1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Collecting BJD's - Inspiration from dolls for other hobbies?

Feb 21, 2022

    1. I do digital art and love creating original characters, so my dolls often represent them in one way or another.
I started to craft and sew more often when I got into the hobby, a newly found interest in photography is one of the major additions as well :3nodding: (Even one of my early cosplays was inspired by a BJD kind of look..)
The possibilities are truly endless… :XD:

    2. For me, it was actually the other way around. I collected dolls about 15-20 yrs ago…early Tonners and Fashion Royalty, but packed my dolls away to focus on raising my kids. I have always been into dollhouses and miniatures, abd sculpting miniatures for my daughter’s American Girl dolls and Barbie dolls. Eventually I opened an Etsy shop for my miniatures. Never planned to go back to doll collecting, but I had many requests from customers to make miniatures for Minifee dolls. Well, this opened up a very big can of worms! I got my first Minifee ion the secondary market, intending to use her as a model only…..but she had me hooked. Now I am all about BJD’s, especially Fairyland, and have obtained several other Fairyland dolls, some new, some secondhand.

    3. Crafting in general-- I mostly do small props/accessories rather than sewing, though I take on simple sewing projects as well. And I've made some beginning wigmaking efforts.

Faceups is the main doll-related art I've taken on, because I also paint D&D miniatures, custom-paint busts/action figures and such. It's different, but relies on a lot of the same skills and uses the same supplies.

    4. Similarly to @PoeticSoul , my BJDs became a focus for my existing hobbies, and has helped me improve at them. I've sewed doll clothes since I was pretty young, but my tailoring skills have improved immensely sewing for BJDs. I'm not comfortably drafting patterns, but I'm pretty confident at modifying them to fit individual dolls. My interest in fashion style is mostly an inspiration for doll clothes!
