1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Could you ever have just ONE BJD?

Dec 28, 2008

    1. Simple and short: No.

      Detailed and Long:
I haven't had my own dolls for very long, a short 4 months since I got my first one. However I have wanted one since I first saw one around 5 or 6 years ago. I knew when I started really looking at a bunch of companies and different dolls I couldn't JUST have one, they'd be lonely. This cemented when I started making a want list(which is outdated and needs to be updated) and then a must have list(also changed).

So, yeah, at the very beginning, i.e. the first week I knew about dolls, I just wanted an Elf Ducan and thought I would be fine to just have him. I then found DoD's site. That dream of just one BJD crashed and burned and turned to ash then burned again and drowned then blew up. So, yep, I would always like to have at least 2 dolls at one time.

If you could only possess one of your dolls, could you choose?
Ouch, guh, I don't know... I cant decide!!!
And what would be your reasons? Size would be a pretty big reason, I would like cuddler, like my mds's but I also like the extremely easy traveling with my tiny... Sentimental is another huge reason. The one I would choose depends on who I'm bonding with at the time(Currently bonding with my tiny who sits on my laptop).

    2. I wish I could be satisfied with only one bjd. Sadly though, I have an insatiable appetite for collecting and the more I see the more I want. My wallet can't keep up with me and therefore, my credit card is smokin'...lol!:...(

    3. I'd have to have a least a few. I likely could live without most of my crew but I'd have to have a few. Maybe 6-8. I like even numbers.

    4. I don't have my first doll at home yet, but I have the thought in my head that he will be an only child....I've heard from most people that this is virtually impossible once you've been bitten by the bjd bug lol

My bjd will "sort of" be replacing (not that he could ever really be replaced) another doll I had which was stolen. He wasn't a bjd, but he was still a wonderful doll. He was gift from a friend in another country and it would have been very hard to obtain a like companion for him even if I wanted one, but I was quite happy with just him and hoping the same will be true with just one bjd. My other doll was light in weight, but very tall (like 2.5 feet or so) and could be a bear to lug around all by himself so I couldn't imagine trying to do it with two. He was my fearless travel buddy and got dragged all sorts of crazy places and the same fate awaits my bjd, so for his intended purpose I think one doll will be plenty.

    5. Oh goodness, Dances! I wish you the best of luck in getting that special doll. ^^ It's sad that someone would steal the doll your friend gave you. :/ Jerks.

As for the main point of this thread. I actually am planning to just have two. Keyword there is planning. XD I want a boy and a girl. I remember when I first decided to be a bjd owner that I would get dolls that represented characters of mine. But now that I've graduated from college and have an animation degree...xD I'll be around different characters all the time and always have creative juices going. So, I have something else in mind now. :]

    6. I sure thought I would only have one, especially because I'm only a freelance artist and happened to find my dream doll for sale second hand by pure luck and beyond affordable.

I bought one of my boys as a body donor for the other (because he was also extremely cheap simply because the owner couldn't bond) and planned on using his head for faceups or to sell it. "The donor" arrived first and after spending some time talking to his previous owner, I grew quite attached to him and even kept his name, which is how I got Iris, my Kizdoll Vince.

As it turns out, he's not even a resin match for the Kizdoll elf Saiy head that I bought anyway! I found out long after I bought him that he's limited white skin, so that really worked out for Iris. (as usual, because he brings luck only to himself.)

I'm already on the prowl for a Doll Chateau Faramita for a pet for the boy I'm waiting on, and another doll for a modifying project I have in mind.

...Damn things are like potato chips. Reeeaaaally expensive potato chips. XD

    7. LOL No way!!!

Amir was supposed to be my only one, especially since I was newly married, looking to buy a house and working part-time at just barely above minimum wage and even at $175 (he was an AoD Chen) , that was outrageous for me to spend on such a frivolous thing......buuuuuuut...things change. I got promoted, he switched jobs, things got easier on us. And Amir was lonely. So...JUST two. Amir and Loki. no more. Ummmm....SOMEHOW, over 4 and a half years, that managed to expand not only to partners, kids, and relatives, but also to pretty much an entire social network. Friends, coworkers, bandmates, neighbors, pets....

Lesson here? Amir gets whatever he wants. lol

    8. I told myself that I would just have one doll. I bought Iplehouse Tatiana. I didn't look at other dolls online or attempt to buy another doll. But then I went to Animazement that next May. I bought Resinsoul Yao from a dealer. I purposely didn't look at dolls online because I was worried I'd want another doll. But several months later one of my friends was looking for her second doll online and got me looking. I bought Dream of Doll Petsha. I told myself that I would wait at least one year before getting another doll. She arrived in February and I bought my next doll at Animazement that May. He's Impldoll Teno on a normal boy body. I told myself that I wouldn't buy another doll until I graduate from college. But when my friend got her second doll recently, an SD, it got me looking at SDs. I found a doll that I love but told myself I'd wait to get him. But there was an event... If I purchased him I'd get a free 29 cm doll. So I bought DollZone Memphis with a free DollZone GuoGuo. They'll be here later this month. I've told myself that I won't buy another doll until I graduate but well see how that goes, ha!

I don't think I could pick just one to keep. I love all of my dolls for different reasons so I couldn't pick between them.

    9. I never planned to have only one, but I never planned to have as many as I currently do, either! I don't think it would be nearly as fun, for me, to have only one. A lot of the joy that I get from my dolls comes from building them families and networks of friends, and posing them together. I think if I considered my dolls to be more like my children, then maybe I could be satisfied with one, but I just think of them as quirky little characters that it's fun to play God with.

    10. I tried. I really did. I tried! And failed. I got Zane, my little science nerd/genius. That was all. He was cute, he was fun, he... wanted his older brother, Quinn. OK, fine. Two. That's all. Zane and Quinn. Quinn is a music savant and in a band. Wonderful. ...... Oh look, Quinn needs his bandmates.... and their friends... and relatives... and... and... and.... yeahhhhhh............. >.>

    11. lol, before i bought the first one i was already planning for the second one hahahaha! no, it woudn't be fun just to have one, it feels lonely, she needs company :) however i don't want a whole batallion either, i wouldn't know what todo with so many and would probaly get bored of some if i can't give attention to all !!! XD

    12. No I couldn't only have one, when I collect something I'm over enthusiastic. For example in the space of four months since I started collecting I have acquired nine dolls and I'm expecting another two to arrive this week. I also have two on order which will hopefully arrive in Oct/Nov and another one being bought me for christmas. Credit card is in the freezer!

    13. I could totally only have this one for the rest of my life...this hobby is so expensive hahahaha. Plus I adore my dolls sculpt more than any other, besides the Zaoll's Ramie...I would probably make an exception for her...but only if I had stacks of money. I really want to go trough another box opening though ):

    14. i do only just have one LOL
but i am on my way getting the second xD

even after i told myself ONE !! ONE MONA !!
      ya right lol
      :aheartbea

    15. No never, wish I could, but I enjoy them all so much.

    16. I... Already replied to this. *erases and crawls into a hole* Sometimes because of my health and insomnia, I forget I already talked about things, and now I see I repeated myself quite a lot on this forum. Sorry, guys...

Still, it sounds like by reading other responses that I'm in good company. The dolls always win. XD; It sometimes feels like they don't want to be lonely, especially knowing you can't just carry them around all day. If I'm hanging out with my family, Iris hangs out too, but he sits alone while we do our things. It's nice knowing he will have a friend his size, ha ha.

    17. I am very happy with the one doll that I have now, but I am excited to save up the money to get her a sister in a few months. :)

    18. I don't think I'm satisfied with just one, but I could probably stop at two -- a boy and a girl.

However, if I could find the exact right sculpts, I would get two boys (for a total of 3 dolls) because I have two characters that I would love to have. The chance of finding the perfect two heads is pretty small, so I'll probably just get a boy I really like and stop there.

    19. I finally have my first BJD after loving from afar for years. She is an amazing beauty at 66cm, 2nd hand due to not getting enough attention from loving privious owner. Now that finances allow I can start up my collection and give her an awesome BJD family :aheartbea

    20. Know I can never have just one of any thing. If I can help it.
