1. It has come to the attention of forum staff that Dollshe Craft has ceased communications with dealers and customers, has failed to provide promised refunds for the excessive waits, and now has wait times surpassing 5 years in some cases. Forum staff are also concerned as there are claims being put forth that Dollshe plans to close down their doll making company. Due to the instability of the company, the lack of communication, the lack of promised refunds, and the wait times now surpassing 5 years, we strongly urge members to research the current state of this company very carefully and thoroughly before deciding to place an order. For more information please see the Dollshe waiting room. Do not assume this cannot happen to you or that your order will be different.

Darker Skin Tones?

Nov 29, 2005

    1. She still is, I think about 17 hours left.

    2. is it strange that I don't particually care if my dolls don't look like me? maybe because I don't look like most of my faimly. >.>

(I live in a dorm with alot of girls from asia. one's mom came over to visit and during a conversation actully told me "you so light skin, you get husband easy. stay out of sun.")

    3. Just keep in mind Tan Lishe and other tan CP dolls might be hard to find, but good luck getting one! ^^

    4. Is there such a thing? I have only ever seen varying shades of white!

    5. You might want to check out Ipplehouse, they do some lovely very dark skinned dolls.

    6. Aaron by Iplehouse is a gorgeous black boy.

I knew from the title you were English so I just had to post in this thread XD

Black dolls are pretty rare....And the Iplehouse ones I find a bit...'token'. Maybe I'm just being oversensitive though.

    7. Thanks beans!

    8. I just received my CP/Luts minifee Soo -- the most stunningly gorgeous milk chocolate shade I ever saw! Worth a look if you like mini-sized dolls.

    9. Iplehouse has Aaron and Cocori, who are black. Elfdoll has Ruru, who i think looks like a scrabled egg from Latin America. And I think the 'tan' versions of Dream of Doll's Shall (and Camine and Lahoo) and Dollzone's Cherry look really good. (and by good, i mean they look Hispanic/Latina) Dollzone's doing all of their dolls in tan, but I've only seen pictures of a few, so they bear further investigation.

Babytarragon: I don't think it's tokenism, I think they heard people say 'hey, why isn't there more variety in 'realistic' faces?' and they're really just the first company to act on it.

completely off topic: you know they're making a movie of it! (your username)

    10. There has only been an expressed interest in dolls of all colors with the growing popularity of BJDs in the US. It can take a while for companies to catch up with our interests.

The resin itself that our dolls are made of is what we call "normal" skin tone and needs no extra coloring process, "white" is easy because it's essentially like bleaching out the "normal" tone. You also have to remember that making dolls with darker resin tones is a much more difficult process and somewhat more time consuming and expensive. Dollshe says they have to scrap 9 tan dolls they make before before they get one with even coloring.

    11. want a cocori so bad.... *laughs* Any how, I don't think it's tokenism, so much as yes, the dark resin is harder to do, and no one really thought of it... but maybe this is a good sign? That there will be more in the future?

    12. I'd like to clarify -- it's more accurate to think of the resin itself as a blank white to which pigment is added. There is no bleaching process.

The major point again being, though, that the darker the skintone the more difficult it is to get the right color and get it perfectly even.

Still, this should be a challenge! I'd love to see more skintone variety :)

    13. "afro" is not a proper term to describe African Americans or anyone with African descent. It's a hair style.

I'm not going to make a big deal about it, but I'm black and I find it offense.

    14. You can't change what's in the dictionary, though. :P

      @Lyra_Daemon: Cocori is a nice dark-skinned doll. I really like her. :)

    15. CHISA.TO: I apologise, that's just the term I have heard most commonly used in Britian (it is even on "declare your nationality" bits of forms here).

Lissmiss: I know!! and Daniel Craig is in it *drools*

Cocori is totally babelish... she's on my list

    16. Afro is not a term in itself. Afro-carribean is like judeo-christian. The o is added to link the two words.

    17. Not everyone here is American. Not every black person is of African descent either. o_O

    18. I know that not everyone here is American. I don't think the eyeroll was completely necessary either as when someone said they dislike the word "oriental" people stopped saying it without a hitch. I don't want to turn this into a history class but by saying its offensive to some I shouldn't get someone rolling their eyes at me.
