1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Company vs. Dealer

May 4, 2014

    1. I prefer to order directly from the company. Shops like DDE are in the USA, and if I buy from them I get slapped with huge Customs taxes, whereas dolls coming directly from Asia always arrive Duty-Free. So, ordering direct is much more economical.

    2. I usually order from American dealers (mostly Denver Doll) just so I don't have to pay so much for shipping.

    3. I prefer to order from the company. That way you can add other things to your purchase and be able to enjoy/participate in the events.
Okay, I have to deal with custom fees myself. But ordering a doll through a dealer around here isn't much cheaper.

    4. I always check the dealers first just to see what's in stock. That way I can get my items faster. Also, communication is easier with the dealers than with the companies.

    5. As I live in France, I prefer buying from a Dealer if the prices are close, because of customs. In France (and in Europe in general I believe) the customs fees are really expensive if you get taxed, and dealers avoid you taxes !

    6. The only time I bought a doll was through a dealer, simply because they offered a layaway plan. For high end expensive dolls [$500+] I'll do a dealer if I can because layaways. :P
But my next doll purchase is through a company, so hopefully it's a pleasant transaction.

    7. Most companies will bend for layaway if asked and Ive heard of dealers not shipping event heads/gifts and selling them later.

      kinda scary to me.

    8. I used to order doll from dealers but now I order only directly from company because it's faster (have been twice because of error between dealer and company's communication, so that my order stuck for more than 7 months) and sometime less expensive. :)

    9. Most often than not, I order from Dealers when they have the dolls I want available.
There may be no import/customs duties to speak of in the USA, but shipping can get ridiculously expensive if you buy directly from a company in Asia.
Oftentimes, these companies will be tacking an extra $80 or more for EMS while shipping expenses from dealers are often below $30. Since I love dolls on the 1/7 scale, international shipping can be a killer.

I only buy directly from a company if I think their shipping prices are low enough...or the dolls are small enough.
