1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. Converting and introducing people to dolls

Dec 11, 2004

    1. I remember the day i so innocently asked to see the doll a friend had as his wallpaper...
and the rest is history. Now i'm desperately waiting for my first BJD, a Latidoll's M.
I can't believe i got hooked into such an expensive obession!!!:...(
I can just hear my mother, "you spent how much on Wha????" yeah right, as if i'd ever tell her :sweat

      --------------
:love still waiting for M :love

    2. I hooked my mom. XD All i had to do was flash a few pictures of Lati M to her, and she was in love. <3 We're waiting for him as I type. My best friend just adores my girlie, and would dearly love to get a lil punker type bjd, but she'd have to save for it, and she's not to good with saving, especially since she's a clothes horse.

    3. Heh heh I too am ebil. My friend is bringing her laptop tommorow because she NEEDS a Narae. Fortunately she can afford it no problem.

    4. Recently, I was talking to a male friend of mine on AIM, and the conversation suddenly turned to Bridget, a character from the Guilty Gear series, and then to BJDs. XD
Omni: All I need now is an anotomically correct Bridget doll. >D
Xia: *links to VolksUSA* Super Dollfies are your best bet. XD
      Omni: O___O
Xia: But actually, I'd go for a Bluefairy Emilie boy for Bridget. *links to bluefairy*
      Omni: *bookmarks links* >w>

    5. I hooked my friend/former student to BJD's.

I was teaching serigraphy at my old school and she was a student of mine for a couple of years and we sometimes talk in MSN. She saw my first doll BF jerome when he came while I was teaching and we had some discussions about dolls and stuff. I linked her atat Luts Dollshe Hound when we were chatting and it was instant love. XD She was like OMG I gotta have that! ^-^

Now she is a proud owner of SA hound from Luts, and is planning to get some other doll to keep him company. <3

      Yay!

    6. Have any of you gotten someone who was originally indifferent towards or someone who flat-out disliked BJDs into accepting them?

I remember when Rem first arrived in the mail (bald and naked), most of my family and relatives just could not believe how expensive he was. My mother even gave me the dreaded, "If I saw this doll before knowing its price, I would've paid $40 for it at the most. Definitely not $600!" And I gave her the usual "HIGH-QUALITY RESIN CUSTOMIZEABLE IT'S A WORK OF ART" response, and we just sort of left it at that.

In the months following, I bought Rem a wig, then shoes, and finally a set of clothes. And all throughout this, I noticed my mother starting to warm up to Rem; she would occasionally comment on how his shoes were cute or that his clothes were nice. She would even play along when I asked her to "babysit" him while I went to the grocery store or something.

Then just last weekend, my mother and I got into a conversation about how everyone first reacted when Rem arrived, and she actually apologized about what she said concerning Rem's supposed $40 worth. She went on to say, "He really is a nice doll. I think I can appreciate him now."

So even if a lot of relatives still don't like the idea of me having such an expensive doll, just knowing that I "converted" one person is good enough. :)

    7. I think Taeyang converted my dad himself.. haha. At first, my family was just neutral with the little 2 foot things standing around. I left Taeyang in the living room a lot which is where my dad usually hangs out. My dad - he's so strict with money, I thought he would never understand my hobby and didn't expect him to.

Well.. he took an interest. I saw him periodically grab Taeyang and examine him close up and then set him down in a new pose. So I just moved in for the kill right there ^^ I started talking about what these dolls were about.. how customizable they are, etc.. He didn't really seem to listen at first but now he stays focused with what I talk about.

Taeyang's his sports buddy now. He watched the Superbowl with Taeyang on his lap the entire time, haha. Taeyang was the one doll I couldn't bond with but it looks like my dad had no problems with it. He calls him his grandson <3

Now to get him to soften up to the existence of Hanseo and Minseo.. he's not very fond of them for some reason ^^

    8. My boyfriend was not thrilled either with the price or the girly look of the boys; my first was a CP Yder, and for a long time at the beginning he didn't really have clothes of his own except for "hand-me-downs" (for lack of a better word - clothes donated by friends so he wouldn't have to sit around naked :P ). BF didn't really care for him.

He softened up when I started with faceups and showed how customizable these dolls can be. But success really hit when my Miyu came home! Suddenly, now that there're two of them, he sees so much more potential in the dolls. Not... quite sure why that changes things, but.

Now, sometimes I'll come into my room and find something like this, and crack up. Now he plays with them. :P

    9. yes, several of my friends were gradually converted. :)

    10. Yes, I blame you for my rising debt Aimee

    12. Well, I don't have my doll yet, but just from obssessivly showing my little sister pictures she has now fallen in love with MNF Shiwoo.

I do have boots for my boy already though and I could've sworn that my mom was more excited for them to get here than I was. I called her at work one day and the first thing she said was "Did your boots get here?" (I was actually calling to tell her where my sister was).

I'm hoping that after he actually gets here the rest of my family will start to like him too. I already know that my cousin's husband wants to see him when he gets here.

    13. I think everyone that talks to me ends up liking them~
      Hahahaha. <3

    14. Well, I've tempted a few of my LJ friends with my doll pics. But so far, none have converted yet.

    15. Before my first arrived, I'd asked my boyfriend (we own a house together) if he'd mind if I built a special shelf in the living room for the dolls to sit on. He said: no shelf, no, no way, no dolls in the living room.

Now there are seven dolls in the living room, and he's making wrought-iron furniture for them himself (he's a blacksmith) - and it was all his idea (I swear!) I'd say he's a convert.

    16. I'm a convert myself, lol. My friend first showed me a picture of one of the DoCs (Wi, maybe?) whom she very much loved at that point of time. At first I was quite freaked out, but the more she spammed me with BJDs, the more I liked them XD

    17. I've already converted one friend with the first BJD I owned. I brought her to an anime club meet to show my friend, and then I brought my friend to a meetup. She then later got one of her own!

I might be on my way to converting yet another friend. I brought her to Dolls and Friends and she was all like "Oh, these ARE really cool!" X3

I love "infecting" people with the BJD disease. :)

    18. I've got my youngest sister into them and she despises dolls. But I showed her the boy I'm getting and then showed her the Luts webpage and the next thing I know she's kicked me off of the computer seat and is comparing which dolls she wants, who she's going to put with who, ect. XD she's already given me the "so... my birthday is in a few months..." speech.

I'm slowly wearing my twin down into getting into them. Even if she won't admit it, she's looking at the dolls when I do. heh.

    19. Not yet, although I'm working on my husband. I think he likes Sophia more than he lets on, though.

    20. I took my two dolls, Sen and Cordelia(D.o.D's Si and Bee-A) to show to a coworker I had told about them. There was much oohing and aahing over them. I also showed them to one of the managers, who it turns out collects dolls. She was fascinated by them. I gave her the DOA website address so she could check out more information of them(she may be here now ^_^) So who have you introduced to the world of bjd?
