And to start us off, here my Mantis doll Moxy showing off her new wig and eyes- Picture link Seems 6-7" wigs fit the mantis head (this wig is from Leekeworld). I ended up getting some anime eyes from Nina's Craftery Service on Etsy as I wanted something softer looking than the standard round glass/acyclic eyes. (These were 'basic 3' style, 14mm full resin, in purple). I'm really impressed with the quality of the eyes so will definitely be buying more in the future!
woah I love their mantis body so much! everytime I see it I like it more haha I really hope I can snag a red resin Amber if I can find them on the second market, or if coral reef decide to open orders again~ Moxy is so cute, I think the wig fits really well! I'm somewhat surprised to see that the 14mm eyes fit so well, I thought that maybe they would need 12mm since their eyes seem a bit smaller than standard ~45cm dolls it also looks like coral reef's bodies are all quite thin, I've seen that they they can wear ~30cm clothing (dresses that fit their torsos basically
For standard eyes you would be looking at 12mm (or 10mm depending on the brand size). A 14mm glass eye fills up most of the eye which can be good aesthetic choice if you wanted a softer or more insect look. Because the anime style eye is more of an oval shape it doesn't fill out the eye quite as much I haven't tried to dress my doll yet so good to know that some 30cm clothes could work! I will most likely have to make her armour and her dancing outfit so I think that'll be the thing that takes me a while to get round to doing (not good or fast at making doll costumes)
@Epicari she's gorgeous!! Congrats on her arrival. I'm so glad this company is on-topic now! I'll throw a photo of my Amber in here too. Here's some eyes I made for mine as well:
Did anyone see the IG post from Coralreef with the new Cyborg girl? She's divine! I wonder, if the price tag will be just as divine Sales should start tomorrow on 18th January.
Yes she looks so cool! I'm so curious what options will be available for her. That chromed resin looked amazing!
Coral Reef Doll on Instagram: "My dear,Long time no see!this is our new doll ,mechanical girl number one! #bjd #bjds #bjddoll #bjdsale #bjdphotography #bjddolls #bjdphoto #bjdmakeup #bjdmaking #bjdsculpting #abjd #bjdforsale #bjdgirl #bjdartist #bolljointeddoll #artist #artwork" I'm also struck by the photos! Especially the abandoned wreckage look - I may have to crib that for a potential face up. I swore off new dolls this year but she is striking!!
Their sales pages with pictures are up now Look at that poseability! ONE type A ONE type B COMING SOON: Coral Reef Doll Machina ONE
The new sculpt is so beautiful!!! I'm so weak to designs with extra limbs and they really nailed the look! it's awesome that their sale period is so long, I might be able to bring her home
Thanks for the links Diaspro. Type A looks really cool. I have checked on the webpage to find the measurements of this doll but unfortunately I could not find it. Does anyone know where I could get this information? Thank you
BJDivas has the doll dimensions; it's one of the images closer to the bottom of the page. The image should be self explanatory. Translation of the dimensions in the top right corner... - Head circumference: 17.7cm - Neck circumference: 6.2cm - Shoulder width including arms: 8.5cm - Height of body without head: 49.5cm
Oh wow, those eyes turned out so good! I was wondering how hard it might be to find eyes small enough for the upper eyes so making them yourself was a good option
Yes, it was definitely a trial and error process to find just the right fit and size. I had to just try a bunch of blanks in each eyewell set to see what fit. Here's the sizes I made: Upper set: 10mm - small iris Lower set: 14mm - small iris
