1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Converting and introducing people to dolls

Dec 11, 2004

    1. Come on down to Kaaaain-tuck-ay! We'd love to have Bastian here. x333

Muahaa. My mom just is bemused I think with the fact that I'm sewing a Futon for my doll and say "Darn, it's not very soft." She said to me, "I don't think she'll mind." XD Murrhurr

I think it really comes down to physically seeing the doll and HOLDING it that people like them. :) You can look at them online and such all you want, but it all comes down to a point when you see them for the first time.... :) At least, I hope that's what happens when my mom sees Odette. (She's the one that bought the little one for me!)

    2. I'm not certain I really agree with this. I fell in love and purchased Soo without ever seeing a BJD in person. All I had to go from was photos. My mom maintains her original stance on Soo, which is, "She looks like an alien."

    3. *chuckles* Come on doooown. :B

I'd have to agree with alsma. I don't think holding the doll necessarily has anything to do with it. My roommate held one of kittybox's kids, and she still thinks most of the dolls look freaky and wouldn't buy one. Same with other people I know. It depends on the person and their mindset.

I admit, whenever I get my boy, I hope that holding him makes my mum feel a bit better about him. She's been ok with the rest of my "hobbies" before (anime cons, cosplay, etc.) and I sort of hope that it'll help convert her. (I think she still thinks they're Barbie sized...)

    4. Hah. Soo was one of the few dolls my whole family likes. Mom says she's pretty (which is more than she's said about any of the other girls I've shown her), and Ellen (my little sister), says she's her favorite of all of the dolls I've shown her.

Which means I may stand a chance of getting her. *glee*

    5. Ha! That's so funny because that happens to me! I'm showing pics of Kayde(Isao2) to my family and they make funny faces "That's a boy! He looks like a girl." It gets SO annoying, so now I just tell people before I even hand them the pic that it's a boy. Still get the funny looks though.

I'm planning on taking Kayde to some of the anime viewings they hold on campus. I'm very proud of Kayde and I'm not ashamed to show him off
I probably won't take him out to to many other places cuz he has a white shirt and I don't want to get it dirty. Purhaps I could purchase him a "going out" shirt

    6. I'm not saying purchasing one solely relies on seeing them in person. I mean, I ordered Odette having never seen a BJD in person. But it does help a lotta people to hold them before they can really make a decision. :)

    7. Ok.. we wen't to bairro da liberdade (it is where most of japanise stuff is in São Paulo City!!!) and my family started seach stuff for Choco!!! Mommy said she found chairs and shoes that maybe would fit, sister found clothes... and DAAAAD... didn't find anything 'cause he is not intro this! Mommy said: "It is strange... when they come we just get intro it..."
Sometimes she comes here and I show the new photos at gallery. She doesn't like goth make-ups very much...
Sister also likes the idea..... she just think that sometimes we act liek they are alive and she doesn't like it >.<! But she says it is part of our personality and of fun!
Today we had the 2nd brazilian são paulo meeting...people wanted to see, to touch, to know where to buy, the price...
I like it! It is fun... even sometimes I don't know how react.
So... everyone but dad is intro dolls now... mommy helps me to find stuff and Marina is even liking the idea of a boy comming house. Today she asked me his personality! I got sooo happy!!! ^^
      I'm really lucky I guess...

    8. I was chatting with him online last night. Somehow the subject of dolls came up and I showed him so pictures of the dolls I'm planning on getting eventually. Then I showed him some other pictures and he started looking around the Luts site and I think he fell in love. He spent a lot of the rest of the evening looking at various sites I gave him (including DOA of course!) I feel vaguely guilty for hooking him on such an expensive hobby, but I think it would be great to have a friend who was into them too. I told him if he got one I'd make clothes for it and only charge him the price of fabric. I'm hoping that will be a good incentive. Have you ever hooked people who had absolutely no interest in dolls of any kind before they saw these?

    9. XD My cousin. I also blame Hitasura, I showed my cousin DoA, DOD, and No Gentlemen, and she fell in love in like 20 min :3

    10. I post photos of my G on my LJ. Two of my LJ friends are now contemplating buying a doll. XD

    11. No, but I hear of it a lot, people with no previous love of dolls finding love in them.

And w00t!!! Another boy in the BJD world. I always love hearing about guys joining our cult, err, group.

Tell him to make an account!

    12. My two best friends got hooked after I kept asking if I should get one for myself... One caved in the day after I ordered Rémy, but the other one wants to get a BlueFairy Jerome first, and has to wait until they reopen in June!

    13. I got my friend interested after I recieved my doll earlier this year. It was intensified when I went to my father's on vacation and was able to show her Anika in person. Now she has a three-doll family planned. XD

    14. At first, she just thought the dolls I showed her were cute, since I only showed her the females as they were the only ones that caught my interest. Then I showed her Gigglegeek's site since she was asking how many kinds there were, simply out of friendly curiousity.

So, browsing the Volks thumbnails, she makes me stop.

      "Who's that?"

      "Oh... lemee see... Shiro Tachibana."

      "Oh... my... he's... PRETTY :D "

"Yeaaaah, I guess so. I'm not much for pretty boys."

      "And that one?"

      "Tsukasa."

"A-a pretty asian boy doll named Tsukasa... oh my... he's so... PRETTY! :D "

      "I guess. Prefer dorks/nerds myself."

She just stared at them all starry eyed for awhile. I think she seriously fell in love and was already planning her polygamous wedding to the two Volks boys. A month or so later, we only talked casually about the doll I was buying. But recently, she said she'd been browsing the boards of doll owners (both asian and english-speaking) and was admiring them.

I'm not sure if she's a soon-to-be BJD collector or just an admirer, but she sure loves the pretty boy dolls! She'd eat em' up with a spoon if they were EflDoll sized!

    15. *lol* I'm happily guilty of this! :blush

It's almost all we talk about (Almost!) He's even qustioned about getting his own BJD Boy's.

    16. hehe

I'm very happily guilty of this!!!!!!!! I love sharing about my dollies and infecting people! :( bad me! hehe

    17. My sister collects Bratz (so do I) so she liked dolls to begin with, and she loved Dream of Dolls when we first discovered them, but when she saw the prices, she said No. She wouldn't buy any. (Although I was already saving my pennies.)

After months, and me talking about them constantly, showing her the ones I want, she's changed her mind and decided that she'd like to have a couple too. :D

I'm mostly happy about having someone to share the hobby with. I'd be happy to do it by myself, but I'm ecstatic to have someone to be crazy with.

    18. I'm working on my boyfriend...*evil laughter* He likes heath...damn him liking one of the more expensive ones! (means I can't buy it for him :() I didn't even do anything though...at first ^_^.

    19. I randomly hooked one of my LJ friends into them when I got Kelyn. :D She saw pictures of him and begged to know what kind of doll he was and where I'd gotten him. I sent her to a few sites, and she now adores BJD although I'm certain she has no plans to get one. :) She thinks they're beautiful. ^^

    20. X3 I am DETERMINED to eventually buy a Lishe and customize her into a little sex goddess for my boyfriend, more like a sexy action figure than a doll. That'd make his day; everytime he sees a Lishe he stops to admire her beauty, her sculpting, and... well... her boobs.
