1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Company faceups?

Nov 12, 2023

    1. It depends. If the company faceup is good, I prefer to get it since it’s less of a hassle than commissioning one. However, a lot of the companies photoshop and edit their photos, and the actual faceup isn’t as good. I can do my own face up, so I don’t buy faceups I think I can do.

    2. Only 3 of my dolls have their company faceups still, one of my Dollzone Hids (I'm keeping him as his complete fullset company default since that was the first BJD I fell in love with and my first BJD in general), my Souldoll Miryu (it's beautiful and suits her very well), and my Dream Valley Rin jellyfish (she was an impulse buy and I didn't have any other idea for her, so I just stuck with the default). Everyone else will be getting a custom faceup. Some may be inspired by their company default with a little tweaking to suit their intended character more. I think only 1 doll I regret not getting their default company faceup, my Withdoll Allan elf assassin, because it was so pretty, but I'll just commission to have a similar style done since his hair color doesn't match the defaults anymore anyway.

    3. I’ve been collecting since 2006 and have amassed a small army after all these years, and although I’ve done my own faceups on the vast majority of my crew, I’ve also gotten a few company faceups along the way just to add a bit of diversity to the collection. It all depends on character for me, and if I like a company faceup and it works for that specific character, then it’s a big time saver since they’re ready to go right out of the box.;)

    4. Unfortunately, I can't do my own faceups so I tend to stick with company faceups. If I were able to do them myself, I'd definitely do that. I don't mind company faceups, most of the ones that I have are very pretty, but there have been some that I didn't like at all. Of course I could also send my dolls to an artist but doing that for every single doll that I buy takes more time/money that I'm willing to spend. So company faceups are a pretty good solution for the time being.

    5. These days I paint most of my dolls myself, but I have a couple of the Ringdoll MXTX dolls that kept their faceups because their fullsets came with them and it felt kind of pointless to repaint them exactly the same way in my own style. There are some companies that do really amazing work (Peakswoods comes to mind), but I won’t pay for a faceup when I can do it myself.

    6. It depends, but I feel like a faceup made by you or a faceup artist in the community give the doll a more unique flair that helps with the bonding, for me personally. Most factory faceups are soooo bland. I also have specific characters I want to shell so the company faceup won't work

    7. [IMG] I paint on the company faceups sometimes to make them more my style.
I have a skincolored pan pastel, to take away detaljs I do not like.
But I always prefer to buy dolls without a faceup.
I like to do my own. As the Panya head. I do natural faceups.
I'm not good at eyebrows yet, but I do not hate this.

    8. I lack artistic talent, so I can't paint my own unfortunately! I buy all of my dolls with face-ups already, so I have to make sure a company does their face-ups well before I order them. Unfortunately there aren't many face-up artists in my country, otherwise there are plenty of dolls I would love that are only available as blanks!

    9. I think its no problem sending them loong way for a good faceup.

    10. If I don’t have the time to do a face up I would settle for company face up so I could play with them sooner. I always have the choice to wipe it when I’m ready. I’d rather use the doll than have it sit for even longer

    11. I am BAD at any kind of thing implied with art but sometimes I prefer company face ups because y can see the whole character I'm looking for. However I also like to order face up to some artists as Rakeru Sensei since I can create my character exactly as I want.
