1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Compromise on Skin colour?

Aug 15, 2023

    1. I did compromise on color choice once, because I wanted to share bodies with the doll I wanted to purchase and my favorite doll at that time (2006-2007). I thought it would work somehow, despite size, proportions, stylization, etc. not being even in the same realm for the two dolls in question. In the end none of those things were in my favor, and neither was the resin color. I regretted it for a long time, because the newer doll's character is a vampire, and he would have greatly benefited (in my eyes!) from being paper-white-resin, instead of "beige" or average looking healthy flesh color. Now, that it's been sixteen years or so, I don't feel as terrible about it because I feel beige resin will probably age better than white. I never did anything like that again, and if I was actively shopping for resin, I would probably never do it now either. I was just obsessed with the newer doll's hands, and I wanted my favorite doll at that time to have those (I love beautiful/and/or/realistic looking doll hands). For a while after, and even now that said doll with the pretty hands has been my favorite, and that's why I regretted not getting him in the color I wanted for him back then. Which was a huge pain in the back for a long time after, then it just became a predicament and now I kind of don't really care anymore but it was a decision I regretted for a very long time.

    2. And as a perfect example of this: I’ve just ordered Dollzone’s re-released (after over a decade) plant doll, Moment, in green skin. Sure, it added a whopping chunk$ to his already high price, but c’mon now! A rare plant doll in green skin? Too perfect! So I simply put him on a 10 month layaway with my favorite doll dealer, making it only work out to an additional $9 per month which is easily do-able. For me, this hobby is all about making my dreams come true, and I won’t miss $9 a month…but I would certainly always miss having this rare doll not being in green skin!;)

    3. There is one doll I wished I had gotten in a darker skin tone. My dolls are tied with a comic I want to make and the doll is white skin and the character is black with Afro puffs. I might dye her at some point but it’s scary.

    4. Nope, no compromise.
I'll wait as long as I have to and pay whatever price I have to in order to get a doll I want in the right skin tone.
I'd rather not have it at all if it's going to be the wrong color, if I'm going to spend money, time and energy on a doll then the base doll needs to be as close to exactly what I want as possible.

    5. Having just finished dyeing my limited edition doll as my first-ever resin doll dye, it is scary but I promise dyeing isn't so bad once you do it! Rit's color formulas for their DyeMore dye is pretty spot-on, I found, even if my doll seemed to darken into the actual shade after drying, unlike all the guides that say it'll lighten. They even have a skin tones section! And if your doll is white skin, that'll probably help since you don't have to worry about accounting for a preexisting resin color as much.

    6. It might be a while before I try it but this doll is white skinned and if it goes well I might do it to a few others though some I have face ups I like and I don’t wanna ruin them (they aren’t that amazing but they are the best I have done :P)

    7. I thought I could compromise recently by ordering NS... and ran back to Alice 2 days later asking if it's not too late to pay extra and get tan :sweat (it wasn't, getting tan wohoo!) It's easier to compromise when buying second hand, but if you have to wait for months, it'll slowly build itself into a regret I think.

    8. Mismantis dolls

I found this link on the work shop section and this tutorial has hit my stupid brain in all the right places. I dyed just a head though, and i messed it up a bit cause the string I was using made a lot of the dye gather around the eye sockets between the nose but I got a pretty intense red other wise and could even it out with a face up. A thin wire probably would've avoided that any way. Most tutorials are covering dying light colored dolls to light/pastel from what I see so seeing deep color from this artist gives me confidence. I'm still mastering it so it's not completely idiot proof but if I can do it, 99% of the population will be just fine.

I have enough confidence in this tutorial that I'm gonna use it when my loongsoul body comes in cause my rava viera is darker then usually anything sold. I did buy a back up when that doll zone cat 68 cm was rereleased though XD but it's a little thinner then the loongsoul 68cm. At least how it looks in pictures on the internet :p

I wish I could say never compromise, but sometimes you gotta to get the exact thing you want cause the stars don't always align

    9. I really love fairyland event heads and they don't come in tan. So if I want to switch heads around, I need to get the skin tone to match. Kind of annoying, but I deal.
