1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Converting and introducing people to dolls

Dec 11, 2004

    1. And meep you can vouch! You're one of those people who asked questions!
And you seem so happy with your decision too ^-^
It's wonderful. (and I cant wait to see your doll ^-^ )
But yeah, you get alot of comments about the andrognymity of them, I do sometimes remind people that the majority of them are not moulded to look like full grown men, but despite their height like younger boys and teenagers.
Though even then they can be quite androgynous.
(uit would seem but when you dress some dolls as girls you can really really tell that they're boys ^^;;;; )

And again, I think we're all proud of our dolls in various ways ^_^

    2. *laughs* I hear that. I sent my brother the URLs to the pictures of Wi (so he wouldn't see the price), and being the smart guy he is, he got on that page and he looked at the price. First words about it "Why does it cost so much?"
My mom's reaction was "I think I just fainted from the price!" (And then she offered to 'maybe' get him for me for my b-day.)
My roommate thinks I'm nutters for wanting one (and already looking at accessories for when I finally get him). And the rest of my friends just think they're "creepy looking." No "converting the masses" for me. Although, I'm admittedly one of the converted. :)

    3. Hey, no one should be ashamed of what they paid for something they truly love. It isn't a sin to spend money on something you like and that gives you so much joy.

Please even though these are expensive dolls, they are total works of art and affection. Each and everyone of us saves long, and works hard for our money, and we have the right to spend it however we want.

When we had a public meet at the end of summer, so many people were fasinated by all the beautiful BJD's, but I also think they saw a group of people totally absorbed and having a really fun time together sharing their passion.

    4. Well... Since BJD are SO pricey, it probably *won't* become a 'world wide pheonominon."

However, it WOULD be nice to be able to carry around our 'kids' without getting the "is she legally insane???" looks we get.

Besides, I think that Swords is just informing, not converting. See, she was lucky. People liked her dolly. I'm concerned that when I take Odette out, people will just tease us. Swords is simply stating the cuteness of people being curious. I mean, it's sort of an odd spectical. Most people(Americans, anyhow) consider a doll to either be A) like a porcelean baby doll, or B) Like a Barbie doll(an adult.) They've probably never seen an adult(or even a teenager) wander about carrying around an adult-looking doll...that bends. And is incredibly pretty.

Most of my friends are sorta in the "oh... pretty." Stage. My Friend Amanda's a little more into it. LOL, when I emailed Amanda and her mom pictures of some of the Luts boys, they screamed. Then I told them the price. And her mom went right upstairs and put $50 away from their grochery fund!!! It's hilarious. Amanda is saving for a boy right now... :)

And meanwhile, about someone's comment about it being plastic. Yeah. Duh... we should know better than anyone that they're not alive. I mean, we take their hands and feet off and change their eyes and hair. I've always had feelings for inanimate objects since I was little. Like Food. I would eat an entire doughnut cause I'd feel bad for leaving part of it.

So I suppose yeah, the doll is plastic... But wouldn't it be a little sad if you saw a doll in the trash? I honestly can't stand to see anything with a face in the trash. A while ago I saw a little McDonald's toy figure lying in a parking lot gutter. He was smiling and was discarded into the gutter. It was at my school, and I thought, "Well. He's being missed by some kid, they'll drive back and get it. At the end of the day, he was still there. And it was raining. So I picked him up with a paper towel and when I got home I washed him with soap. Now he sits happily on my Locker Shelf and grins at me. Kinda weird, I guess. But I couldn't see an action figure lying forgotten like that. Who knows why... So it's sad to think of a Doll not being cared for. Sitting in a box gathering dust- or in a shelf, or being thrown away, when someone who really would like to have one is waiting...

      *gets off soapbox*

    5. Hey, you can't wait to see Ichii?
... how do you think I feel?

    6. I think I'm going to go into Aneurisms before Odette even SHIPS. :D

    7. *coughs*

Quite honestly, I'd much rather people buy a doll, not bond and sell it, then have a kid.... can't really sell them. *laughing*

*laughing* I grew up with my British mother talking to inanimate objects, food etc, so I know EXACTLY how you feel.

    8. I've named inanimate objects...

      I have a stapler I call Dorey.

Well, definately rather them sell the doll than their kids. If they think about selling their kids than they shouldn't be a parent!

    9. To my surprise, my mom has been emailing pictures of my dolls to relatives ... espically my Aunt (Father's Sister), who absolutely fell in love with my dolls. And surprisingly, my dad's been pretty interested in them too. He was flipping through the Haute Doll magazine I got before I could even read it.

Although I know they won't be getting the dolls, it's still nice to know that they have an interest in them.

    10. *laughs* Yeah. My roommate actually said that if someone has a daughter that's a little young, and wants a kid, to make the girl buy a dollfie and take care of it!

    11. I love telling people about my dolls when I bring them out :)

I guess it really bothers me when I see another doll person (at a con say) and they are like.. afraid to let me touch it or dont want to answer questions at all. Or are snappy when answering. I DEFINATELY own dolls, i know how to handle them, though I cant' always identify the mold.

I know Zeda was flipping out when I took off her Shirou's headcap to tighten his strings (he was SUPER LOOSE) and she was a bit like a flighty mom, but considering i had four dolls, she figured I knew how to handle them. She whimpered a bit when I stuck the stringer right in him and yanked up his cords.

    12. I'm in the same boat as you. If it's not my parents saying "$300 for a doll? That's just insanity." it's my brothers saying "Whoa, that's a dude doll? Why do they look so queer?"

I tells ya, I get no r'spect 'round here...

    13. Just because boys are pretty doesn't mean they're gay...

I didn't even show my big brother the guys cause I knew he'd say something similar.

    14. Thankfully my parents got used to the idea that I like effiminate-looking boys when I got into Jrock. *laughs*

I think it's cool when people want to see or hold Kuro... I know they're not going to damage him, and he's washable! ^^

When I was a non-owner, I LOVED seeing people who had them. The first one I ever met in person, I remember the girl holding her out "Here, would you like to hold her?" And I was floored. (You're handing a $600+ dollar doll to a person you don't even know?) But it was very cool, and I can understand it now and do the same myself.

I guess there's just too much... banality in the world not to spread a little glamour when you can. ^_~ And these dolls are definitely a very glamourous thing. ^^

    15. :D wow that is so cool, it is nice when other pepole take an interset in our dolls other than saying WTF he/she cost how much are you mad (to which the best replay i have found is well there are worste thing i could spend my money on and it is my money).
mind you me and my sister have the best convert for want of a better word, our mother when my sister got you doll a shiu we wrere looking on the volks site and she saw thoya oh she say he is nice. sorry we go they no longer make him. then we found out volks reissued him and my mum after a bit of soul shering finaly told us how muchs she wanted him. the upshot is she now has her very own doll (paid for on my CC  ) that how much we love her (she has to pay it back but we love her and she say he is the only one she like we all know that phase)
      love rachel

    16. I dunno... If I'm gonna like a guy, he should be pretty to look at.

I've never held a doll like that in my life. I live in Kentucky, the only other person on DOA who lives there I think is the Amazing and Lovely Hitasura.

So I've never come in contact with anyone who has... I will be the converter in Louisville!

    17. Way to stay on topic everyone... XD

    18. *laughs* I live in KY most of the time because of college. The girl who converted me lives in KY too.

    19. Hey, we are so on topic! ^___^ Talking about BJD conversion. I have three girls on my flist (at least) now ordering or saving for their first BJD. ^___^

    20. I have to agree 100%, im 35 and have taken my kids out with me and some people ask, some just stare, (prob think im a nutter lol) and others just walk by (prob also think im a nutter) I have friends in the UK that I have met because of these doll s (UK lot thats u lol) and is brilliant to be able to chat etc, as this is a very unique doll hobby.. lots of people collect dolls, I have Sasha dolls, they sit in plastic boxes, protected, but when I got my first BJD bang.. hooked and in love, and such a different thing, they affect you.. get into your head.... and at this point have to say was thanks to accidently slipping and finding aimees site (hubby prob would not agree lol) which im pleased that I did.

When people ask about them (which is often in material/fabric shops to) I explain and get quite passionate, but do say the good and then explain cost, sanding, expence of acc etc.. some then ask for my site as many links they can follow etc.. other dont... if they ask I believe they really are interested, and as we know they are not easy like Barbie's etc to get.. unless you get via Ebay so most people do look into before buying... so really think that its good to talk and maybe woudnt say convert but let others know.... I have a great shop near me sells Manga and Anime, dolls and figures etc from all makers, and they have asked me to bring in my dolls told them heavy lol, so only bringing 1... and they where really interested... so I agree, if people ask, and want to know... its good.....

      Sorry for going on..... :daisy
