Choosing your first doll - How hard was it for you?

Jul 28, 2008

    1. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

I did alot of browsing around. BJDs was an entirely new concept for me and I knew that if I was going to actually bite the bullet and start saving up for one of these beauties, it wasn't going to be just anybody, it had to be someone special. So I was very meticulous about making sure I scoped out as many different companies as I could possibly find, since I didn't want to think I had found the one and ordered him, only to find a few days later a different one I loved even more but had found too late.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
The first time I saw him I literally had to just stop whatever else I was doing and stare dumbly at the screen. xD I was in absolute shock of not only his beauty, but of the fact that I literally could see one of my RP characters standing right there in front of me. I don't think I'd ever wanted something so badly in my life. I tried to test myself, to make sure it wasn't just a 'crush', but I knew he was it when I couldn't stop coming back to his webpage.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

I absolutely adore my boy to pieces and I don't regret choosing him at all. However, sometimes I do wish I had ordered him second rather than first. This is mostly because I know alot of people have a really strong bond with their first doll, moreso than their other dolls. And don't get me wrong, I adore my first boy, but I know that for me, truly, I connect the deepest with my second doll. Now, they come from the same company and all, so it would have been quite easy to have just ordered my first doll second ( actually, in the beginning, I had seriously contemplated getting them both together since I somehow had the funds for it at the time O.o Wonder how things would have differed had I actually done that >.< ), but alas, that's just not the way things turned out.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

My first doll was a Dream of Doll Homme Kirill and absolutely <3 I will never give up my little boy for anything. He's most definately stuck here for life ;3

    2. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
The first BJD I saw I fell in love with and that was my first. She still is my favorite BJD even after seeing so many.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
NO! I still love her more than the day I got her and she is still my favorite BJD mould to this day.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
The Super Dollfie Souseiseki was my first doll and I'll always have her.

Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I chose her - saved up and bought her myself. (with a little help)

    3. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
My first is actually not the first doll I wanted. I originally fell in love with DOD Lahoo, and actually did not like the DS Hound. It took 4 months, a character, and alot of owner pictures to make me fall in love with the Hound, and Lahoo moved on down the list.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When I went looking for something and by chance a Luts picture of the SA Hound in White skin popped up and I fell, I ended up deciding that the regular Hound instead but still hope for an SA Hound in the future.

Did you get unhappy with your choice?
Nope, I still love him and only regret not being able to buy him sooner. It took me around 12-18 months to save for my first resin doll, and a month for the second and third.
Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Nope, I have only regretted one doll purchase, and that was a body purchased a year ago, and now I am not satisfied with it anymore. So the head will be moving bodies and the body will get a new head at a later date. The head is my 3rd "doll" purchased.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Skah Elsu is my first doll, he is a BW Dollshe Hound. I still have him. He has yellowed ALOT and I think he is more beautiful now then he was when I first purchased him. He sure photographs easier too... doesn't blend in with his hair anymore....

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
He was entirely my choice and I have only received 2 present doll things 1 being my Recall's body, I am planning a body change with him, and a replacement head for my Minimee order, so I have3 Matsumoto Jun heads instead of my original 2.

    4. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I found out about BJD's on somebody's livejournal. And she had posted something about a doll that's she might buy but there were some down sides to it. I looked at the site and I fell in love with him instantly :aheartbea

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I constantly thought about him and checked the site and such. So yeah purchase was imminent ;)

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
      Absolutely not!
It was only 'till later that I found out about the down sides though. When I got my 2nd doll. But still very very happy with my 1st doll.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
It's an OD Il and yes I do still have him. And chances are little that we will ever part.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
It was my own choice and I payed for him myself.

    5. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
My first is not the first doll I wanted. I saw this mold on doll party and ordered him in next week. He is so cute ^__^

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
At first second, hen saw his in reality.
But funny situation - I didn't knew his mold - only site (dollmore) where he was bought. But in evening I saw all dolls in site and choose Isaac mold by myself from all another molds. It was he ^__^ Twise choosing of one mold.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I am totally happy. But I'll order another one - father to my little boy ^__^ This big doll was in my plans before i have buy my boy.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Dollmore Kid Issac. Yes, he is living with me=)))

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
It was not a present - I payed for him myself.

    6. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I didn't specifically decide that he should be my first. My heart ached for him, then Volks opened up sales (he was limited), and it was a matter of do or die. He was the first bjd I saw that I thought was truly beautiful, and I wasn't going to miss the opportunity to have him.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When Volks opened the sales. It didn't hurt that I couldn't stop thinking about him. If he had been available at a later date, he would not have been my first. It was timing based on the company's Dollpa schedule.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered a different one?
No! I was thrilled just to have him, and the excitement lasted as I searched for new hair, clothes, shoes, eyes, etc.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Volks Heath - and he is still the Lord of the Manor. :)

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
James was a birthday present to myself!

    7. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I don't know, I just looked and she stood out most to me.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
As soon as I saw her I know I wanted her.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
      I don't know yet, I haven't gotten her yet ^^

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
      I haven't gotten her yet.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I choose on my own ^^

    8. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
It was love at first sight. I did hunt around after I saw him but I just kept going back to the site, I adored his realism. The other option was a CP Lu-Wen..but I chose my original doll in the end :aheartbea

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I loved his sculpt, thought about him a lot and checked back at the site everyday. I guess you just know when that doll should be your first.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I eventually bought my second doll, CP Lu-Wen and he took centre stage as soon as he arrived. It felt like the bond with my first doll was fading and that he wouldn't fit in as I bought more dolls so I very nearly sold him, backing out at the last minute when I realised he meant too much to me.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first was an Iplehouse SooRi and he's still he most handsome devil in the house. After nearly selling him, the bond came flooding back and now he's my special first boy again :)

    9. Ima gunna split this half and half if everyone dosent mind, the only doll I currently own is an off-topic doll...the first answer is mah off-topic love, second is the one I'm saving for ^^

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I just sorta found her in the dealers room.../he stood out to me, and he was cheap ^^
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
When she was staring at me.../when he was staring at me like a poor little homeless boy
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
I...er...a tad bit because she's off-topic, but I still love her to death and will love Obitsus the most probably/havent gotten him yet...
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
She was, and of course I still own her ^^ She's standing on my desk/as for him...er...i'll own him untill I die?

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
chosen/chosen *though trying to get some money as a grad gift*

    10. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I have had a special character in mind. Most of the characters I plan to get are OC's. I wanted Shima to be the first because she is the most important character for me. I'm very picky if it comes to girl dolls and couldn't decide which one is near enough to her. After a while I found out about Dollfie Dreams and since Shima is an OC and has been drawn in this animeish style by me, a Dollfie Dream was just perfect. Also, I'm a bit clumsy and always wanted an SD sized doll. I felt bad about getting a resin doll, too afraid to drop it :sweat Lucky me that Dollfie Dreams are vinyl dolls xD She really helped me to learn how to handle large dolls ^^'

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Some time after I moved to Tokyo. I visited the Volks stores and got really found of the Dollfie Dreams. Everytime I came there I wanted her even more xD

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No. I have had a time of 2 weeks right after I purchased her when she was just sitting around because I didn't really have had a good idea about what to do with her :sweat One day I decided to finally take her and see what is possible xD So, no, I was a bit confused because she was my first doll but I was never unhappy with her and will never be.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Dollfie Dream II/ HDD01. Of course I still own her :) I have purchased 2 other dolls since this time but I think, Shima will stay my favorite 'cause I bound with her a lot :)

    11. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I was browsing for "the right doll" all over the place, looking around and not finding her/him. Then I saw an Angel Fantasy eBay auction where you could choose one of five dolls, and I liked two of them - a girl and a boy. The boy really stood out to me though and I decided to buy him.
(Oddly, my mum made me look at all the other dolls in the auction, as she was the one paying online even though I was paying her back. She seemed to think I liked the deal, not the doll - strange, that)
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Within two hours. The auction had only a few hours to go and was on "Buy it Now". I saw him when I got back from school, around 5.30, and bought him that evening. I am a person who never makes a snap decision, so I must have been pretty sure!
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
No, although I don't trust myself to make the right decision fast and was a bit worried about that aspect of it as I never behave like this, how would I know if I'd made the right choice? But now I am utterly certain that I did and would not sell him. Any final traces of uncertainty dissapeared when I had to leave him behind for a walking holiday, my first time away from him since I bought him and he arrived in May, and when I got back I was struck by how wonderful and beautiful I find him.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Angel Fantasy (previously Doll Dream) 1/4 Silicon/Kui/Wa (has different names)
Yep, and he's still my only doll, although depending how much cash I have remaining after an upcoming convention he may end up with some family fair soon!

    12. Interesting questions! ^^

How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
I looked through many doll companies' pages and didn't find one that I really wanted to have except one. That one was going to be my first doll.
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I knew at the time I had the money to buy her. There still was no other doll I wanted more.
Did you get unhappy with your choice?
      No. She's just *wheeeee*:D
Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
      Definitly not ^^
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first was Angell Studio KANA and yes, she's still with me ^^
extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
I was able to choose her and everything I wanted to come her with, but it was also half a present (I would have never been able to get her all by myself).

      Laoky (with her second soon~~)

    13. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Well, I really hate to say it, but price was a major consideration. I wanted something beautiful, to be sure, but also something that would be under $200 including shipping. So for a while I was thinking about a Lati white, but was worried that they might be too small. Then I discovered Bobobie; and decided that Pixy was cute. Her eyes were a little large for my taste, but I started saving and designing a character around her. Then, pretty much right before I ordered her, Sprite was released and whoa, that was dolly perfection, and wtf, she was even a bit more affordable?! So I decided right then that I just had to get Sprite, and somewhere in there decided Sprite was to be a boy.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
Oh, it was totally love at first sight, with that initial white skin, white hair, green eyed Sprite picture.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Nope, nearly a year later, I'm still totally happy with my boy. I'm really glad I didn't get a big doll first; 1/4 is about as big as I want to go.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Kaesu, Bobobie Sprite boy in white skin; he's not that same bright white color anymore, but yeah, I've still got him, and can't imagine ever wanting to let him go.

extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?
Nope, no doll prezzie for me; I had to work and save up.

    14. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?

I have to admit that I went about it in a very naive way. I'd wanted a BJD for so long, and I thought that *all* of them looked so great... So I thought it wouldn't really matter which one I got, because I would surely be happy with him/her.

Then I saw a doll on Ebay for a very reasonable price, from a seller within my own country... And the doll was a limited to boot, with an extremely lovely faceup (she was a Glory Angel Ami)! How could I not love her once I got her, right? The thought that I might not never crossed my mind.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?

Well... When I saw her on Ebay and realized I could afford her, I guess.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?

I did, eventually. At first I was very happy with her, but over the months and then years, as I learned more about BJDs, bought other dolls, browsed DoA and other forums, I became ever more discontent with her.

Finally, I realized that she simply was too stylized to my liking, and that I wouldn't ever be truly happy with her, no matter how often I changed her faceup, hair and clothes.

I don't regret buying her, though. I'm somebody who only learns by trial and error what they like and what they don't.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?

She was a Angelregion Glory Angel Ami, and I sold her in early 2007 -- to fund a doll that I also don't own anymore, strangely enough.

Extra question: Were you even able to choose it? Was it a present?

I was able to choose, I just didn't choose very wisely. And she ended up being a present, in the end. I wasn't doing so well around that time, and my family paid for her as my christmas present, to cheer me up.

    15. I don't own a doll yet and I haven't ordered him yet.. But I know which one I want. I noticed I was very picky on what doll I wanted when I started pondering if I should get one or not. luckily it was a quick 'scratch that and move on' process to find the one doll that had requirements I wanted. I don't know exactly how my doll will look like (since ever doll's face up is done by hand and therefore makes each doll different anyways) but I know for a fact he'll be gorgeous and that I made the correct choice in getting him.

    16. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
It was love at first sight ^^° After I had loooked at all the sweet doll clothes, I saw him AND was doomed. (B&G Ymir)
And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
After much more research and thinking about the price (To much or to cheap). But I just had to have him. ^^
Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Just a sec. But now he has the wig and the eyes I wanted for him and now I have fallen for him all over again ^^ No, I´am very happy that I´ve got him.
Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
My first is still my only one.:aheartbea

    17. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first? My obsession started a couple of years ago with these BJD's, I have collected some other unmentionable dolls for a while, though.

And when did you know that this doll should be your first? My first doll is actually on its way...I saw a picture of ShuShu and fell in love with her. I was a little leary about the ordering process, though. Recently, I saw that Denver Doll was carrying them and I was so excited, I could not contain myself.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one? NO!!! I am so excited, and I see how much other people appreciate her on this site, it makes me even happier with my decision...plus it gives me something to look forward to!

Which doll was your first and do you still own it? Still waiting...and I will have her until I am long gone and my kids sell her on ebay!

    18. I don't think it was hard...actually it was an accident.
I was planning to have SI (DOC) as my first doll, and one of my friends just got her U at that time.
      So…I suddenly changed my mind.
And I still don’t have SI; I don’t know why. He was the first doll which touches me, and I still love him so much.
But I just can’t order him, even 3 years already past.

    19. How did YOU decide which doll should be your first?
Lots of browsing online. I was on the DDE site and considered a lot of dolls, but I still kept coming back to one. I decided to wait until I went there, assuming I'd want a less expensive tiny instead. [I collect other dolls, none of which are as big as my MSD.]

And when did you know that this doll should be your first?
I kept looking at her online and wishing I could buy her, but I always went back to thinking 'She's too big' [I had planned on buying a tiny first] or 'She's to pricey for me'. When I saw her in the store, she was the only one I kept coming back to look at.

Did you get unhappy with your choice? Do you wish / did you wish that you've ordered another one?
Not at all! I hope to buy her additional face sometime though.

Which doll was your first and do you still own it?
Elfdoll Dami. Yes, I actually just got her two weeks ago, while visiting Denver. If you can ever go to DDE, I'd definitely recommend it.

    20. I love BJD because of my girl - dot shall.
One day, when I was looking around on the internet,
accidentally click to the DOD website. Then, I saw Shall!

I knew BJD before, but I don't really want to get one.
      Because they are so expensive!
I thought collecting BJD is rich people's hobby.

However, after I saw Shall, I totally fell in love with her.
I kept looking for her pictures, placed her pic as wallpaper.
Luckily, after 3 years later, I had her ^^
