Collection figures , BJD or both?

Dec 27, 2014

    1. I collect both. The anime figure collection actually pushed the doll collection out of the display cabinet a while back. It's incredibly difficult to balance both, but I can't bring myself to give up either.

    2. While I do love the look of anime figures, I'm not invested enough in most of the characters to really want to spend the money on most of them, so I wouldn't call myself a "figure collector." I do have a good set of figures from my favorite series, a handful from another one, and one rather rare figure from a rather unpopular series. I picked up a couple of extras along the way that I need to sell off, now, but I was never truly invested in collecting any anime figures; BJDs are my main focus, and where I've definitely enjoyed myself more.

    3. I have a feeling I'll end up the same way with both, just maybe 3 or so of each. I already own 2 anime figures that I adore, but I think that's enough for me for the moment. I have to really love the character and the sculpt, and that doesn't happen very often in the anime figure world for me. So similarly I figure I might end up with 2 BJDs, a boy and a girl, and they'll represent every character I'd ever want through their no doubt going-to-be impressive wardrobe that will accommodate this!

    4. I always buy a figure or two when I'm in japan. (anime figures obviously) even so my collection only take up one shelf.

    5. I enjoy collecting both, I think the figurines came first? My first figurine was in Highschool while my first BJD came a couple years later. However, the figurines didn't really become a serious thing until I started buying BJDs... But that was more because buying my first BJD gave me the confidence to spend my money the way I wanted instead of always worrying over it or worrying about my family being disappointed in me for not 'spending my money on something useful/important'. I've since shown my family how creative and artistic and enjoyable the BJD hobby is for me, but they don't really know about the figurines since they don't travel and no one visits my room XD

BJDs I will buy year round with whatever savings or extra spending money I have on hand(usually through Layaway), but I also have a separate drawer I toss my change into year round so that when Anime Detour or a Comic Con comes around I have money to pull out for figurines, too.

And then there are the BJDs I have turned into Character dolls that are usually positioned/sitting near their mini-hoards of figurines and merchandise. I mostly collect One Piece figurines, and what I can find of Pandora Hearts merchandise (the character dolls that sit near these collections are Zoro and Gilbert, although since there is a very sad amount of Pandora Hearts merchandise I'm debating putting together Alice and Oz dolls to join poor lonely Gilbert). I also have a weakness for 1990's Superboy(Kon-El, not younger Kal-El) so I have a doll that can dress up in his outfit from time to time and a few(not enough) figurines of him, since he is also incredibly hard to find(and I still have not found the figurine I reeeaaally want of him)
Other than One Piece, the things I'm into don't tend to be very popular for some reason...

    6. I suppose I now collect both! I bought my first anime figure in the summer, and just recently bought my first BJD, but I'm kinda more willing to spend more on BJDs cause of the options for customization and creativity~ However, sometimes the figures that come out are just too cute and I have to get them if they're of my favourite characters ^^ My fave anime figures are the figmas tho aka the ones with movable joints, so moreso similar to BJDs I suppose (though not nearly the same~)

I really want a figma for one character, but it doesn't look like there will ever be a figma for him, so I'm actually kinda debating buying a figma for a different character and modding it into the one I want tho hahah~

    7. I collect various figures and eventually I will have a BJD. The Disney Limited Edition 17" are my newest collection item, though I have Sailor Moon figures from when I was younger too.

    8. I've been collecting figures more now than BJD's. Mostly because I can afford them over a doll. I don't really have collector figures, just simple ones from conventions. But figures are still figures.
But my interest is swaying back into dolls so hopefully I'll get a new doll before another figure.

    9. I have a BJD who collects little character figures LOL So I've got a few tiny ones!

    10. Both!! I would say I'm definitely more into figures than BJDs at the moment (I own so, so many figures and only 2 dolls). Can't pass up on those Jojos ;)

    11. I got into both hobbies pretty late and it was right after the other, so I haven't amassed a lot of both. I only buy one kind of figure and that's figma by Good Smile Company. I love their posability, but I might fall in love with bjds more because of how customizable and posable they are. <3 my first bjd is on his way so I guess let's wait and see?

    12. im still more into figures but i also wait for my first BJD to be made :D

    13. I've never really collected anime figures, save for a small collection of figures that a friend who was teaching abroad sent me. I suppose they just never held any appeal for me, as I've always preferred dolls that I can dress and pose.

    14. I collect anything and everything pop figures, mini figures ,munnys and friends and of course bjds :)

    15. Best of both worlds, baby! Hannah Montanah style!!! :XD:

    16. Yep for me I like collecting both, I currently have 7 dolls though and the main issue for me is space.

Hmm for me though, I kind of think of my bjds in the same way as figurines, I don't play with them, make clothes for them, have tea parties with them LOL

From as early as I can remember I liked Anime--> Collecting figures 6+----> Anime(outside of the kids targeted anime) 15+-----> BJD 22+

I never had any dolls prior and did not have much interest in them, I am boy.

    17. I mainly collect Goodsmile company and Square Enix figures. I wanted a bjd before I begun collecting figurines but I bought figures first due to the cost of bjds and being nervous to take the plunge for several years. Now I'm doing both. I only collect the figures I really want so nothing needs to change to accommodate both.
