yeah. I prefer CPs and Volks much more. The investment certainly pays off in this hobby. I hardly ever look up other brands but CP and Volks.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
It is an AoD Rao. I like her and I bring her to meet ups since she is the only MSD I have and she fits on my bagpack.

I chose her.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

I stalked the websites of Luts and DOD for months and months before buying one. I realized that I was more attracted to the pictures on DOD so I was able to narrow it down to between Lahoo or H Ducan. H Ducan was still available as a full set so I ended up deciding to get H Ducan.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first? When I final decided I should just go for it.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it? DOD H Ducan and yes he is still with me. I am pretty sure that he will be with me for a long time.

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
The second I first clapped eyes on the Shiwoo Vampire Art Delf at Luts I knew I wanted him. My elation at discovering him was swiftly follwed by dispair when I saw there was only 5 of him and he was sold out. I then found that the Shiwoo elf was available and he was essentially the same doll as the vampire art delf minus the clothes/faceup, so I snagged one.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
The second I saw him. He was the only doll that hit me in the gut when I looked at him. I knew I had to have him. Knowing he was limited and soon to be out of stock might have had a little to do with grabbing him as fast as I did. I was just ecstatic that there was still some of him in stock.

Shiwoo elf and yes, I still have him. I will never let him go. I will be a bag lady on the street with him still in my arms.

Yup. I bought him with my own money. My mother didn't learn of him until long after I received him.

when I found out he's the brightest one within all CP dolls...just couldn't take my eyes off THE MOON, couldn't stop thinking about THE MOON...THE MOON caught all my attension~

I was browsing around doll sites...not even specifically looking for a doll to buy. Just looking. Then I came upon the DOI boys and Luke v1 caught my eye. After going back to check up on him a few days in a row I took the gamble an ordered him.

The fact I kept checking back and named him. Once I've named a doll there is no going back.

Hmm not really. I'm very fond of him. Maybe he wasn't the best choice for a first doll but I'm very happy with him.

DoI Luke in ordering and DZ Ying in recieving and yes still have em both.

All my money. So it was my choice only.

 

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? I wanted a Petite Ai Hanael for an entire year before I had the courage to jump into the bjd world--I was so nervous to deal with stringing, resin, changing of eyes, etc.---a whole different world! But I was so enamored with Hanaels cute face, I finally decided to just buy one second hand so that I could ask the previous owner lots of questions, lol!
And when did you know that this doll should be your first? Pretty much as soon as I laid eyes on her!

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was browsing sites of dollmakers I knew because my friends is really into BJD, and I wanted to have more to talk about with her. Stumbled across Elfdoll Soah.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
The second I layed eyes on her I thought: I want her. This had never really happened before, I admired the craftmanship of other BJD, but never felt the need to own one.

I don't think so. There are other dolls I like, but I still keep going back to that one as my first.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
I plan on having Elfdoll Soah as my first. I don't own it yet as I'm still saving up for it, but with how much these dolls cost, I don't think I'll ever get rid of her. Plus, I didn't even need to have her to create a character for her (although a name still elludes me.)

I'm saving up for it myself. My family thinks it's kind of weird and extravagant. Although my mom is teaching me to sew so that I can hopefully make doll clothes to support my habbit. (My mom's a really good sewer.)

well,personally i tend to like the boy dolls(like alot of people)more than the girl dolls,but the one that im waiting for is my first one,and is a girl i would have to say i decided by her "personality"

I agonized for a long time since I knew that one doll would have to be it for a long, long time. I looked at all the bjd companies and their dolls over and over and studied the pictures and descriptions for what felt like ever.

I am not sure, but at some point I decided to go ahead and order it instead of driving myself nuts.

Soah was my first and I still have her.

It was my decision but I had to consider what I could afford to spend. Soah was one of the cheapest that I could find at the time.
