1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Clothing Shopping: Individual pieces VS Fullsets

Dec 17, 2021

    1. Some of each, here. I get full sets if I like them well enough, and individual useful or interesting pieces as I come across them.

I mix and match using them all, though, so even full set bits might not end up being worn with the rest of their set.

    2. Both! For special occasions like birthdays, I usually pick out a nice fullset, but the rest of the time, I LOVE collecting bits and pieces of doll clothing. I'm always hunting for vintage, handmade, and secondhand single pieces on eBay etc., but my favorite place to look is this local creative reuse arts center (it's like a thrift store for art supplies!) that has a huge bin of misc. doll clothes where I've gotten lucky a few times. I mix and match my singles, but rarely mix them with fullset pieces unless they're just perfect.

    3. Individual pieces. All of my dolls' characters are modern day regular people, so it wouldn't really make much sense to only buy fullsets, since those tend to be either formal or fantasy.

    4. I prefer fullset.

    5. My twin Irrealdoll Nurs are brother and sister and while they have a basic similar style they do have their own items and same items but in different colors. Due to fact they are tall and slender MSD dolls they can never have full sets without a seamstress or tailor involved. I have been lucky to find them many pieces that work well together and can make especially for the girl a wide variety of looks. Parker is my little fashionista and her brother is just happy he's not forced to wear anything except a shirt and jeans, but never a suit.

    6. I prefer to buy full sets that are custom made for my dolls, in styles that I want for them, but the size I collect isn't super common so I mostly get pieces here and there and try to make an outfit I am happy with.
Unfortunately, most of my dolls are stuck with Barbie outfits or pieces to mix with other things. I wish more people made things for this size of dolls. It is nice that they fit in Barbie stuff really well, so at least I have LOTS of options, but they aren't as nicely made as they were even 10 years ago :/

    7. I prefer individual items. I love making my own outfits and fun to find items.
The only time I like fullset is if I’m looking for a certain look like from a character from a book/show/movie but that doesn’t really happen all that much

    8. When I started out, I preferred fullsets, for my two first dolls. The first because it was perfect as it was and the second because it was a suit, so I figured it would be not too hard to mix and match. I also bought a lot of individual items, like a bunch of shirts, pants, etc..

I kinda regret buying some of these individual items once I learned to sew/knit/crochet. Even though I am hardly an expert, I can make basic stuff, add some embroidery on it, and it would look not necessarily perfect, but it would feel pretty special enough. And it's fun to see my progression, even though it sometimes feel frustrating!

I guess the only things I would think worth it to buy are well-made jeans or things with exceptional craftsmanship, but they often are out of my budget. XD

    9. I do a bit of both. I have been ordering clothes for my dolls lately and I've been getting a lot of individual pieces: tops, hoodies, jeans, etc. I do love to buy full outfits when I see ones that I like.

    10. I have expensive tastes, so that often bleeds into my dolls xD I want them to have nice, pretty outfits, so fullsets are usually what I buy. Only later on do I start to mix and match clothing items, and that depends on the mood/aesthetic of each doll's "dress-up day". It gets expensive, yes, but there's something pleasing about having a complete set of clothes ready to dress my dollies in. Helps make their character feel, well...complete to me, haha.

    11. My dolls mostly dress like me - jeans and tee shirts, Street wear I guess you'd call it. I really enjoy hunting for each individual piece of clothing to put together an outfit for a doll. Its the challenge of the hunt and also like solving a puzzle. I feel very accomplished when I finally get a doll's look complete.

    12. I prefer fullsets as the clothes (normally) matches perfectly. I recently got a doll where the boots and pants were missing and it’s a pain to find clothes that match the other pieces :D

    13. Both.

If its a company fullset, I want it in its entirety.

However, i will see an artist's outfit or jewelry, and I want to do a custom set around that one piece.
