1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Could you ever have just ONE BJD?

Dec 28, 2008

    1. It's not cheating :) It depends, some people feel like the more dolls the merrier, other people prefer to have only one doll and spoil them rotten. You can always take the plunge and make up your mind when Angel Elf Soo arrives?

    2. Since I love my first doll Shima to pieces... I always feel like cheating on my other dolls! I think, having more than one doll is ok. Your doll will have a friend and isn't alone anymore when you're not at home! :) If you don't feel comfortable with a second doll you can still sell her.

And yes, I think, they have some similarities but definitely don't look the same :)

    3. It's not 'cheating' at all! Really, in a lot of ways it's just like a parent having a second child, or a pet owner getting a new pet. It doesn't mean you love the first any less, just that you're ready to love another as much as you do the first!

And no, the girls don't look the same...they have different eye, nose, and mouth shapes. They're both really pretty, and really cute!

    4. I always knew I would have a few. I am confused by people who want only one or think it is unfair to have more than one... they are dolls. It is a hobby. How much fun would a model car collector have with one car?

    5. It's so much more fun for me having more than one! My second came exactly one month after my first, my third (head only, until April probably) arrived just less than a month after the second, and my fourth is on the way right now, a bit less than a month after the third. That's going to have to be it for a while due to financial reasons, the next one after this will be a MNF Shushu (my first girl) and since I probably won't find her secondhand she'll have to be ordered and take a while to get here.

My wishlist has expanded a lot, I now have nine on the "want" list for after my girl. I know I won't be able to get those any time soon, but they have characters and stories waiting for them already.

I can't imagine having just one.

    6. Let's just say that I failed at it. I do think it's more fun when they can "interact" together! But really, it's just that each mold has its own charm... And it's hard to ignore all the ones you really like! Sigh.

I suppose you could have just one, but it would take a lot of self control! Or so I think.

    7. at first I was like I can just live with one then since I got Luna I wanted another and Looked around for her brother....I found on I want but he costs $500 and I am broke right now.

    8. I haven't even gotten my first girl yet (waiting is killing me and it's only been a few days since I ordered her) and I'm thinking that one may not be enough. I've already seen a couple of boys that have got my imagination running wild with their possible characters. I'm doomed.

    9. i love my doll, sidi. i want another doll, but not so that i can have two dolls, i want another one so that sidi can have a friend. i kind of feel bad for hir when i go to school and leave hir all alone, i think i'd feel better if there was another doll so that sie'd have company.

    10. I don't think I could ever choose just one.
I knew this from the start, after stalking DoA for so long before getting my first, I learned from other owners how addicting this hobby was.
Not to mention I already had a whole ton of character ideas in my head for the dolls I wanted to buy next.
Although I'm glad I didn't have the funds at the time, because my ideas and preferences have totally changed.
As for choosing just one, well, currently, Adrien my H.Ducan is the only one with a faceup, so I haven't been able to bond with my T.Lahoo or T.Elf Sha.
Adrien was my first though so, I would probably choose him right now if I had too, but of course it's subject to change in the future.

    11. Altering on what I said before. I might actually be content with just Sera. She doesn't seem to want to share me with another doll. Which is sorta understandable, as she likes material things, and if I had another doll she wouldn't get as many clothes.
I think it's definitly possible to have just one doll. It all depends on the doll.

    12. Nope, I'm starting to wonder if I could ever own just 10 dolls D:

    13. My first doll hasn't even arrived yet, and I have already planned the second :sweat I always knew I'd want a pair so they wouldn't get lonely

    14. I told my parents that I'd only get one (to start with) But I knew there would always be more! :) I don't know if I could handle more than 10 dolls though... I'd feel bad because I couldn't give everyone the attention they deserve! (also I'd probably run out of space!) I was a little worried that once I got my 2nd doll that she'd steal all of my attention and my poor Puki would be abandoned, and loveless! Turns out that since I got my LTF I've made more clothes for my Puki! :sweat
It's so much more fun to have more than one! :) But if I had to choose only one... Ahhhh! That choice is too hard... I love them both! >_< Maybe Adell because she was my first...

    15. Well, owning just one was the original plan. I said it to make myself feel better about them being so expensive. Of course now I have three, then have plans for three more. And, since I'm a freak and need them to be an "odd" number, I guess I have room for another...three.

    16. So many valid points!

My problem is that everyone knows how much Vyolet cost me. Makes no difference to me, them knowing. It's my money and I quit smoking to save up for her. The added bonus being once I had her and could afford ciggies again I wouldn't be able to smoke around her. It's worked so well. I was so distracted by her I didn't realize that 4 months slipped by without one sngle ciggie! Yay me!

While I don't have to justify my expenses I have a second income that my family does not know about. All above board, nothing illegal and its declared to the tax bast-... excuse me, tax department. Money being as tight as it is these days the sudden apperance of a second doll will put them straight on my back and I have enough riding back there.

I am swinging back and forth a lot and I have the opportunity to buy her via a group order so my time is limited when it comes to saying yes or no.

Would it be unethical if instead of telling the "truth" to those who will bug me incessently if I told a porky pie (white lie) and said that I bought her new but second hand from someone who changed their mind, thereby making her a great bargin?

I have also toyed with the idea that I "won" her in a Dolly raffle of some kind.

The bigger issue being, if I did tell a white lie would it impact on my relationship with my new doll?

    17. I don't see why it would impact the relationship. :? Maybe if her character was a really strict by-the-book type of girl perhaps. You could even play into it in a positive manner and have it be "our little secret ;)".

Anyway, back on topic. Don't think I could give up any girl now. I have too much character invested in them that they wouldn't ever never forgive me if I tried to get rid of any of them! (Well, as individuals anyway. One of the "cute" dynamics is that my girls don't really get along as a whole. )

Me: I'm going to sell one of you. Who should it be?
      Them: NO! Nobody! :x *slap*

The only time I think I could sell a doll is if she was still new and never opened. I'd be too invested any other way. That's probably why I resist growing the family and instead go off into accessories and clothes. I could easily sell off those types of things rather than any of my girls.

    18. Oh gosh... I used to be convinced that having ONLY ONE DOLL would make me feel fulfilled, and that I could buy plenty of clothing/accessories for that one doll and therefore not need another. Now I have two more. Granted, one I went in on with another friend and another was a gift -- but still. I couldn't picture NOT having them. If I had to choose, though, I'd say that Sybelle (my DoD Leya) would be the doll I'd keep. She was the doll I actually saved up for and paid for with my own money, so she holds a special place in my heart. She was also my very first doll.

    19. I'll probably have just one doll for a very long time, and I don't think that'll be such a problem. It'll certainly be easier to spoil just one, and less hard on my wallet... n_n; It seems fine to me either way, just a matter of preference. I might get another eventually. (Famous last words, I imagine.)

    20. I got my first, (DollZone Shoyo) some time in January '08 I was very happy and was pleased to have her. I did think about ordering her a friend but I didn't get around to it until November '08. Now that I have two in my home and another one ordered, it seems like I'll be ordering more and more. :sweat
